Tags: NFL Cleveland Cleveland Browns Peyton Hillis Madden Layoffs Ignorance

Yes Cleveland, my beloved hometown, I'm about to take a dump all over you again!

People, especially here in the Cleve are all a buzz, that Browns running back Peyton Hillis beat out Michael Vick for the "Madden '12" cover...Now I love how Peyton Hillis plays, and how he busted his ass last year for the Browns...I loved him when he blowing people up at Arkansas with Felix Jones and Darren McFadden, but there are bigger fish to fry...

The Cleveland Schools a shit-canning 800 teachers and staff...Fire stations are being closed...350-400 city emploees are being laid off, including a lot of police officers...The latest class at the academy will be allowed to graduate, but won't be sworn in...Sorry guys, thanks for busting your ass, but no job for you...

But don't worry Clevelanders, you voted you asses off to get Peyton Hillis on the "Madden" cover...Way to go, now you just brought that curse down on us...Fucking dummies!

I'd love to see Hillis hold a press conference and say, "I'd really like to thank all the fans in Cleveland, for ruining my fucking career!"

Oh, and I checked...That dolt JDIN is thrilled about Hillis, and turning a blind eye to the real issues!

That's all for now...Oh if you want to catch my views on some hot-button issues, my second edition of IGNORANCE_WAS_BLISS was posted Tuesday night...

The end of the week is here, and it's time for some finger popping!

First I have to start with Bill Burr...I wanted to get this in earlier in the week, but oh well...Burr is a huge sports fan, and loyal to his Boston roots...Last week on The Opie & Anthony Show Bill talked about how he hated how important the Pats/Jets game was to him...Saying, "I really need this one." Well on his Monday Morning Podcast he dealt with the loss, in typical Bill Burr fashion...

Next, I said I was going to start getting into Hockey more, now that Football season is just about done...Wednesday night helped that out greatly, as I sat down to watch my beloved New York Rangers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs...Holy shit! The Leafs are a disgrace...I have said Toronto GM Brian Burke is the most overrated piece of shit in Hockey for years now, and the way he's had the Leafs going is just helping to prove that point...Keep on trading draft picks and young talent for average players Burke, it's doing wonders for ya!

If you didn't know, the Rangers rolled the Leafs 7-0, lead by 4 goals and a an assist from Marian Gaborik...

The NHL likes to think of Toronto as one it's key markets...I have no idea why...The team has been in shambles for some time now...They would have been better off sending their AHL affiliate out there...At least they wouldn't have given up...Yes I said it...I watched an entire NHL team give up halfway through a game...Well except Colton Orr, he kept trying to get into fights and running people, but it did no good...

The fan-base in Toronto has got to take a stand...Tell Burke to get a goalie, and stop trading away talented young ones...Actually fuck Burke...Tell ownership to get that hack out of there...Hell give me a few months, to get in shape and I'll get between the pipes for your non-scoring, sorry ass team...

Next there's the Cleveland Browns...It just broke that the Browns will be hiring Dick Jauron to be their Defensive Coordinator...This had been the rumor since Pat Shurmur was hired to be the Head Coach, but it sure has taken some time...What is also taking some time, and probably will continue to, is hiring a Offensive Coordinator...Why? I'm sure it has something to do with Shurmur, a first time Head Coach, who had only been an OC for 2 years, saying he plans to call his own plays...Well why the fuck would anyone want the OC job...This asshole who is younger than you, coached less than you, is now your boss...Oh, and he wants to do your job too...

People here in the Cleve keep saying we have to trust team president Mike Holmgren...Why? What the hell has he done? He won 1 "Super Bowl" as coach in Green Bay...He had a number of good years as a coach, but he was pretty average...So why do I need to trust in his fat, walrus looking ass? Tell Me! You can't, can you?

In other news...Hollywood hottie, Anne Hathaway is slated to play Catwoman in the next Batman movie...I like the choice!

And now, onto the finger licking good, finger poppin' ladies!

