Tuesday in the corner booth at Mo's
Category: FEATURED

Now that the eviction has been enforced in the posh Boston neighborhood that the main offices of oldharry's blog were located, we are settling in at the corner booth at Mo's.
The old building at Fields Corner has been sold and will be converted to condos, hence the move.
The rent is cheaper and the cell phone reception is only good in the back hall by the mens room but until Mo gets sick of us and we get tossed, it will have to do.

THE TOTAL GYM IS GOING BACK, SIXTY DAYS!!! forget it, oldharry pulled a lovehandle and that's one of the major muscle groups once you hit 50.
Wesley and Chuck are picking it up Wednesday.

Sully spent a few days in Boston and the Celtics responded with three straight wins. Doc Rivers even said " it's great to have Kevin back!"

The B's also greeted old friend Sully with a 4-1 win over New Jersey.

The NCAA fiX is in, someone messed with my brackets so I doubt if I can finish out of the cellar....oh yeah...team carrier forgot to fill his out! next to the last has been secured.

D&T baseball draft is next Sunday night. I will have to do an auto draft, have a family reunion to survive. It's the inlaws, that's much better than my family.

Congrats to Curt Schilling for a great career, I like the guy. We are close on political views and his charitable giving is unbelievable. best to you Curt.

This weeks segment of
"You Have To Be Freekin'Kidding Me"
brings us this personal story from the harry's Sunday night.

About 9:30 Pm sitting on the couch with my wife in the living room, sipping on a fine Italian dry red wine watching some Tv show and chatting about our kids when , Blammo!

something hit the front of the house by the front door. I jumped up and put the front light on , opened the door only to see the backsides of three Youths running away.
I put on my deepest oldharry voice and yelled, Hey, Where are you going, get back here you,
youths, get back here! I'm calling the Police. My wife yelled at me, "Get Back here harry, don't chase them, you will regret it if they say you touched them"!she then dialed the non emergency line at the local PD and gave them a quick review, they told her they would send an officer by to talk with us.

I took a stroll around the front yard of our modest home in a modest residential neighborhood in metro south of Boston/north of Providence. I noticed the snow reflectors that I have lineing the flower beds across the front yard were gone. I space them out at about 15 feet as the road curves around the corner we live on. The youths took about half of them, snapped a couple off and threw them at the house. The only damage was a few broken reflectors and some chipped paint. I was still steaming, punks, mrsharry was telling me to drink my glass of wine and calm down. "it's just kids, they didn't do any damage, you have to let it go" I said I will, but if I catch them....

about an hour...that's right, about an hour later a pleasent young officer drove up so I met him in the driveway." What was the damage" he asked.
"Just some broken reflectors and some chipped paint as far as I can tell" I told him.

"Do you know who it was, do you have any issues with anyone around here, any enemies? he asked. I said No to all questions.
then he asked, "Did you chase them? Did you threaten them? did you touch them?" I said "no" to all. He then said, "The records at the station say you have registered guns at this address, is that correct?" I answered yes, but what has that got to do with these punks...I mean youths vandalizing my property?" He said, "just routine questions in this investigation, remember, you called us!"

After a few more minutes of being questioned we agreed that this was an isolated case of mischievious behavior. I promised not to take matters into my own hands and report any future incident to the authorities.

A few years ago it would have been more about the damaged property and the mischievous youths not becomming vandals and hoodlems than about how I would be reacting to any future events......times have changed.

So I'll pull the rest of my reflectors, don't want to leave any temptations or projectiles,
and be sure not to shoot any youths in the neighborhood, and I'll hope it dosen't snow again, because the plows are sure to wreak my flower beds if they arn't marked by the reflectors.
I phoned my cousin in Fla, who is in law enforcment and told him of the situation, He said the officer is trying to prevent the next crime, retaliation by you. Keep the guns in the gun safe and watch what you say.
I still can't fully grasp this.

Sports segment,
Who is that up in the rafters???
At the "Garden" in Boston you see the banners and retired numbers of the greats from
the Celtics and Bruins past. Who are these guys any way?

I decided to take a couple a week and maybe fill in a few blanks on the men behind the numbers.

#1 Walter Brown.
The founder and first owner of the Boston Celtics franchise...Owned the Celtics from 1946 through 1964...Passed away after suffering a heart attack at his Cape Cod house on September 7, 1964...Born on February 10, 1905...Also was the owner of the Boston Garden-Arena Corporation, and President of the Boston Bruins hockey team...was instrumental in the creation of the first NBA All-Star Game in 1951, which was played in the Boston Garden.

#2 Red Auerbach.
The number signifies the fact that Auerbach is second only to Walter Brown as the most significant person in the history of the Boston Celtics organization...Was Head Coach of the team from 1950-51 through 1965-66, winning nine NBA world championship titles, that included eight straight from 1958-59 through 1965-66...He went on to serve as President and General Manager, leading the Celtics to an additional seven NBA championships...Named NBA Coach of the Year in 1965...Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1968...Named the NBA 25th Anniversary All-Time team coach in 1970...NBA Executive of the Year in 1980...Was selected as the "Greatest Coach in the History of the NBA" by the Professional Basketball Writers' Association of America in 1980...Was named one of the Top 10 Coaches in NBA history in 1996...passed away on October 28, 2006.
