WOW! The weather got so nice in Cleveland on Sunday, it had everyone thinking about Summer...Which got me thinking about images like this one!
While my Brother-in-law in Boston is looking at another mountain of 20+ inches of snow, we're here with sun and 68 degrees....In the last year or two, there has been some crazy weather in the U.S. I mean we're hearing about Tornadoes year round now...Serious weather seems to be hitting everywhere...Well, except one place...The Cleve...Yes, we got some rain and serious wind from "Super Storm Sandy" but our homes didn't blow into the lake...Maybe Mother Nature has realized Cleveland has been shit on enough...
Besides that, we do enough damage ourselves...Just look what this dump truck driver did Saturday morning...
A large portion of I-90 has been closed all weekend while crews take that pedestrian bridge down...Dude knocked it off the pillars...Only in the fucking Cleve!
So, I have to admit that my writing has slipped lately...I've been distracted and tired...So Friday night I forced myself to write...I gave myself a time limit, and knocked out A_15_MINUTE_BLOG just to get my juices going and get shit off my chest...
Now I feel slightly recharged...
A couple months back I was talking about fan loyalty, and how owners and players don't show that same loyalty much these days...That piled on with years of watching Cleveland teams lose, I decided to go free agent...I said that I would choose my baseball team to root for in April...I'll still pay attention to the Indians, but they aren't making the cut...I think Terry Francona will get them going the right direction, but it's not happening this year just because they added 3 guys who hit below .265 and strike out a fucking ton...
I'll also pay attention to the Red Sox because of the family connection...I like that they added Joel Hanrahan...But as some one who kinda got hooked on the Pirates last year, that sucks for Pittsburgh...Also NESN always have hot chicks covering the Sox....
There's the former NESN chick Heidi Watney getting put in her place by the latest NESN hottie, Jenny Dell and her huge creamers! Which would you take?
This year, I'm focused on two teams...Both from the same area...The Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Nationals...I really want to see if the Orioles can build on what they did last year...But I'm not waiting for April...The Nationals are my team this year...That Harper kid is good, and he's a cocky prick...I like that! Strasburg is a beast, and I'd love to see what he'll do with a full season...They've got a solid staff, and balanced lineup...Screw it...I'm signing a 2 year deal with the Nats!
And I'm not waiting for after the draft or free agency with Football...I have no faith in the Browns, and even if they land some big free agents, which is tough to do here, It will still take time, especially with the hellish QB situation this team has constantly been in...I'm all in with the Seattle Seahawks...Pete Carroll is a douche, but that's a hell of a team they've got going there...Plus, as much as a dick as Richard Sherman seems to be, I love that told off Skip Bayless last week...You can see that HERE...
- Saturday I posted some WISDOM from Bill Burr...The guy kills me...Just hilarious...There was another clip I was watching, and planning on posting...Then it was suggested to me to check it out by a facebook friend...Great minds right! So here's Bill on Gold Diggin' Whores...
Classic Bill Burr!
- I rarely talk Basketball, mainly because I don't watch it...There is nothing I like about the NBA...But I'm going to talk a bit of Basketball this week...Why? Because at one time I use to think Jason Whitlock was a good columnist...Now, after some of the shit he has written and tweeted over the last couple years, I realize he's almost as big of an ass-hat as Rick Reilly...This week Whitlock wrote a column stating that the entire NBA is afraid of LeBron James...REALLY? Why the hell would other elite NBA players be afraid of LeBron...This guy isn't the living legend that Whitlock and dolts at ESPN try to make him out to be...He's only has one NBA title...1...
Whitlock goes on to say that James and Dwayne Wade are the best duo the NBA has seen..."We’ve never seen anything like the pairing of James and Dwyane Wade. Two superstars playing at this level of efficiency, shooting over 50 percent from the field. They invented and perfected the three-quarter-court, alley-oop outlet pass. They popularized the chase-down, hear-my-footsteps blocked shot at the rim. They’re lethal at both ends of the court. James and Wade are 94 feet of hell. It might take a fluke or an injury to stop the Heat’s winning streak."
I'm not an expert on basketball, but this guy is nuts...Why doesn't he just give them credit for inventing the game...This shit is retarded...They've got one title together...They haven't proven shit yet...With age, Whitlock gets more and more full of shit!
Plus if you believe any bit of what Cleveland sports talk radio says, LeBron wants to come back to Cleveland to end his career...The rumors say he isn't happy in Miami...How much of that is true, I don't know...I know he crew isn't getting their asses kissed and put on the team payroll like they did here....Even worse is how many people would welcome him back with open arms...After all that hate...After feeling so screwed, they'd welcome him back...These are the same people who will never forgive Art Modell for moving HIS team...Gotta love the fucking Cleve!
In closing...Fuck LeBron James...Fuck Jason Whitlock....Cleveland is a bitch, but the Weather has been better then most places...Jenny Dell has great cans...Bill Burr rules...Go Nationals!
The past season was memorable for NFL fans and participants alike. The kiddie quarterback trend expanded. So did the run-option trend. The officials' strike made headlines but had little other significant bearing in the end --- the regulars proved just as bad, if more suave. Love him or hate him, Ray Lewis retired a winner. And, for the first time, brothers faced off in the Super Bowl as head coaches.
