NASCAR Update And Other Fast Stuff

Howdy, Good Morning and Good Day. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR update and other fast stuff. Besides all the Super Bowl stuff like Jell-O serving chocolate pudding to the loosing teams fans and Ray Ray possibly sprouting antlers by game time there are some other things going on. I am crossing my fingers for Ray Ray and those antlers.

It was the day for PA's prognosticating rodents to go toe to toe on their predictions. Punxsutawney Phil and Octorara Orphie did their duty early Saturday morning and in the frozen 12 degree air. Gus the Pennsylvania Lottery scratch off groundhog was no where to be found. Most likely he was still sleeping hugging his scratch off winning tickets and under a nice warm and cozy blanket.

Phil decided it was going to be an early spring. Orphie said 6 more weeks of winter. They were opposites last year too. But it's not the prediction that counts. It's the festivities surrounding the prediction. Each lodge has groundhog jigs, cannon firings, parades, breakfast and just a big get together for everyone filled with all sorts of shenanigans. Phil had 30,000 show up the first Groundhog day after the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray came out.

Phil is a live animal where Orphie has been taxidermied. Both have been around prognosticating for over 100 years. Phil started in 1887 and Orphie in 1908. Phil's lodge members wear top hats and tux's. Orphie's wear top hats and lab coats. Supposedly Phil has lived so long because they give him a shot of magic elixir that gives him long life. Apparently they didn't share it with Orphie.

The legend goes that if the groundhog pops up out of his den and sees his shadow it's 6 more weeks of winter. If he sees no shadow then spring is right around the corner. I believe everything I read on the internet.....Bon jour...

Fastnacht is German and means fast night. Fastnachts are yeast donuts that are usually made with potatoes. The idea behind Fastnacht Day is to rid your pantry of all the things you will be abstaining from for Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday. So we use up all the sugar, lard, butter, yeast and fats so that we can start fresh and new after Lent is over.

When making these donuts they've heavy. You don't even have to turn them over in the deep fryer because the doughy side is heavier than the side that's done. They flip themselves.

Traditionally they're served plain, powered or regular sugared. You dip them in molasses. But in this day and age people take traditions and twist them up. They're now made with creme fillings, jelly fillings, icing on top and glazed.

I'm a traditionalist. Gimme the plain with some molasses for dipping. AND of course a cup of coffee. New Orleans has Mardi Gras, beads and Kings Cake. Central PA has Fat Tuesday, fastnachts and Groundhog Day. So on Feb 5th I'll dunk one for all of you.

Yup. On February 16th will be the Sprint Unlimited. A Saturday race where the fans can go to NASCAR.com and vote. They'll be voting on number of laps per segment, pit stop requirements, number of cars to be eliminated after the 2nd segment and what fire suit Miss Sprint Cup will wear in Victory Lane. So if you care what she wears or.....doesn't wear, you best go vote.

On Thursday afternoon when I'M AT WORK, the Budweiser duels will take place. These 2 races are short but help to seal up the starting positions for the Daytona 500. I'm still confused on the new qualifying rules. It's qualify or go home this year. No top 35 in points gets a guaranteed spot any more. But Daytona is always different in qualifying and I'm just not sure what is going on with that this year.

On February 22nd @ 8:30 pm it's the truck race. I plan on watching that on race buddy if NASCAR.com still has that going on. If not I can always keep my parents awake by going over there to scream at the TV. WOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!

On Sunday February 24th @ 1 pm is the DAYTONA 500. The Zac Brown Band will be the pre race entertainment. Well, one of the many pre race spectacles. Hope they don't have to delay the race this year like they did for Kevin Harvick when the parachute dude landed way too close to his car and the weight on the line with the American flag hit the car. Big aerodynamic sapping dent in the side of the car had to be fixed. What they won't do to entertain the fans.

Daytona has been working on replacing some of the seats that have been there since the place opened. They want to add more seats on the front stretch, add more guest suites, modernize the concessions and redesign the exterior and interior. Couldn't find any pictures or detailed explanations on what's been done so far. You'd think their official web site would be bragging about it.

