Hello and welcome to another Wednesday of deep thoughts. Last Saturday was a road trip to Beaumont, Tx to watch the UTPA Broncs take on the Lamar Cardinals. I have family in Beaumont, so the trip was an opportunity to catch up and see Blake and his team play. We got off rather late, but I was sure that I could get us there by first pitch. Those plans were altered by a flat tire on the outskirts of Austin. A driver rolled by and pointed out a tire quickly going flat. No worries I thought, I will pull into this gas station and grab some air. Of course, the air was out of order. Does it piss anyone else off that fewer gas stations offer air and water these days? They seem to only offer this at a cost now and frequently those companies servicing the equipment don’t keep it working. This is the first flat I have had on this car and was thrown off by the spare. For the life of me, I could not get the spare on…so, I ran across the highway to see if the oil change place had air. They did, so if you happened to be driving by Saturday on Highway 290 that was me carrying the tire across the street. Damn…that sucked. Got air and “rolled” the tire back across the street. I decided tire smudged hands were better than another “ab” workout. I asked the guy at the oil change place if there was a tire shop nearby…no you have to go back toward Austin, he said. Forget that…I decided to keep moving forward. Literally 3 miles down the road, I am saying to Julie…hopefully, we can find a tire store along the way. “You mean like that one, Julie asks?’ I look across the highway and there is Leal’s Tire Repair. A quick U turn, a short wait and the tire is being repaired…until it wasn’t. The dreaded words…the screw damaged the sidewall when the tire went flat. That’s okay…put the spare on the other rim, because the spare does not fit. “What do you mean it won’t fit…this is a universal rim.” Then, he spun it around so that it fit neatly on the lugs…damn. Oh, well…now I know. I paid the man and pushed onward.

We made it to Beaumont about the fourth inning..we only saw him strike out in his last at bat. With a runner on third, the pitcher let loose a wide slider that Blake was unable to jump out far enough to corral. The run scored and I suspected that Blake would not bat again. With two outs, the Cardinal Coach tried to steal a bag, but the throw down was on the mark and the runner was way out. Honestly, it was worth the trip to see that throw. A pinch hitter came on to hit for Blake in the beginning of the 8th and Blake’s day was done. The Broncs tried to mount a comeback, but came up short…losing 5 to 3. We said hello to Blake and then they were off to eat. As freshman parents…we are still figuring out the routine. We had hoped to get a chance to eat with our son, but instead we went with my cousin Scott to Pappadeaux and had an awesome meal. If you ever have the chance to visit this place, I promise you will not be disappointed… http://pappadeaux.com/home/. Anyway, we got to catch up with Scott and hear about his daughter Blair Richmond tearing it up at New Mexico Jr. College. Her team won their conference championship and they are gearing up to play their conference tournament next weekend. If they win the tournament, they are headed to Kansas to play in the National JUCO tourney…very cool stuff. Blair has earned a starting spot and is hitting 44% from three point range in conference…which is simply terrific. It turns out that the local college coach at Lamar had recruited Blair, but headed off to accept the head job strangely enough at UTPA. It would certainly be crazy if she ended up there next year. We managed a quick visit with Blake at the hotel before he had to leave to make his curfew. With the storm Titan headed in on Sunday, we decided to skip the Sunday game and head home. After spending Saturday without a computer, I was glad to be home with a chance to catch up on the blogs at the Gab. IHM’s blog was one that really hit home for me. It was simply a great blog, in case you missed it…here it is:

