Heads are rolling in the NFL, Ryan saved by the owner, the Little General sacked for a loss, this and more in this weeks edition of….

I want to with all the Gabers and their families a Happy and Healthy New Year, from the ScottJax family.

It is tough being a coach for an NBA team in New York. With a record of 14-14, and coach of the month in November, the Brooklyn Nets fired Avery Johnson.

Did he get a fire chance, probably not. But when a star player, Devon Williams, is turning the coach off you know who has to go. Plus, the Nets are a far better team than their record indicates.

P.J. Carlesimo looks like he is going to get the chance to coach even though the rumor mill is swirling about Phil Jackson.

Former Detroit Lion offensive tackle, and current ESPN NFL analysis Lomas Brown, confessed during a radio interview, that he purposely missed a block, on Packers defensive end Sean Jones, so Jones could hurt Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell. Jones did hit Mitchell, and during the play the Lions quarterback broke his finger. He also is justifying it now by saying he was in something like 18,000 plays and he did one stupid thing so its okay. Well its not.

It’s ironic that Lomas would come out and say something like this because he is suing the NFL because he says the NFL didn’t do enough to protect players from concussions, yet he allowed an opponent to take an injury-causing free shot at a teammate, is bullshit.

Scott Mitchell stated “It just really hurt. It was extremely disappointing. I’m really shocked by it, to be honest. Here’s a guy I’ve had in my house, I had a big dinner for the offensive linemen every year, he came to my house and ate dinner, I gave my offensive linemen gifts every year. For him to do that is just reprehensible, beyond words. It’s really disappointing, it really is painful. When you mess with my family, mess with my livelihood, mess with my health, it’s unacceptable. It’s B.S. I just wouldn’t do it to a teammate. I wouldn’t do it. If Lomas has a problem with me, come talk to me. To try to get someone hurt, it’s just mind-boggling.”

Mitchell ended up missing the rest of the season due to the injury to his finger. But it could have been a lot worse of an injury and then what would have Lomas thought about that?

The axe has fallen on the following NFL General Manager’s:

Yea!!! The Jacksonville Jaguars did something right this year. Owner Shahid Khan fired General Manager Gene Smith. It’s enough we had to go through a 2-14 season this year, but since he has been GM no Jaguar he has drafted made the pro-bowl (I don’t count special teams). Smith had been with Jacksonville since it was awarded a franchise in 1993 (first season was in 1995). Bad draft picks (Britton, Alualu, and Gabbert) and worse free agent signings (Torry Holt, Aaron Kampman and Laurent Robinson) did Smith in.

After reaching the AFC Championship in 2009 and 2010 its been nothing but downhill for the Jets. So after seven years, and a 57-55 record, Mike Tannenbaum was shown the door. Tennenbaum was the mastermind behind the Tim Tebow disaster.

Cleveland Browns GM, Tom Heckert was let go. While Tom did change the Browns from an aging team to a young team, the new owner of the Browns, Jimmy Haslam, and new CEO Joe Banner, decided to go clean house and pick their own GM. Heckert did leave the new GM with RB Trent Richardson, QB Brandon Weeden, WR Josh Gordon and OT Mitchell Schwartz.

AJ Smith also bit the turf as San Diego let him go. It doesn’t help when you haven’t made the playoffs the last three years. Plus the talent has dropped, and maybe the trade for Philip Rivers isn’t working out the way it was meant to be (Manning 2 Super Bowls).

Arizona Cardinal fired Rod Graves. The Cardinals have a promising defense but he can’t seem to pick a quarterback. Kelvin Kolb, who Arizona went after big time, wasn’t the answer, at least not this year.

The following NFL coaches have been fired:

There have been times during the past couple of seasons where I thought Andy Reid was just burnt out. But after his speech he gave after he was let go, he seem full of pep and energy, kind of like relieved so-to-speak. Reid is the all-time wins leader with a record of 130-93-1 in 14 seasons with the Eagles. He also won six division titles, lost one Super Bowl and played in four NFC Championship games.

In a somewhat of a shocker, considering he went 10-6, the Bears fired Lovie Smith. In 8 seasons he was 81-63 and won the 2006 NFC Championship. The Bears had a stellar defensive, but it was their offense that was, well, offensive to say the least. And it was the offensive that let Lovie down and out the door he went.

It wasn’t a surprise that Romeo Crennel was let go by the Kansas City Chiefs. They finished last in the NFL with a 2-14 record (28-55 in five seasons). You can’t entirely put the blame on Romeo as the team was on a roller coaster of a season, beset by injuries, stupid mistakes and the off the field tragedy when Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and then committing suicide.