Enjoy the weekend...

Another weekend has passed by, and Monday is here again...This week, I have no idea what I'm writing...You may be scratching your head and wondering why...I mean hell, there were 4 NFL playoff games this weekend...Well, the Beeze took a big, fat, 0-4 this weekend...I worked Saturday, so I was lucky enough to not have to watch those two games I was on the wrong side of...

Sunday I tapped out of the Bears/Seahawks game at halftime...The Seahawks looked like crap, and Cutler looked good...By good I mean, not throwing it to the other team...Then came the big game...The only one I wanted to watch...Jets versus Patriots...But somehow I lost control of my TV when I was working on my Chicken Chili...As I cleaned the kitchen, a mess that was left from Saturday while I was at work, and kept an eye on the chili, I listened to the game on the radio...Holy Westwood One has shitty coverage...First, I hate Randy Cross...Second, the play-by-play guy couldn't stop mentioning Brady putting his hands "in the hand warmer hanging at his belt"...Over and over...Fucking die douchebag!

Then I was getting ready to sit down and watch the 4th quarter...My wife and daughter informed me that it was time for the Golden Globes Red Carpet Show, followed by the Golden Globes...Well fuck me! Stop the world...A bunch of rich douchebags are getting together to pat each other on the back for playing pretend...FUCK!!!

So I go to the man cave/play room for the 4th...Why did I even bother...The Jets defense had played great all day, and the Patriots offense was off their game...The Patriots look as bad Sunday, as they did in the game they lost to the Browns...I'm not disrespected the Jets with that comment...The Jets did a lot of the same things the Browns did...They threw the Pats off, and at times the exposed the New England defense the way it had been so many times this year...Only this time the Patriots offense couldn't carry the team...Congrats to the Jets, even though I hate them!

My friend Nutball posted this on facebook, and I hat to use it...He asked if this was Bart Scott or Clubber Lang?

So now the Jets go to Pittsburgh, and the Packers go to Chicago...So I'll make my picks now, but clearly you shouldn't bet the kids college fund based on my predictions...I'm taking the Steelers and the Bears...If the Jets get into the "Super Bowl" after all the preseason hype, and "Hard Knocks" and all the bullshit, I'll be one step closer to becoming one of those people who think the NFL is fixed...

In other NFL news...
THE_BROWNS_HIRED_PAT_SHURMUR to be their new head coach...Clearly you should click that link to get my thoughts...Let's just say it wasn't the most exiting or sexy move to make...One local radio host couldn't stop going on and on about the fact the Shurmur got the job because of NEPOTISM...Which is really funny, because his father is one of the owners of the radio station he runs his stupid yap on...What a dolt!

I haven't written much about Hockey this year so far...I always get wrapped up in Football season, and the I jump into Hockey late...So expect to start getting some more Hockey soon...Actually, my Rangers took on rival Philadelphia Sunday...Shit always gets heated with these two teams...

Too bad the Rangers lost 3-2...

Between going 0-4 on Football games...The Rangers losing, and an all around shit week at work...I need a laugh...Take it away Bill!

Have a week...

Later, The Beeze.

Browns Hire Pat Shurmur

Tags: NFL Cleveland Browns Pat Shurmur Mike Holmgren Dick Jauron Tom Heckert

The news came down this afternoon...The Cleveland Browns have decided on anew head coach...Pat Shurmur, son of Fritz Shurmur, who was Mike Holmgren's defensive coordinator in Green Bay back in 1996 when the Packers won the "Super Bowl"...

The reaction in Cleveland is mixed...Some are saying Pat Shurmur doesn't have enough experience...He's only been an offensive coordinator for two years with the Rams...Before that he was a QB's coach in Philly...Browns GM Tom Heckert worked with him there and has been high on him for awhile...

Some feel Shurmur will just be a puppet for Holmgren who they feel still is a coach, but doesn't want to put in the hours...But many of these people are also the ones that wanted Holmgren to take the job right from jump...So would it be that bad if he was playing puppet master...