Reading about Coach Beck put me in a very good place and got me to thinking back on the people in my life that had an impact on me. Teachers and coaches and even a band director were important in shaping who I am. But, I could not point to one person like Coach Beck. Monday night, I was flipping through TV shows when I happened upon the NFL channel. It was one of those Football Life shows featuring Vince Lombardi. When it got to the part where Lombardi was announced to be terminal and described how all of his former players began to travel to see him to say goodbye. I was again remembering times past and mentally scrolling through people and events…but still, I could not pick “that” person. As I sat down to watch a bit of the MLB channel, the Cleveland Indians were being discussed. I suddenly knew who “that” person was…David Gentiles. You may remember back in 2009 that I wrote about my friend’s passing on TSN. David was a youth minister with a love for people and baseball. Our daughters were the same age and we ended up coaching fast pitch softball together. David played baseball at Baylor and had two high school teammates that played professionally. He knew baseball and loved to share his knowledge of the game. He had an amazing way of mentoring. He would teach or share and make it seem like you figured it out yourself. He was the most unselfish man I have ever met. He was a single dad…a father of three daughters. His ex-wife simply decided to leave one day and it was clear that David struggled at times to raise his daughters. But, raise them he did…without a single complaint.

As a youth minister, David knew kids of all ages and he liked nothing more than to go watch them play sports or perform at school. I had no idea until David’s funeral, just how many lives David changed. One of the tributes to David I found to be extremely accurate. “David had a way of making each person feel like they had a special relationship with him”. Driving home last weekend, my wife made a comment that caught me completely off guard. She asked me…”do you know who would have loved watching Blake play college baseball?” When she answered David, a broad smile broke across my face. Yes…indeed he would have. Each year, around this time of year, I always looked forward to talking to David about his favorite team, the Cleveland Indians. I asked him one time why a kid from Louisiana was an Indians fan; he looked at me and said I don’t know, they just seemed like a team that needed a fan. If you remember the Indians back in the 60s and 70s…they were not very good, but that did not matter to David. He loved underdogs and he loved his Indians. I don’t know if I have ever felt so bad for a team losing the World Series as I did in 1997. The Marlins beat the Indians and I knew that David was really disappointed. That was a very good Indians team and one that I thought would win it all. Typical of David, he did not complain…but rather talked about the plays made by the Marlins to win that series. December 18th 2013 was the fourth year since David’s passing and I still cannot bring myself to remove his number from my phone book. In the years since his death, I am just now realizing how much I learned from David about things like compassion and humility. It is why; I always keep an eye on the Indians and secretly hope that they will win it again soon. RIP David…we sure miss you.

This was David's service. How many people do you know that have a funeral service on a baseball diamond? It was so crowded that we were a hundred yards from the stands...

There is much more to David than I have laid out here. I am amazed to go back and read how David is remembered. I am including a few links to check out if you are so inclined. The story about the book 90 Minutes in Heaven is pretty amazing…

I was surprised to read on Tuesday that Ian Kinsler wished 162 losses on his old Ranger teammates. Reading the he called Jon Daniels a “sleazeball” was of less surprise. The core of Rangers that twice made the World Series is slowly being replaced. The more I think about it, I really don’t have an issue with Ian Kinsler being pissed off at being traded. There was one thing in the article that did catch my eye: “Kinsler said in the story that he was asked to bear too much of a leadership role with the team after Michael Young left and didn't like being asked to move to first base in 2013 to make room for middle-infield prospect Jurickson Profar (something the Rangers didn't do after Kinsler voiced his reluctance).” Why would a veteran player like Kinsler have an issue with being asked to take a leadership role? I would have thought watching Michael Young all those years would have given Ian better guidance. I also thought the tweet that Josh Hamilton put out was lame…

Not any fun being in the Texas doghouse, is it @IKinsler3? Hamilton also commented that he won’t be the only villain in Texas anymore. Sorry Josh, I don’t think many Ranger fans will see Kinsler as a villain. You still have the top spot in the doghouse. More importantly, why can’t Josh Hamilton just let stuff in Texas go? It would seem that he would have his hands full trying to figure out how to not suck again this year.

That is all I have today, but will leave you with a bit of Jack Handey…

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

The first thing was, I learned to forgive myself. Then, I told myself, "Go ahead and do whatever you want, it's okay by me."

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a few deep thoughts of your own.

Tags: NFL Cleveland Browns Cleveland Browns Fans Cleveland Indians Dolts Colts Trent Richardson

For the last few years I have been a very vocal critic of the Cleveland Browns...Especially when that fat walrus Mike Holmgren was here...Besides that I have also been a very vocal critic of the Cleveland sports fan, especially Browns fans...In April I signed my fandom over to the Seattle Seahawks in a two year deal...Hey, players leave, coaches leave...As we saw here in the Cleve, teams leave too...So why the hell should we all be so damn loyal....

