Week 13

Thursday game starts the week off…please keep your yawns stifled. Odds provided by bodog.net for entertainment and comparison purposes only. But really if you’re betting on this game, you need some help.

Thursday December 1

Eagles (4-7) @ Seahawks (4-7)

Century Link Field, Seattle 8:20 (NFLN)

Favorite Eagles by 3

Last Week Eagles lost to Patriots 38-20, Seahawks lost to Redskins 23-17

Fast Fact Despite on gaining 31 yards on 10 carries last week Eagles RB LeSean McCoy leads the NFL in rushing.

These two teams were playoff teams last year, seriously! Both teams are lurching this year toward unremarkable finishes as the injury bug has bitten rather hard. With Michael Vick la no-go for the third straight week, Vince Young continues what is tantamount to an extended audition for his services elsewhere. The supposed vaunted “dream team” defense got shredded by Tom Brady and the Pats last week to no one’s surprise. Meanwhile the Seahawks seem to find a way to self destruct more often than not as their offense went into hibernation last and their defense let Rex Grossman rally the Redskins from 10 down in the 4th. The now oft-maligned Eagles defense should find the sledding a bit easier against the pedestrian Seahawks offense. Despite being down a number of playmakers on both sides of the ball should be able to lean on the dynamic rushing talents of LeSean McCoy and eke out a win.

Happy Holiday season and your fill dumb commercials and news stories interrupting your sports. The clapper and Chia Pets have made their return and honestly if I hear that Lexus song one more time I’ll scream. Who in this economy can afford one . Would anybody buy one without the input of your spouse? Seriously, now that I have that lil rant out of the way.

It’s sounds like Bobby V will be banning fried chicken and beer from the Red Sox clubhouse as he attempts to kick ass or will kick his ass kicked from Larry Luciano.

I’m not sure if I like the hiring of Bobby Valentine or not. I have mixed reaction and I’m kind of in that wait and see mood. I do think he will give the Boston media a lot to talk about and I also think he get in some faces . But I also think today’s players tend to turn off in your face managers. I think Pedroia and Youklis will both do well under Valentine. I’m just not sure about the rest of them. Then again Pedroia and Youklis are cut from the same cloth and that may not be a good mix the whole it takes on to know one.

I do know that if what is said is correct Valentine tends to pick on a team leader type. I’m guessing David Ortiz if he is still around. I’m guessing he maybe leaving dodge. I haven’t been the biggest Ortiz fan over the past couple of years . I think he is a whiner at the plate. I think he takes the first offer that’s better than what the Red sox are offering.

For now I’m in a wait and see mode for the Sox just to see where they are going. I have a feeling if Valentine isn’t successful John Henry blows it up like he did with the Marlins and won’t be spending wildly anymore.,

Have ever turned off game because the announcer was making you nuts. I haven’t in a long time. I started to watch the Iowa  and Clemson game the color analyst if they still call them that was just annoying the shit out of me. Every time Iowa had the ball he would say they have to get it to this guy and he just wouldn’t let up. Simple fix though there was 12 other games on the ESPN network I just switched to another game not caring about either team.

I rarely watch the pregame show to any thng but I caught a little of the MNF pregame and the feature they do  C’mon Man. I was entertained it was better than the game it self. Then again I really didn’t need to see the Chargers Kicker taking a leak in a cup on the sidelines but the crew on the set just lost it after that footage. Chris carter couldn’t even speak. Then agin the game sucked anyway so much for a must win for the Giants.

It’s been a crazy week at the old Lanz household out of town guests for Thanksgiving. The Lanz twins turned 12. It’s the High School Football playoffs and I was called to do a few chain crews . (They usually use 10 officials for those games 5 on the field, 4 on the chains, and a clock operator. ) It’s fun night doubleheaders at each site. You go because it’s fun and a little goodwill goes along way with assignors for the following season.

Our towns High School Football team is going to the Championship Game for their division on Saturday. They will be playing a team from Cape Cod. They won their playoff game after struggling the whole game .and trailing 6-0 from the oppositions opening drive. They where helped out by a missed extra point and a missed Field Goal. They drove down with under 2 minutes scored to make it 7-6 and then the other team was driving and they came up with a big interception to win it.

What do you do with 13 12 year olds on a week day with half day of school. As I mentioned earlier the Lanz twins turned 12. They didn’t know if they wanted to have a party or just have a few buddies over or what.

My wife found this rolling video game guy. She convinced the guy to come down from New Hampshire. (which is 20 minutes up I93 from here)He shows up with this landscaping enclosed type trailer. The kind you could actually transport a couple of cars in. The thing looks like a Limo inside with grey carpeting and walls and lighting. He has a bench that 16 kids can set and play video games( all these kids are athletic and competitive). He has 4  36 inch flat screens hooked up with a couple of Xboxes and and a couple of PS3’s and the ability to link all the TV’s so all 16 kids can play the same game together. He also had surround sound . They had a blast the guy was saying 12 year olds are the best party’s because they play.