Many Browns fans wanted a BIG name coach...Gruden was on every one's list...Old Walrus Holmgren said he spoke with Gruden, Cowher, and Fox, before interviewing the three others they talked to...Many feel it will be hard to land solid free-agents with a rookie coach, and a team that seems to be in a perpetual state of rebuild...

The first candidate they interviewed was Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell, another innocent victim of the "Rooney Rule"...Everyone in the free world knew the Browns wanted an offensive minded coach, Fewell didn't stand a chance...The "Rooney Rule" is becoming a joke....The other candidate was Atlanta OC Mike Mularkey, another Holmgren disciple...

Me, I'm not one of these Clevelanders who is saying, "In Holmgren we trust"...He hasn't done shit to earn my trust yet...I like GM Tom Heckert who had a very good draft last year...Oh, and he pulled off the Brady Quinn for Peyton Hillis deal! Heckert seemed very confident in the press conference today...I like that...But I'm not sure I'm sold...I didn't hear of any other teams wanting Shurmur, just the Browns...

I'm glad they brought in an offensive guy, and if they land Dick Jauron as the new Defensive Coordinator, that may ease my worries a bit more...And yes, that is the buzz around town, that the Browns are close to getting Jauron...

I'm not going to shit all over this move, and I'm not going to celebrate it either...I'm going to just wait and see...As always in Cleveland, we're waiting until next year!

Later, The Beeze.

Mangina Ousted As Browns Coach

They loved him, they hated him, he beat New England he was a hero, he gave upper echelon teams a headache but it wasn't enough...Eric Mangina is once again unemployed. Cleveland loved to hate this man, Browns faithful really never took to their head coach seriously, nor did they buy into his system. If you were a Browns fan you expected this team to be at last .500, especially with thel ikes of Peyton HIllis and a defense that gave numerous teams fits. For more on the story read below and don't be surpirsed if Mike Holmgrem is next to don the headset! Lord Knows he can't do worse!

BEREA, Ohio — Browns president Mike Holmgren began looking for Cleveland's next coach just hours after firing Eric Mangini. Holmgren, who won a Super Bowl title with Green Bay and guided Seattle to its only appearance in one, would not rule out coaching again. However, he said Monday that he is not part of the initial search to find a replacement for Mangini, who was dismissed after going 10-22 in two seasons.

"My goal is to find exactly the right person to eventually lead us to the championship," Holmgren said. "I was hired to be the president of the Cleveland Browns. I think this year I've grown into the job. Having said that, I am also a coach and will always be a coach. To tell you right now that I would never coach again — here or any place — wouldn't be honest.

"But as of right now, my job is to find the best coach available for this job. That's what I'm trying to do. And that does not include me right now."

Holmgren, 62, sent out applications Monday for permission to speak with potential NFL candidates, including those on playoff teams. He said his search will not be limited to only those with pro experience. He has no timetable to find Mangini's replacement but said it's vital to get it right.

"I don't want to do this again," he said, "so I really think I have to get this one right — for organization continuity, for the ability to keep people in place for a long period of time to develop the organization."

Cleveland's next coach will be the franchise's fifth since 1999.

Holmgren said no decisions have been made on any of Mangini's assistants. He gave them the rest of this week off and will meet with them next Monday. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is reportedly expected to interview for Carolina's vacancy.

Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert will lead Cleveland's coaching search, which got underway before Mangini had left the building. Holmgren did not reveal names of any candidates and said he has not yet talked to former head coaches Jon Gruden and John Fox, two close friends.

Holmgren said owner Randy Lerner has not given him any budget restrictions on finding a successor for Mangini, who still has two years left on a contract worth a reported $8 million.

Although the Browns have been mired in losing and almost constant change, he believes coaching in Cleveland is attractive to anyone in the profession.

"This is one of the great jobs in the country," he said. "If you're a football coach, that's what you want to be. There is a challenge there that I think appeals to men in this business."