Chan Gailey was ousted as coach of the Buffalo Bills, and that might be a good thing. He was 16-32 in three seasons with the Bills. Their was a lot of reasons why Chan was let go, not using C.J. Spiller properly until it was too late to salvage their season, a bad defensive, and Ryan Fitzpatrick's inconsistency all spelled doom for Gailey.

One coach who is breathing a sigh of relief is Browns coach Pat Shurmur who was let go after a 5-11 season. Pat was 9-23 in two seasons with the team. The Browns have only been in the playoffs once since they returned as an expansion in 1999, Whoever takes the job must be aware that there is a curse somewhere in Cleveland.

After missing the playoffs for three years, the Chargers fired Norv Turner. Norv guided San Diego to a 55-40 record in seven seasons. See A.J. Smith above.

After spending 6 years with the Cardinals, Ken Whisenhunt was let go after finishing 5-11 and 45-51 during his time with the team. Ken did take the Cardinals to the Super Bowl in 2008 and was the teams all-time wins leader. But the team was doing well until quarterback Kevin Kolb went down and the team just wasn’t the same.

How the hell did Rex “Bozo The Clown” Ryan manage to keep his job???

Congrats to Louisville in beating the Florida Gators. It was quite at work as all the Gator fans had nothing to talk about. Jacksonville gave the Cardinals no chance what-so-ever.

Til Next Time

Scott

More Hard Knocks For Jets?
Category: NFL
Tags: HBO Hard Knocks NY Jets Antonio Cromartie Rex Ryan

While you know who talks about why he doesn’t think he’ll ever be an NFL starting QB his new team, the New York Jets quite possibly are looking at a second straight season of HBO’s Hard Knocks. As Jets owner Woody Johnson put it, “we had a formal invitation that we can respond too, not an informal one”.

Now it’s wasn’t the spectacular coverage of a bunch of brainiacs that is getting them a second nod, we all know what’s going on here. We’ve all had our fair share of Rex Ryan and since he’s never seen a microphone or a camera he didn’t like we don’t need a 5 episode show to get his opinion on anything to do with football, snack food or feet for that matter. It’s about TEBOW and how he’ll overshadow Mark Sanchez at camp regardless of the role he’ll actually play on this team. I think we can all agree Mark Sanchez is about as mediocre a QB as you can have and adding Tebow to the mix gives the Jets another mediocre option, but what I really want to know is, WHY in the world would a team that is coming off the season they just did want this type of distraction at camp? For a team that just finished an awful year I’d think the most important thing on their minds would be righting the ship that clearly sank and fell apart while doing so, on and off the field.

But this is the Jets, and it’s New York and yes Rex Ryan will undoubtedly have a lot to say about whether this happens or not and for that reason alone I believe if he ok’s this again he will demonstrate just how piss poor he is when it comes to doing what’s best for the team he coaches. Anyone dealing with the woes the Jets did this past season would have to be out of their fucking mind to allow camera crews follow their every move while attempting to regain a playoff caliber team. When cameras are rolling there’s a lot of horse play, everyone mugs for their few minutes of face time and of course we get gems like this:

If the Jets aren’t interested in putting last season behind them and focusing on nothing but football then just remember where you read it when they don’t make the playoffs or choke because it’ll all come down to what their priorities were, show time rather than to show up for football season prepared.

Now that says Merry Christmas! And I need to something like that...This is the part of Christmas I hate...It's over...All the planning, and all the work...The cooking...Then poof, it's over...Christmas night I'll be up late watching "Christmas Vacation" and any other Christmas movie that's on late...Just trying to hang on a little longer...I love this time of year...I wish we all could remember to be this caring and family friendly, all year around...But sadly, for many people, they need this December reminder...

We had fun, although Mrs. Beeze started getting sick Friday night...She felt lousy, but she made it through...But after our Christmas Eve party, she crashed early...The Santa duties were all on me...Holy shit these kids are spoiled!

Yeah, That's just what the mighty Santa did...Earlier Christmas Eve they were hooked up by their grandparents, and uncles...

The Little Beeze was up at 5:30 AM...We made him go back to bed and wait until 7:00...At 7:00AM exactly he waking up the house...By 7:30AM everything was unwrapped. He was thrilled with all the loot he got...He's always happy when he gets gifts, but this year we nailed it...It was great...His older sister was thrilled too...She didn't get the big money item she wanted from Santa, but she never mentioned it...She was really happy with what she got, and seems to be trying to hold on to the myth...Maybe just for us...

Then there was the baby...She isn't much for opening gifts yet...Christmas Eve she was over-joyed with a card...Walking around the house, waving it around, babbling with a smile on her face...Christmas morning she was a bit overwhelmed by it all...Up earlier then she wanted, and the chaos, and the extra people and noise was getting to her...She was digging this dog my wife got her...It laughs and keeps rolling over, back and forth...It cracked her up, but added to my Christmas Ale headache...