These guys don’t live by video games alone. They ended up having a Knee Hockey tournament and a huge tag football game . reminded me of the tag football we played when we were kids.. t was a fun day had by all.

Busy day in Jacksonville, let’s get ready to rumble, who needs the NCAA or BCS. All this, and more in this weeks edition of

Does anyone really know their friends anymore?? Here is a man, Bernie Fine, who has been accused by 3 people of being molested; then you have a man, Jim Boeheim, who has know Bernie for over 40 years sticking up for him because of the friendship they have secured over the years. It just goes to show that no matter how long you may know someone, you really never know them.

What about Bernie’s wife? Did you hear/or read the transcript of the taped conversation between Bobbie Davis and Laurie Fine? What is not being mentioned is that in a brief interview Feb. 10, 2003, Laurie Fine acknowledged she had the conversation with Davis, confirmed portions of the tape were accurate, but suggested Davis had created a phony tape.

What would you do if your Bernie?

Urban Meyer is now the head coach of Ohio State after spending a year away from college football. He left a very high profile, high stress job with the Florida Gators. He left the Gators citing medical/health concerns, stress and being with the family. Now he is going into the fire cooker by going to Ohio State. He must have made a remarkable turnaround.

I like to think he left the Gators because he didn’t want to tarnish his won/loss percentage which was starting to take a hit in the 2010 season, when Florida went 8-5 with an un-Meyer like .615. He also knew what he had going into the 2011 season as evidence by the Gators 6-6 record.

CFL legions Joe Kapp (on the left of the video) and Angelo Mosca get into a fight on stage at the 2011 CFL Alumni Legends Luncheon in Vancouver. It appears there is still some Bad blood between these two after a controversial hit on the field nearly 48 years ago. Joe was attempting to make piece with Mosca when all hell broke loose. Joe Kapp was a former B.C. Lions quarterback and Angelo Mosca was a Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive linemen in the game.

The bad blood between Kapp and Mosca goes back 48 years from Hamilton's 21-10 win over B.C. in the 1963 Grey Cup. In that game, Mosca delivered a controversial hit on Lions running back Willie Fleming, knocking Fleming out of the game.

Does the NCAA have any control over their teams or the BCS? The NCAA should be the “clearing house” for all movement to another conference. If a team wants to move to another conference they submit it to the NCAA for approval and they will decide when it is to happen.

Make all conferences eligible for the BCS or Championship game.

As for the BCS, its okay for the computers and humans to come up with the polls, but I am getting sick and tired of teams who are undefeated not getting their fair shot at the National Title. I don’t care if they don’t have an automatic bid, that was done to prevent non-power conferences from having a legitimate shot at a title.

Today was the second most historic day in Jacksonville Jaguar, the first being Jacksonville selected as an NFL city. But today was a grab bag of items for the 30th team in the NFL.

General Manager Gene Smith was signed to a 3-year contract extension.

Coach Jack Del Rio was fired Tuesday. Everyone expected Del Rio to be let go at the end of the season. Defensive Coordinator, Mel Tucker will take over the Jaguars. Del Rio coached 9 seasons and had a 68-71 record. Jacksonville hasn’t been in the playoffs since 2007. Jack is only the 2nd coach in Jaguar history. He replaced Tom Coughlin who coached 8 years and was 68-60. Del Rio never was able to take the team to the “next level’ as the owner of the Jaguars Wayne Weaver said Del Rio would do.

Speaking of Wayne Weaver, he announced that the Jaguars were sold to Shahid Kahn, an Illinois businessman. The 77-year-old Weaver had been looking for an "exit strategy" for years, wanting to find someone to buy the team and keep it in Jacksonville. He had tears in his eyes several times as he announced his impending departure. "It's the right thing at the right time and for the right reasons," Weaver said. Forbes reported the sale to be worth $760 million. Kahn, born in Pakistan, left home at age 16 to attend the University of Illinois. He graduated in 1971, a year after he started working for Flex-N-Gate Corp. in Urbana, Ill. He purchased the company in 1980. Today, Flex-N-Gate is a major manufacturer of bumper systems for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles built in North America.

The stupidest commercial on television, the past two months has got to be Nike’s “Basketball Never Stops.” Did Nike forget there was a NBA stoppage??

Some people go out of their way to propose. Listen to what the band leader says at the end.

A trumpet player (Eric Meunier) proposes to his girlfriend of 7 years (Ashley Chalmers) in front of thousands of people at the famed University of Wisconsin-Madison Varsity Band Concert in the Kohl Center.

Til Next Time
