National Football League

Dear NFL Fans:

The letter below was distributed today to all current and former NFL players, as well as team and league personnel. We will continue to update you on important league initiatives.

To All NFL Personnel:

There is no higher priority for the National Football League than the health and wellness of our players. It is for this reason that we are launching NFL Total Wellness, a comprehensive new initiative for current and former NFL players, as well as league and team personnel. Its mission is to build on our programs and services that enhance the physical and mental health of our people.

NFL Total Wellness will empower players to make positive health decisions; promote help-seeking behaviors in connection with behavioral and mental health issues; provide education on family safety; and enhance transition programs that help players adjust to new stages of life.

Dr. David Satcher, former Surgeon General of the United States and current director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine, will advise NFL Total Wellness. Dr. Satcher has already conducted 14 mental health forums over the past two years for former NFL players and their families. He will expand his role to facilitate more wellness events across the country. He also will provide online webinars on www.nflplayerengagement.com and consult with the NFL on its health programs and services.

Leading the NFL Total Wellness initiative will be NFL executives Robert Gulliver and Troy Vincent. Gulliver, the NFL’s Chief Human Resources Officer, joined the league in 2010, having previously held senior HR leadership roles at Wells Fargo & Company. Vincent, the vice president of NFL Player Engagement, is a five-time Pro Bowl cornerback and former president of the NFL Players Association (2004-2008).

Members of our NFL family are not immune to the challenges that all individuals face.

One new service, NFL Life Line, launches today as part of our support system. NFL Life Line is a free, independent and confidential phone consultation service and website available to all members of the NFL family, including current and former players, coaches, team and league staff, and their family members. This type of employee assistance service is considered a model for companies across all sectors.

The NFL Life Line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. All calls will be strictly confidential and not shared with the league office, teams, or any related entity. To find out more, visitwww.NFLLifeLine.org

As we enter what promises to be a very exciting 2012 season, we stand by our commitment to the total wellness of our players and former players.

Sincerely,

Roger Goodell

Australian hurdler, Michelle Jenneke...Watch the whole video...She's hot...She has a nice warm up routine...Oh, and she runs the hurdles pretty damn well too...

I could care less about the Olympics, but I'll check the guide to see when the Women's Hurdles is on...

Well before I get to how the NCAA came down on Penn State, I have to get to this...It was announced this afternoon/evening that my New York Rangers, finally got a deal done with the Columbus Bluejackets, for star winger, 28 year old, Rick Nash...Even better, is what the Rangers gave up for Nash...The Rangers sent forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Aretm Anisimov, and defenseman Tim Erixon, along with a 2013 first-round draft pick...Besides getting Nash, who has 6 seasons left on his contract, the Rangers get defenseman Steve Delisle, and a conditional 2013 third-round draft pick...

Dubinsky was one of the key guys in the locker room, and while his offensive numbers dipped last season, his toughness, willingness to drop the gloves, and defensive play were very important to the Rangers success...His contract size pretty much made him expendable...Columbus fans will love him, on and off the ice, just as they did Nash...Anisimov is a good player, but hasn't yet reached his full potential...Erixon had a cup of coffee in the NHL last year, and should make the Jackets roster this season...Lots of upside in his game...

As the talks have gone on for months, names like Kreider, Stepan, and Del Zotto kept coming up...No way did I want the Rangers to move Kreider and Stepan...As much as IO love Nash, I didn't want to lose those guys...DZ okay, but those other two kids, give the team so much extra jump...Stepan has already shown the ability to be an excellent two-way player, and the spark Kreider gave the team in the playoffs, made it clear that this kid is one of the key building blocks...

Adding Nash's offensive skills is huge, especially since Marian Gaborik will be out for the beginning of the season recovering from a shoulder injury...Nash's work ethic, and professionalism will fit right in with the Rangers and what coach John Tortorella has been doing there...I'm very happy with deal!

