Normally I begin Monday Moaning with some eye candy...But not this week...This week we start with a champion...David Marsh, goalie for the Sylvania Northview High School Hockey team...As many of you have heard, Marsh and his Wildcats faced the St. Ignatius Wildcats in the Ohio High School State Championship...And after 7 overtimes, the game was still tied 1-1...

And that's where it stopped...1-1 tie for the State Championship...Co-Champions...The OHSAA decided after discussing it with the coaches and school administrators, for the sake of the safety of the players, the game was over...

First, look at the shots on goal...Northview 27, Ignatius 79...79 shots, and David Marsh stopped 78...

When asked if he was tired, Marsh said, "I wasn't really tired. When you are in this type of moment, the adrenaline is just pumping."

And based on the reactions of the players, he wasn't the only one who felt that way...Seeing some of the news clips, and pictures, these kids weren't happy about the decision that was made...This was reaction of the St. Ignatius players when they found out...Frustration, and disbelief...They had taken the ice for the 8th OT session...But things seemed off when the Northview players didn't return...

But when they did come out on the ice, it was clear they weren't pleased either...

It seems clear the players had no say...Yes, these are high school kids, and we should worry about their safety...But you can't have  a tie for the championship...Yes, there is no shootout in the rule book...So what! You decided to call the game, why can't you decide to go to a shootout?  Do something...Get a winner...After that long, people almost hate to see a team lose...But after all that, players, and I would think coaches hate to not have a winner...

I'm sorry, this was just weak...There has to be a clear cut winner...They would never pull this shit in Ohio High School Football...They would play to the death if they had to...Football fans, and schools, and coaches would never allow a tie...So why is it okay in Hockey?  IT'S NOT!

Once again, Ohio has given the country another reason to point and laugh at us...Tie in a State Championship...#UnFuckingReal!

There was rumbling going around in the local Hockey circles, (St. Ignatius is from Cleveland) that Northview was just playing their top 2 lines for most of the OT periods, leading to those kids being gassed...And so people here assume Northview was pushing for stopping the game...I don't know if that is true, or if it's just Ignatius people being Ignatius people...They're generally douchebags!  Sorry to all my friends, who went there, and aren't douchebags...Sometimes the St. Edward in me takes over!

But what I do know is, while neither team won, David Marsh is clearly a Champion...

Helluva job by all the kids on both teams...I'm sorry the adults robbed you of a chance at a true title...

Alright, who wants to see a sweet breakaway goal?

We all know they take Hockey seriously in Minnesota...But apparently, they also take their Hockey Hair seriously...

That's it for now...

Have a week...

A couple nights ago, my high school Alma Mater and perennial power, St. Edward played a thrilling 5 overtime playoff game...The Eagles lost 3-2 to The Green Wave of Holy Name, coached by a couple of former Eagles...

Holy Name goalie Sam Pikus was outstanding, making 74 saves...74! That itself was impressive as hell....

But today I was talking with the father of St. Edward captain, Gabe Lampron...The kid is really good...It's looking like he may pass on a college scholarship, and take a shot at juniors...Well after the game...After 5 overtimes, and a crushing loss for a program that expects to be in the state final four every year, Lampron's father noticed a number of players crying...This is something we see often in youth sports...He asked his son "Why weren't you crying?" Gabe responded, "I left everything out there, I have no reason to cry. It's just hockey."

Those words. "it's just hockey" may bother some people...But to me, this kid seems like he may have his shit together...He's been scouted...He's had scholarship offers...But in the end, compared to other things in the world, "it's just hockey." He was confident enough, and proud enough to know he "left everything out there"...So why cry? He's right...Sometimes you lose...But if you leave it all out there, you've got no reason to cry.

Great season by the Eagles!

Holy Name takes on the Rocky River Pirates Saturday in the District finals...

Go Green Wave!

Why Is This A$$hole Still In The NHL?

Tags: NHL Todd Bertuzzi Matt Cooke Head Shots Hockey High School Hockey The Beeze

Yes, I want to know why Todd Bertuzzi is still allowed to play in the NHL...The guy came up through the ranks as a gritty hard-nosed player...He had plenty of skill to go with his size, and grit, but somewhere along the way, he became a piece of shit...

We saw this come to light in 2004, when he sucker-punched Steve Moore from behind, drove him head first into the ice, and broke his neck...He ended Moore's career...Why? Because the Canucks put a bounty out on Moore for a hit he knocked Markus Naslund out with... Moore's hit on Naslund was not ruled illegal by the NHL when it happened...It would be today probably...

But Hockey has always policed itself, and our present day uber-asshole, Matt Cooke went after Moore...They dropped the gloves, and that should have been it...Moore seemed to come out on top... But it wasn't enough for Bertuzzi...

Bertuzzi served a suspension, and apologized and all that crap...But to me, that didn't matter...They way he jumped Moore from behind should have had him booted for good...Since then Bertuzzi hasn't changed his game...He has continued to play physical hockey, and every year he has at least one questionable hit...

Well he did it again this week, with a flying elbow to the head of The Blackhawks, Ryan Johnson...

So how the hell are we suppose to get rid of assholes like Matt Cooke, when assholes like Bertuzzi are still around!?!

And does any of this have anything to do with what happened in a Texas High School Hockey game? I'm not sure I want to open that can of worms yet, but here's what happened...

I love Hockey, and I love the physical aspect of the game, the intentional head-shot shit has got to stop...And guys like Bertuzzi, and Cooke have had their second chances...Now they should be gone...

What do you think?

Later, The Beeze.