Guess who is smiling today...Yep, this fucking guy! When news broke yesterday evening that the Browns traded Trent Richardson to the Colts, I was slightly shocked...Then I laughed...This is the guy that was a no doubt about it top 4 pick...The Browns moved up to take him 3rd overall...Two years ago...Dude was going into his second year, and some how he doesn't fit into these ass-hats future plans...He now joins second year, young stud QB Andrew Luck in the Colts backfield...Clearly the Colts know how to rebuild on the fly!

The Browns front office and coaching staff can say what they want, but it's bullshit...They have given up on this season after two weeks...QB Brandon Weeden is hurt...He can't go this week...SO what do they do...They aren't starting #2 QB Jason Campbell...They're going to start the local guy, 3rd stringer, Brian Hoyer...Not sure how that makes sense, other than saying, we are tanking this fucking season...No offense Hoyer!

I have repeatedly scream at Browns fans for wasting their money on this franchise...You wouldn't keep going to the same restaurant if the food was awful...You wouldn't keep going to the same mechanic if your car kept coming out more fucked up...You just don't keep dumping your money into a bad product...It's common sense...And most people agree, except when it comes to their shitty sports teams...It's time to listen to me Cleveland...Don't put anymore money in this criminal fuck, owners pocket...

Many media members, local and national, keep telling Cleveland fans to "Have faith," and that "This trade will be good for both teams down the road." NO...No it won't...It just fucking won't...This isn't a bitching Clevelander feeling bad about our station in life...This is me...And this is a fact, this trade won't be good for the Browns...It is fact, backed up by years of proof....Since 1999 this franchise has been run by idiot owners, stupid GM's, and bad coaches....They all come in with a new plan...Start over, making it their own, and fired before any positive results appear...Why would this group of dolts with no proven, positive track record be any different? It won't be!

So the Browns go in the shitter...Draft one of the elite QB's that will come out next year...Then what? His career will be done in 4-5 years, because the building blocks of Alex Mack and Joe Thomas will be on the decline of their careers before these dolts sure up the rest of the offensive line...So star QB will have 3 season ending injuries by week 8 in each of his first 3 seasons...He'll be busted up, and gun-shy...The team will give up on him, trade their best talent for draft picks and rebuild again....It's a horrible cycle of suck....

If the NFL cared at all about the fans of Cleveland, they would just disband the Browns...End it...ESPN Classic can still show "The Drive" and "The Fumble"...Fucking glory days! NFL Network can break out the old NFL films stuff, showing people how the pre-Super Bowl era Browns were one the greatest teams in the history of sports...But this shit that Cleveland has tolerated since 1999 needs to just go away...Go the fuck away!

Cleveland, I'm not lying to you...I was born and raised here...lived here my whole life....Your life will be better if you do what I did, and turn your back on the Cleveland Browns...Make them earn your money, respect, and love...Just don't give it away like a slut...Oh, and by the way, the Indians will finish this season with a winning record, and are in a tight battle for a playoff spot, and you're missing it, because all you care about is a shitty football team that has done nothing but take a big steaming dump on your chest!

Fuck the Browns!

Happy Memorial day! Enjoy your parties...Enjoy your cookouts...Enjoy your parades...And then remember why you're doing these things...

If you see a veteran, say thank you...If you know some one serving now, say thank you.

We've been going through a string of Questions of the Day about the all-time greats of Baseball...When we talked pitcher, no one, except me brought up Bob Feller...

People accept Feller as a great, but he often gets over looked for how great he was...Why? Because on December 9, 1941, two days after Pearl Harbor, Feller enlisted in the Navy...It was as he was hitting the prime of his career...Feller was selected to the American League All-Star Team in each of the four seasons, before he enlisted, with a 93-44 record...He averaged 245 strikeouts per season and 23 complete games...His service time cost him about four seasons...Which would roughly have been another 75 wins...Add that to the 266 he ended his career with...WOW! 3 no-hitters! 36 complete games in the 1946 season...that's 36 complete games in a season...That is something unheard of in my lifetime...

