Welcome back this week folks, where just like everybody else I'm struggling with what to talk about...

Rant #1 – MLB.   Melky Cabrera, you are an idiot.  In the meantime Giants fans, I don't want to hear any whining out of you!  The Giants have had far too many getting caught up with the needle, so I’m left to wonder about the culture of the organization…

Tampa gets another perfect game/no-hitter hung on them then the next day they go down to Anaheim and drop a 7-0 slap-down of the Angels and follow that up with three more wins to sweep the Halos?  Crazy.

Rant #2 – NFL.   Putting much stock into pre-season play isn't terribly smart, however one thing I'm noticing throughout the league in pre-season is that the Offensive Lines are way behind everybody else in development.  Good Lord, it looks like a jail break everywhere, but most notably in Pittsburgh, Dallas, SF, the Jets and many other places.  Can't believe QB's aren't getting hurt more.  Other thoughts...

Interesting stat retweeted by ProFootballTalk:  “…Andrew Luck’s 11 preseason drives so far have produced 38 points.  The Jets have had 23 possessions and scored NINE points.”  Now the media wants to go with the WR injuries and all of a sudden they've discovered that the O-Line sucks so they want to give the QB's passes.

Memo to Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, that hit you laid on Byron Leftwich was a cheap shot and you deserved the fine.  Shut up, pay the fine, and move on.

I know Green Bay was injured, but Cleveland doing Green Bay like that AT LAMBEAU?   If I'm Packer fan, I'm wondering about the defense.  Seriously.  Giving up 30 to Cleveland?

Seriously Miami, what the hell was that?  Now against Tampa and Carolina your first string got smoked, while your second and third string had to at least make the score look respectable. 

I’m not gonna sit here in week two of preseason and hit the panic button, but man the 49ers O-Line in pass protection had better improve quickly.  If I'm Harbaugh, I consider putting a wildcat package together.  Don’t use it much, but Colin Kaepernick at QB has speed to burn and with the improved wide out situation and depth in the backfield, it could be an outstanding wrinkle.  Injuries are piling up here too!

Speaking of the panic button, San Diego Charger fan had better start reaching for it.  Yeah, they beat Dallas, but it was the second and third teams who did the damage.  Philip Rivers is uh, struggling to say the least.  I will say that San Diego's defense has the opportunities to be improved big time!

Seattle could be an interesting team down the line this season.  No, I'm not saying playoffs, but they're certainly capable of being a spoiler, especially if they can get anything out of their wide-outs.  Pete Carroll, make Matt Flynn your starter and let Russell Wilson gain some time learning, because I think this dude is your future QB.

Rant #3 – NHL.  Yeah, yeah it’s still Summer, but if I’m hockey fan, I’m getting pretty nervous.  Let me say to the NHL – you damn sure don’t want to go the lockout route.  Fans are getting pretty bent about the NFL and NBA going there last year, and you can’t afford another lockout/strike.  I’m not sure what the issues are, but I’ll bet cost has to be one, and they’re doing the same things the other leagues are doing, starting to pay nine figures to players.  Now the owners want to control costs?  Once that genie is let out, you’re done.  And Don Fehr being around isn’t helping folks.  

Bonus Rant – Just Shut Up – Vanessa Bryant.  Oh yeah, there was this one story out of the NBA.  The wife of Kobe Bryant made a comment:  “I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can’t win championships.”  Was the comment taken out of context?  Of course, but don't set yourself up like that.  I got no love for Kobe Bryant, but I gotta wonder if he’s thinkin’ of that old rap by MC Nas-D known as “Gold Diggin’ Girls”.  The video is a bit much, so I won’t post it, but Vanessa, it was once said:  If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then by golly, it’s a duck!!!  Think about it!!!