Now, to the way the NCAA dropped the hammer on Penn State...$60 million fine...Yes!
4 year ban on PSU going to a bowl game...Yes
4 year ban on conference championship and national championship eligibility...Yes!
Loss of 40 scholarships over 4 years...Yes
All wins from 1998-2011, stripped...Yes/Wow!
I have to say, stripping the wins, shocked me...

It's rumored that PSU had this option, or to have a 2 year "Death Penalty"...Shutting down the program for two year...I have to say, this may actually do about the same kind of damage to the "Death Penalty"...Losing 40 scholarships, and the 4 year bans, just kills recruiting for at least 3 years...And yes, there are still PSU alums, and fans, and students bitching and moaning about this...And yes, the Paterno family is holding firmly to their belief that Joe Paterno was a mother fucking saint...He wasn't...I'm sorry you were fooled...We all were...Even people like me, who aren't Penn State fans, we all respected Paterno as a coach...He seemed like a no-nonsense guy...He disciplined his players fairly, and harsher then most coaches did...Sadly he didn't do the same when it came to his coaches...

This was a strong statement by the NCAA...All programs have been put on notice, that this shit can't go on...But now that the NCAA has taken, a moral and social stand, they need to live up to it...There are plenty of other wrong doings that have and will go on...They need to continue to be firm if they want to change the "Football first culture" that NCAA President Mark Emmert spoke of...

That's it for now...

Penn State Report
Category: User Showcase

Normally, I would wait for Beeze to blast off and I would comment on it, but I've got some DAMN venom built up, so here I go.

1.  Pretty clear that Penn State at the highest levels was involved in a cover up.

2.  If I hear another schmuck like Matt Millen come forward and defend Joe Paterno, I'm gonna ralph.  Look, he was found to have been part of a cover up, plain and simple.  AT LEAST ten kids were PERMANENTLY MENTALLY DAMAGED!!!  How many of these victims were violated after Sandusky was caught?

3.  I love the hypocrisy about all of this.  The media is sitting here salivating over all of the salacious details of this.  They're busy reporting yet, yet when the Big Ten starts playing on ESPN, there will be Penn State all over our TV's come Autumn.  ESPN, if you go there after doing all of this reporting -- I'm sending you a letter the likes of which Beeze would be proud.

4.  It took public pressure for the damn NCAA to even make a comment that they will investigate.  YOU FUCKERS SUCK!!!  You should have done that ON YOUR OWN months if not a year ago!

5.  Give this Football program the Death Penalty for many years.  When you do that, go with what Sean Salisbury said - waive the transfer requirements of the kids who want to move on.  These kids shouldn't be responsible for the disgraceful actions of dumb ass adults who are more scared of reputations than dealing with victims of child sexual assault.

6.  Tear the statue down, and I damn sure don't want to hear any more about Penn State fan raging because JoePa's integrity is being challenged.

The All-Star Game,

decides home field advantage

for one of the teams  involved.

One of Bud's better ideas,

kind of like inter league play.

But if it is truly for the player's association,

then why don't they play?

Why do the stars picked by the fan's back out

of the game, is it a waste of their time?

Is it because they know their team does not have a chance

to play in October? So why should they care

who wins the game.......

I call for a one year ban from the ballot,

if you are voted in and decide not to play.

You will have to be a write in, lets see how many votes you get then.

Just speaking my mind, in the image of DVT, if it were Kaline,

Aaron or Yaz they would attend......

Have you forgotten who this game is for?

The FANS you Assholes, they voted you in....

I do not always watch the Derby, and the other generic events,

I sometimes even skip the game,

because Fox's coverage and Joe Buck is so lame.......

So have a great time for those of you who will be watching,

I will probably watch cartoons with Noah

or work in one of my classes,

This is one idea however Bud,

you should have thought through.

Kind of like moving the Astros to the AL,

instead of your Brewers.........

Thanks for those of you that stopped by,

feel free to leave comments good or bad.

I do not hate the All-Star game itself,

I just think Bud has turned something

I loved to watch, into a joke.