As for his military service...Feller won 8 Battle Stars as an Anti-Aircraft Gunner...And never regretted losing almost 4 years of his baseball prime...Sounds like an All-time great to me!

-Saturday My New York Rangers lost to the Boston Bruins, ending the season for my guys...I'll be rooting for the Bruins to take out Sid the Skid and the rest of the Shittsburgh Penguins...Pens fans feel cocky...Watch it...Boston rolls 4 tough lines...Their 4th line is better then most 3rd lines...The big man on the blue line, Chara gets all the love, but if you paid attention to this past series, you saw McQuaid, Boychuck, and the rookie, Krug are all outstanding D-men....

-I had no intention of writing anything College Football related, but Saturday night Twitter blew up with news that Notre Dame QB Everrett Golson was no longer enrolled at the University...It was then confirmed by ND officials but the reason why was not released...There were rumbles about it being Academic reasons, or code of conduct violations...But nothing for sure...

Then Sunday, Golson released this statement...

" Dear Notre Dame Community,

I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term.

...
I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community.

I chose to attend Notre Dame because of its mission to develop me both on and off the football field.

My parents and the community I grew up in have instilled values in me that have and will continue to allow me to be successful in the future. There have been many lessons learned as I worked to become the starting quarterback at Notre Dame and each was a result of Coach Kelly's belief in me as an athlete and a person.

At this point, I understand how my integrity could be in question but I want to reassure my supporters that through this experience I will return a better student athlete as well as a better individual.

Lastly, I want to thank the University of Notre Dame for the opportunity already granted and also the opportunity going forth to regain my eligibility in the winter of 2014.

Thanks,
Everett Golson "

I know there are plenty of Notre Dame haters out there...Fine...But this right here shows why Notre Dame is an elite University first, and football and everything else comes after...Find me another major program trying to build off of a National Championship game appearance, that had highly tauted (RS)Freshman QB (Gunner Kiel) transfer, that would suspend/boot their starting QB....I doubt you'd find any...

So what's next...Tommy Rees is the front runner...Andrew Hendrix is the more mobile, but has seen limited time...And there is Freshman Malik Zaire who was an early enrollee...Should be interesting...

On the funnier side of this story...Oaks Christian High School junior QB, Brandon Dawkins was out on Twitter trying to get in touch with Coach Brian Kelly to commit...Gotta like an opportunistic kid!

-Saturday morning we had another good baseball practice...Kids are coming along...Now if the rec could get their shit together, and get us schedules and uniforms, that would be great...After the morning practice Little Beeze and I grabbed some coffee and donuts from Dunkin' (coffee wasn't for him)...We picked up Molls and went to the park for a couple hours while my wife and oldest daughter went downtown to check out some of the Captain America 2 filming...The didn't see any stars...Some stunt men, a big shootout scene, and some explosions...

I'm glad Cleveland is getting this little surge to it's economy...But with all the streets and major road closings this filming is causing, on top of all the construction, I'm really glad I don't work downtown...I wonder if this is having a negative effect on the businesses down there...

-If anyone is interested, Monday Duke and Syracuse will play for the NCAA Lacrosse National Championship...who do you have?

-Sunday was the big tradition of the Indy 500...I haven't watched this since I was a kid...But I did see the highlights...I don't call them that, the talking heads on TV do...I don't follow auto racing but a race ending under the caution flag, could be one of the most anti-climactic things ever...Not a highlight at all...Just a letdown...

I hope everyone's weekend has been good to them...Have fun, and remember...

Have a week...

Yeah, some people want you to keep quiet...I know plenty of people want me to be quiet...But we know that just isn't going to happen...Sometimes shit needs to be said...Even if it upsets people...Why hold it in?  'Cause some one on facebook may unfriend you?  They aren't your friend if they can't take you telling the truth, or sharing how you feel about something...