So the question remains....Should Daytona or should I say the owners of the Daytona track get a tax break? The Dolphin owners are already included on the legislative proposal. What say you Gabbers? Don't even ask me cause I'll go into my gimme a discounted ticket because my tax dollars bought your stadium rant. And we don't want that.

Tyler Walker and his girlfriend were arrested in Utah on Wednesday Jon 30th after a high speed chase across 3 states. He started out in Nevada when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding. He drove on into Arizona and was finally stopped in 6 miles into Utah when they threw out nail strips to blow out his tires.

After they arrested Tyler and his girlfriend they of course searched the car finding alcohol, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Apparently we aren't so good at road course racing? Just an observation. Another thing. If your in a high speed chase (and you know the cops will get you)....why aren't you throwing the illegals out the window? Just a thought.

Any way, these 2 will be charged in all 3 states for the hot pursuit, drugs, drug paraphernalia, DUI and a whole laundry list of other charges....TIMES 3!!!!! I hope it was worth the ride.

Tyler had a promising career in NASCAR. PROMISING and HAD being the key words. He drove 19 Nationwide races and 9 truck races for Bill Davis Racing. Things were going great till he failed his drug test. He now or should I say was driving winged sprint cars. I'm not sure about recently.

Last year there was an ugly incident at Maple Grove when in a qualifying heat he fouled out and went into a verbal tirade in the pits. You can see that one on You Tube along with another one where he flips out leaving a night club. I tried to post his NASCAR photo and his now photo but they just wouldn't. Dude looks like a dead man walking. Sad to see another young life going down the tubes.

How do you not appreciate and try to grow an opportunity like that? How do you throw it away? We have this guy snorting his opportunity up his nose. We have Titus Young acting like a child and being disruptive. He's daring them to dump him. What is up with our kids?

So any way, I've rambled enough. It's Sunday. SUPER BOWL SUNDAY. Can't say whether I'll be watching or not. I know I won't be rooting for any one. I have 2 guys left in my fantasy league. Gore and Crabtree. I'm still working on my NHL fantasy league. So much to ponder.

You all have a great game. Hope your snacks are all lined up and ready to go. Those of you in the north east, just don't go out. I don't need one of those V8 snow blowers you guys up north of me have but it's fffffffffffffff- ricking cold right now and just enough snow to make a mess. I'm off to breakfast. Enjoy your day and......

I'm outta here.....

The Miz will be starring in the next Marine movie. The lead role was originally going to Randy Orton. He was removed from the role because he received a bad conduct discharge in 1999 after going AWOL on two separate occasions and disobeying an order from a Commanding Officer. Orton was court-martialed and served 38 days in a military prison.

As you know by now the Bella twins have been fired by EVE during Monday Night Raw last week. The company used that angle because the twins did not renew their contract with the WWE.

John Cena is getting a divorce from his high school sweet heart Liz Huberdeau She has hired the same lawyer that Linda Hogan used and if you remember Linda got almost 70% of what Hogan had..

Mark Henry is having surgery done.

Scott Steiner continues to attach, via twitter, Hogan and Bischoff.

Big Show fired from the WWE??

Was it a shock to see Paul Heyman show up on Raw?

Here is a trivia question:

Which President of the United States was a wrestler??

Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling is a privately held professional wrestling promotion founded by Jeff and Jerry Jarrett. In 2002, Panda Energy International purchased a controlling share in TNA, with Dixie Carter becoming the President of the company.

TNA headquarters is located in Nashville, Tennessee; its trading company, TNA Entertainment, LLC. Operates out of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, where the company has its weekly wrestling events. It does, on occasion go to other cities throughout the United States and selected overseas countries.

TNA broadcasts its events on television, with its primary television program, Impact Wrestling on Spike TV, and on the internet, fifty-two weeks a year, with approximately 1,100,000 weekly viewers.