By at 8:30 I sent the wife back to bed, and got Molly down for a nap...After her nap she still didn't want to deal with this Christmas stuff...She kept going to the basement steps...So we went down there...Away from all the Christmas stuff, and away from everyone...She had a blast, just doing her thing, with the stuff she knew...

Later in the day I took the kids to my parents fro dinner, and more noise and chaos...We only stayed a couple hours...The baby wanted out, and I understand why...Back at home we watched the final showing of "A Christmas Story"...Kids had their baths, and crashed...With all the chaos, and a sick wife, it was still a great Christmas.

-Now that I covered that...How about some football...SHOCKING NEWS!!! The Browns lost Saturday to the Ravens! To be honest, I didn't even watch...I did see a bit of the Jets vs. Giants...Holy shit, can we all agree that Mark Sanchez is one of the worst QB's in the NFL...What an overrated, cunt...Just like his overrated coach, and overrated team...Just a whole room full of overrated cunts! After the Giants win, Brandon Jacobs let the world know what he thought of stupid Rex Ryan...

It's about time some one got in front of a camera and microphone, and said what we all think!

Hey, did you see what happened to the Broncos and Saint Tebow...They got their asses rolled for the second week in a row...All that Tebow hype is starting to quiet down, now that he teams Defense is getting schooled...Oh, and he's not that good of a QB!

Adrian Peterson's knee was destroyed Saturday...It's said he tore the ACL, and there seems to be trouble withe MCL...I guess he won't be the #1 fantasy pick next year!

-Now, I'm a huge Hockey fan...For those of you who may not be, if you want a good inside look into Hockey, and a great rivalry...Check out HBO's "24/7 Flyer/Rangers Road to the Winter Classic"...It's a great behind the scenes look at Hockey, players on and off the ice, coaches, and the build up for one of the NHL's biggest draws...

And before I go, I'm going to leave you with a Christmas Song...It's not a classic...It's different...And I kind of like it, although it use to annoy me...Give it a try...

Merry Christmas...Have a week...

Later, The Beeze.

NFL Teams Sift Through Long List Of Parolees And Degenerates For Talent
Category: FEATURED
Tags: Ohio State University NCAA NFL Plaxico Burress Terrelle Pryor 2012 NFL Draft Free Agency Michael Vick Rex Ryan New York Giants Prison

Even though NFL teams are supposed to be largely inactive during the lockout, they still keep abreast of news that is filled with football players being arrested, released from jail, or carrying the weight of questionable character in their pasts.

As soon as the lockout ends, most of these players will be invited into a training camp somewhere. The hope is to try and squeeze one drama free season out of them, as well as production on the gridiron.

While the list may get longer with oft-troubled wide receiver Kenny Britt, there are still plenty of specimens to choose from.

Over the next few weeks, we will profile a few that is followed by their possible destinations whenever the NFL resumes play.

PLAXICO BURRESS

He will be 34-years old if the NFL has a 2011 season. He just got released from jail after having served two years incarcerated on weapons charges.

Burress might take awhile to get into shape physically and mentally, an area he has mostly struggled in throughout his career, but the wide receiver still stands 6'5" and weighs at least 232 lbs. He has experience on winning teams and owns a Super Bowl ring.

Though the team he last played for, the New York Giants, has never said he wasn't welcome back, it looks more unlikely these days because that team is loaded with young receivers full of talent.

With 505 receptions since being drafted in 2000, it is obvious he had many productive seasons. Teams will gamble he has a few left until Father Time steps in.

There will be a pretty long line of suitors, especially since Burress is expected to be on his best behavior to avoid returning to prison.

Here are a few teams that may be the best fit for him :

Carolina Panthers

Why Carolina? Simple. It is not that far from his family and friends in southern Virginia and the Panthers wouldn't mind seeing him and veteran Steve Smith help 2011 top draft pick Cam Newton.

Smith has not had help since Muhsin Muhammad retired several years ago, and he has battled injuries the past few seasons. Having the large Burress opposite the diminutive Smith might be appealing for both the Panthers and Newton.

Philadelphia Eagles

The rich get richer? It is possible, especially with fellow ex-convict Michael Vick pleading with the front office to sign him. Vick is now the Eagles starting quarterback, so carrying such weight could impact this move.

Having DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin at wide receiver already, Philadelphia already has one of the top duos in the league. That is even before tight end Brent Celek is added into the mix.

Burress would give the Eagles that tall wide receiver, since Maclin is six-foot tall and Jackson stands somewhere around 5'10" and weighs maybe 175 lbs. Though Maclin and Jackson are huge threats, Burress would immediately become the teams top red-zone option.

Plus having Vick play catch with Burress would remind fans of the movie "The Longest Yard". Who can resist that?