New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist caught some shit for venting his frustration after the Rangers lost game one to Boston Thursday night, in OT...Lundqvist was upset with himself for the 3-2 loss...But he also voiced his frustration with the teams lack of offense so far in the playoffs...He said what every single Rangers fan has been saying for weeks...But people thought it was wrong for him to call out his teammates...Why?  Why can some hack write about how horrible the power play is, but the guy carrying the team can't?

I'm not joking, I read a blog that pointed out that Lundqvist hasn't been good in OT...Well, couldn't that also be pointed at the rest of team for defensive breakdowns, and lack of scoring!?!  There was even a comment that Thursday night Lundqvist wasn't at his best...Well, the 2 previous games he threw shutouts...And yeah, if you watched closely, he wasn't at his best...And with that said, he made 45 saves on 48 shots...And his teammates blocked over 20 shots that night...If not for Lundqvist, Thursday night, the Rangers would have been destroyed...So he blew off some steam, and rightfully so!

But things got worse...Sunday the Bruins blasted Lundqvist and company 5-2...I had hoped Henrik popping off would have charged them up...And actually some of the Rangers did look like they took it up a notch...But the Bruins had a lot more jump...The series goes back to New York now...I'm not worried yet...The Rangers just need to do what they did against Washington...They'll be alright...

-Saturday horse racing took a ding again...They've been dying for a Triple Crown winner but it won't happen again...Just as favorite, Orb started to make his move, Titletown Five and Departing tried making their own moves, and pinched Orb in...He got stuck in the pack and couldn't do a thing...I had Departing winning, (Thanks Eddie Olczyk) but no one was catching Oxbow...That horse ran a hell of a race...With that said, I'll still be watching the Belmont...there are a number of exciting horses, and this thing should be wide open.

-Saturday morning Little Beeze and I headed off to our first baseball practice...Things are running behind this year...New organization running the league, and they're trying to figure it out...The practice was good...I've got a lot of good hitters...And my two best fielders, are girls...They both have great baseball sense...I can already tell it's going to be a good season...Had a number of parents that stuck around and helped out...Nice change of pace!

-Cleveland weather update...We have officially skipped Spring and are into Summer...80 degrees this weekend and my kids wanted to go ice skating Friday night...

And when we weren't at the Rink, or Baseball practice...Little sis, wouldn't leave big brother's side...

-And lastly, The Cleveland Indians...I'm shocked...There has been a lot of rumbling about the Tribe having low attendance...Well, considering a 24oz Pabst cost $10, Parking $20...And every road in the City is ripped up or closed...and the last two seasons the team fell apart after the All-Star Break, I'm guessing people are playing it safe with how they spend their money...It also doesn't help that while the Tribe is playing great, all the Sports talk shows in town are talking about the fucking Browns for some reason...

                    Anyone else hungry right now?

Well, Spring has sprung...It reached over 60 degrees in the Cleve Sunday...The Indians home opener is set to kick off...So, based on past history, it will either rain, snow, have heavy fog, or the city will fall into Lake Erie...But no matter what, Clevelanders will be out in full force, getting shit-faced, and many will have no idea what happens in the game...Because let's be honest...Opening day is just fake holiday type of thing...Like Valentine's day! But it gives people a reason to take an extra day off and pound beers..."America, FUCK YEAH!"

I took my extra day off Friday...The wife and I had some things to take care of in the morning, and it was nice to have an extra day with the kids while they were on Spring Break...Minutes after I got home from work Thursday, the UPS man showed up with 3 large boxes...When I ordered bunk beds for my daughters, I didn't expect them to show up in this many pieces...

I got them about 97% done in about 2 hours...Then I took a long break...Friday afternoon I finished them up....

Then we just had to wait for the mattress for the bottom bunk to show...It showed up at 7:00AM Saturday morning...I wasn't pleased about that timing...But Molly and her big sis love their bunk beds...

We spent plenty of time hitting a few parks this weekend, with the touch of Spring we had...We also stopped for a bite to eat, where Molly hammed it up for the camera, and people around us...