Those brothers both headmanned strong contenders. John Harbaugh's Ravens began the season looking like a sure bye. Jim Harbaugh's Niners looked to be a shoo-in for the NFCW. But the most stunning similarity between the two, other than their conference-champion status and their well-matched genes, was that both made stunningly risky moves on teams that seemed playoff bound already. But most failed to see the method in the madness --- the moves were both aligned with taking advantage of the fluctuating rule book and its striped disciples.
The Niners were doing fine when suddenly Alex Smith lost his job due to a brief injury. His coach made the extremely controversial decision to switch quarterbacks in November. That switch was aimed straight at the rule book. The rise of the untouchable quarterback has opened the door for scramblers. They don't have to be great field generals (though it helps), but if they can run and maintain the common sense to either stick to the sidelines or slide, there's really no way to stop them. Whether that state of affairs remains will, of course, be dictated by money. If the RG3 disasters proliferate, something will happen unless the NFL decides that the era of disposable quarterbacks is at hand. But, however that all works out, credit Harbaugh with exploiting the current trend in timely fashion.
Back in Baltimore the Ravens, still leading the AFCN, had hit a slump. John Harbaugh shockingly fired respected OC Cam Cameron (in December!) and promoted Jim Caldwell, whose resume seemed to read "cheerleader for Peyton Manning". Again, the results were spectacular as Joe Flacco proceeded to showcase offensive brilliance not seen before from him and to revive his team just in time for a playoff hot streak that culminated in a ring. There was a rules-based method to this madness too. Pass interference was becoming too much of a factor with such as Peyton Manning able to draw flags almost at will, and it was calling the credibility of too many games into question. In apparent response, the NFL moved away from it on both offense and defense. The result was a bonanza for large and powerful receivers who could muscle their way open without fear of drawing a flag. Caldwell's new offense was predicated on taking advantage of the situation, and the Ravens had guys who could execute the plan. It worked.
Each brother made a bold (and cold) midseason move that brought tepid support at best from many experts, and each pulled it off. Each case turned out to be a business decision made with foresight. Mark that as another item in the list of memorable happenings for 2012, perhaps in retrospect the most significant and unique one. How often are teams that change coaching staffs in December or quarterbacks in November rewarded with a Super Bowl berth? How about both?
Probably about as often as a jump-ball offense wins a title. The confluence of rare events occurred because in each case it meant exploiting rule changes better than anyone else. In reality, Harbaughs don't rule. Cold hatchet-man tactics don't rule. The rules rule. Nothing new there.
It’s Thursday again here at the Gab, time flies when your having fun or when your extremely busy. It was a crazy weekend between Hockey and Basketball. We had senior night Friday where the 8th graders compete in various basketball skills, Sunday it was as we refer to it Super Sunday where the Championship game is played for each grade level starting with first and second grade girls at 8:30 am and ending around 6Pm with the 7 and 8th grade Boys Championship. It’s a long day but a fun town event. There is about 1,000 kids in the program.
Here it comes the NHL Update
This says it all about the NHL of late
NFL
A few weeks ago Tom Brady restructured his contract to create cap space.for the Patriots which works out to be 7.2 million. Many here believe he did this so the Patriots retain Wes Welker. I think if Welker tests the free agent market he will be gone. Of course this will allow the Patriots to go get a big receiver a Randy Moss type tall and quick. Of course I have a feeling a deal with Welker is in place or nearly in place. However Welker has had some grumbles some justifiable some not but according to afew news outlets he has got beyond the fact that he didn’t start opening day and only caught 5 passes that day. It isn’t clear if his grip is with Bellichick or Josh Mcdanniels.
Brady’s restructuring probably pissed a few people off in the union and no doubt a few agents as well. Brady is doing for the team. He has more money then he will ever need and I believe he married money as well.
That all being said I know Joe Flacco isn’t the most popular Quarterback but does anybody really blame the guy for taking the money he got in his new contract. I guess especially in Football guys have to make it when they can and as much as they can. If somebody is willing to pay , can’t blame a guy fo taking the cash. If the guy doesn’t live up to expectations is it his fault or the guy that over paid him. Maybe the guy had one good season and the GM or the Owner thought he would be a good fix. The guy doesn’t work well in that system or the good year was a fuke. Who knows but I just can’t get on a player in any sport for making huge money.
It’s Conference Tourney time and my Northeastern Huskies are the number one seed in the CAA. If they win the CAA they get a tourney bid they may sneak in anyway.I usually look forward to the Big East Tourney. This year I’m really looking at the Big Ten. The games have been unbelievable.
Lil Warriors Update.
The boys lost 3-1 on Saturday but we were down 3 players. They were in basketball semi finals. That ended a 4 game winning streak. The guys had chances and should have walked out with a 1-1 tie. The second goal the ref blow the whistle when Jake our goalie rolled to get up the puck was a cross the line it was called a goal. Not sure but I think Jake moved the puck when he got up and the play should have been dead. The third goal was a fluke we scored on ourselves. Kid tried to backhand it out and it the post of the net and bounced in.Their season was supposed to end Saturday but the league just added 5 more games in March.
Lil Lanz has a big mouth, he went into the locker room Saturday saying he was going to the Hockey East Game between BU and Vermont. It was suppose to be just me and him everybody else was busy. IT ended up myself and the two other coaches brought our sons and another kid on the team to the game. We had a blast. It was really funny between periods one of the teams we played a few times played a mini game. Our guys were like why aren’t we out there. The second place Warriors play the first place team this week. Who we are 0-1-1 against. The boys at practice last night want this.