Saint Louis Rams

Yes, the Rams have young receivers like Donnie Avery, Austin Pettis, Marty Gilyard, and Greg Salas for sophomore quarterback Sam Bradford to chuck it to. Free agents Danny Amendola, Mark Clayton, and Laurent Robinson might have a shot of returning as well.

Yet most of these receivers are small in stature. Getting Bradford, the 2010 Offensive Rookie of the Year, a tall target could help a lot. Critics believe Burress will only go to a team with a chance to win their division, something the Rams almost pulled off last year.

Burress could get them over a tiny hump that exists in the weak NFC West. It could also help buy some time as their young receivers develop.

Then there is the fact that Burress probably will not get in trouble in Saint Louis, as the team seems to never have players in trouble with the law in that city.

Washington Redskins

A long shot, but Burress did grow up in Norfolk, Virginia. The Redskins have also been searching for a tall receiver since Hall of Famer Art Monk left after 1993.

The team might not be ready to compete for the NFC East, so Washington might have little shot at Burress even if they are interested and have an owner known for paying heavily for veteran free agents.

Even if Burress grew up a Redskins fan, which so many young men in Virginia have.

Oakland Raiders

Get ready to see this team listed often. Raiders Hall of Fame owner Al Davis loves to take chances on players with questionable character, something he has come out smelling like a rose more often than not.

The current group of Raiders receivers could certainly use a boost in talent as well. There are a lot of speedsters, but none are the hulking presence that Burress is.

New York Jets

Why? Head coach Rex Ryan plays by his own rules and will do what is needed to get his team to the Super Bowl.

Starting receivers Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes are free agents that may be the Jets top priority, but Burress would help whether both are signed or not. Plus Burress lives in New Jersey, so he wouldn't have to uproot his family that has been reacquainting themselves with him lately.

TERRELLE PRYOR

Then there is the plight of Pryor. The 6'6" quarterback recently withdrew from college and there is speculation he will try his hand at professional football this year.

Regardless of whatever charges Ohio State or Pryor may face down the road from NCAA rules infractions, the size and athleticism will have a team intrigued enough to look at him.

He is a project with suspect mechanics that will take time to refine. Murmurs of his lack of character will be put through a test if he wants to get to the next level. A team will have to be patient, as Pryor will need to be as well.

He has already rejected the advances of the Canadian Football League, even though the wide open CFL game may be the best fit for his game right now. The UFL may be an option to play a game similar to the NFL while learning his position more.

Though there are certainly no guarantees he could earn a starting job in the UFL, some speculate Pryor will sit this season out and put is name into the 2012 NFL Draft. Then there is a chance he is involved in a supplemental draft or try to latch onto a team via free agency.

Assuming he is allowed to sign with any team as a free agent, the questions begs on who would give him a shot.

Here are a few possibilities :

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals quarterback situation is still up in the air because no one knows where starter Carson Palmer will play when play resumes. Palmer has made it quite clear he has no intention returning to Cincinnati.

The cerebral Andy Dalton was drafted in 2011, but he has questionable arm strength and athleticism. If Palmer leaves, the current quarterbacks on the Bengals roster is Dalton and the untested Dan LeFevour.

Even if the Bengals re-sign Jordan Palmer, Carson's little brother, they will then have three quarterbacks with no real NFL experience.

If Carson Palmer comes back to the Bengals, taking a flier on Pryor certainly could not hurt. The worst that can happen is they cut him, while the best scenario is that one day Pryor marries his abilities with the mechanics he will soon be taught.

Oakland Raiders

Again, Al Davis loves outcasts. He also loves excellent athletes. Pryor is certainly both right now.

He could put Pryor at third-string to learn behind veterans Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski as Oakland takes their time learning what type of player Pryor will eventually be.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pryor grew up not too far away from Pittsburgh and the Steelers do like to mold a young quarterback as a third-string player. Ask Dennis Dixon, a player no one wanted because of an injury in college during his senior year. Dixon, now a free agent, started a few games and earned a Super Bowl ring.

Men like Jim Miller started out in Pittsburgh before becoming productive starters elsewhere. With veteran Brian Leftwich as the primary reserve. maybe molding Pryor will more of an attractive scenario than bringing back Dixon?

Arizona Cardinals

John Skelton showed promise in his 2010 rookie year, as did Max Hall, but it still is unknown if either can hold onto the starting job at quarterback. Derek Anderson's confidence appears shot as well.

This could be one of the few NFL teams Pryor has a shot at starting right away. Especially if Skelton and Hall play poorly. Arizona appears to be a team Carson Palmer may want to go to.

The Cardinals also may be one of the teams willing to spend a few years developing Pryor, so this could be a good fit. Especially if Pryor becomes the player some think he can be.

Next week, we will look at a few crazy old farts who still think their shit doesn't stink and the NFL is obliged to give them a roster spot and fat paycheck.