The wife took the older two to see Jurassic Park on the big screen, while Molls and I watched baseball and napped...The new bed is comfy...

-So far I have found myself getting into the baseball season much easier then normal...Maybe it's the fantasy teams that have me watching closely...I've been battling my impatience with guys starting slow...and the occasional guy starting well, who is going to tank in a month...I've been all over the waiver wire, looking for the next great break out player...And seriously, Chris Davis, calm down and save some for July...Holy fucking hot start batman! Dude is making a bunch of us look stupid!

The Indians will enter their home opener at .500...They have 4 with the Yankees, 3 with the White Sox, and 3 with the Red Sox on the home stand...They better take advantage of the Yankees...The Tribe has already shown a Jekyll and Hyde side...The Rays 4 and 5 starters shut them down in back to back games, then Sunday the Tribe shredded Cy Young winner David Price...Hey, if this sorry team can go .500 all year, that's a step in the right direction...Oh, and while it's early...That off season trade, sending Choo to Cincy, and bringing the Indians Stubbs and Bauer, looks fucking awful...Stubbs blows...I don't care how much speed the guy has...It doesn't matter if he can't get on base...And Bauer, looked like the head case his ex-teammates described him as...

-Last week we saw the NHL trade deadline lead to a frenzy of activity...Like the Penguins getting Brendan Morrow and Jerome Iginla...Morrow has looked horrible and lost...Shocking for such a heady, steady player...Iginla said he wanted to do what was best for Calgary...SO he said no to an offer from Boston, that would have been better fro the Flames, then the deal Pittsburgh made...Why should we be surprised? He hasn't looked that great out there...

So Boston settled for old man Jagr...I was shocked they didn't go after some one who was more then a rent-a-player...So far he has been okay with the Bruins, but the guy is old, and can't put up the minutes...

The Minnesota Wild landed one of the top guys out there, in Jason Pomminville...This guy plays bot ways...Has great hands...A great shot...Good speed...Total game...The Wild can smell a run, and they struck...They gave up their goalie of the future in Matt Hackett and another top prospect Johan Larsson...Buffalo getting Hackett may be a sign of things to come for Ryan Miller...He's been the face of the team, and he's a top tier goalie, but they are a small market team trying to catch lighting in a bottle with a young, deep team that won't send them to bankruptcy again...

The trade that shocked many was the New York Rangers dumping sniper, Marian Gaborik...Not so much that they moved Gabby...That writing was on the wall...He's gotten lazy many times in his career...And if you don't play by coach John Tortorella's rules, you're gonna be gone...The shock was that the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have quietly crawled into the playoff hunt, made the deal for Gaborik...They gave the Rangers Derrick Brassard, who in his first game at MSG had a goal and 3 assists...They also got Young defenseman John Moore who was a top prospect for the Jackets...He had a goal in his Ranger debut...They also got Derek Dorsett who is injured, but adds some grit, and balls the Rangers have missed...

Based off of the youth and talent of Moore, and Brassard, I see this as a win for the Rangers...But for Jackets fans, who saw the team trade their star Rick Nash to the Rangers last year for not much, this had to be nice to see...The team fighting for the playoffs, and they trade some youth for a proven 40 goal scorer...If nothing else, it shows Columbus fans the team really is heading in a new direction...

The Rangers also added size, strength, grit, and talent, when they traded some draft picks to San Jose for Ryane Clowe...As far as the score sheet, Clowe has been awful...But he does all the little things too...And that makes him perfect for Torts...And he fit right into the Rangers system...In is first game with the Rangers he had 2 goals and an assist...His first two goals of the season...Saturday he added another assist, and is seeing more ice time...The change of scenery is paying off...

I was pissed about the NHL lockout/strike, but to be honest, I've really liked this shortened season...It has actually made the regular season count for something....The games seem more intense...The NHL doesn't want to talk about cutting down the season, but it may be something they should look at...

-Before I go...Why not close with a classic tune from my youth...Perfect for the Indians home opener!

Catch the fever!

Have a week...

The Beeze.