TNA gains its revenues from live events, pay-per-views, product licensing, and direct product sales.

Shortly after the end of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), in 2001, Bob Ryder, Jeff Jarrett and Jerry Jarrett went on a fishing trip with the purpose of deciding their futures in the wrestling business. At the time, The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) remained at the time as the only wrestling product on the U.S. national television since the WWF had just purchased WCW in March of 2001, and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2001. Ryder felt that it would be better to have a wrestling company go straight to pay-per-view rather than on television. Jeff Jarrett took this discussion seriously while the other two thought of it as “just fish talk.”

Jeff Jarrett, with the help of his father, Jerry, found the financial help they need with HealthSouth Corporation, and the company put on its first show on June 19, 2002.

The show, under NWA Total Nonstop Action did not go well. In a dark match just before they went on the air, a 450-pound wrestler named Cheex hit the ropes with so much force that one section of the ropes collapsed. The estimated time to repair was 30-60 minutes, which they did not have because they were scheduled to live, on pay-per-view, in a few minutes, whether the ring was ready or not. The producers shuffled the schedule so that some non-wrestling segments went first to give the ring crew some more time, but they didn’t have a lot of crew members. The ring crew fixed the rope with the help of wrestlers Ron and Don Harris, and they went live.

In 2002, the president of Monterey Peninsula Talent contacted Dixie Carter and informed her that NWA Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, required a marketing and publicity outlet. Carter then began working for TNA. Two months later, she was informed by Jeff Jarrett that HealthSouth Corporation was having financial problems and had withdrawn support of TNA, and that the wrestling company was in trouble.

Carter, seeing “the potential in a marketplace that had only one company with a $900 million dollar operation and no competitor”, contacted her parents, who are the owners of Panda Energy International, a Dallas-based energy company. In October 2002, Panda Energy purchased 71% of TNA from HealthSouth Corporation for $250,000. On October 31, 2002, TNA was renamed TNA Entertainment with Dixie Carter as President.

NWA Total Nonstop Wrestling was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). TNA was granted exclusive rights to both the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship. TNA left the NWA in 2004, but was permitted to continue the use of the championships until the NWA canceled their contract agreement with TBA in May of 2007, after which TNA created its own championship titles.

TNA started showing their show as a weekly pay-per-view. The shows started on June 19, 2002 and were held mostly at the Asylum in Nashville, Tennessee. After 27 months and 111 PPV’s under their belt, TNA felt that they had enough of a fan base to begin holding a weekly television show and monthly three-hour pay-per-views. The last weekly PPV was held on September 8, 2004.

Wrestlers who starred for the company were in its infancy were, A.J Styles, K-Krush (R-Truth), Hermie Sadler (yep the NASCAR driver), Jerry Lynn, Samoa Joe and Sabu,

The first match of TNA history was Jerry Lynn versus AJ Styles.

Initially all of TNA’s shows were syndicated and distributed to various television stations throughout the United States. TNA Xplosion was launched on November 27, 2002 as the companies first regular cable show and featured exclusive matches from the TNA Asylum as well as exclusive interviews with TNA Superstars. On June 4, 2004, TNA began airing TNA Impact! On Fox Sports Net.

With moving over to Fox Sports Net, TNA moved their wrestling operations to Universal Studios, Soundstage 21, in May 2004. Since then most of their wrestling is originated from here. TNA also has approximately 98 shows outside of Orlando, Fl in the United States and Overseas.

On November 18, 2004, TNA Xplosion became a recap show of the previous week’s Impact!. Xplosion resumed airing exclusive matches, billed as “Xplosion Xclusives, starting on October 7, 2005, in addition to recapping Impact! Fox Sports Net did not renew its one-year contract with TNA, and the company was forced to broadcast Impact! From their official website, while seeking a new television deal. Spike TV came to the rescue as they secured a deal with TNA, and aired its first episode on October 1, 2005. At the end of 2006 Xplosion stopped airing shows in the United States, while still producing shows for overseas markets. Impact! Expanded to a two-hour format on October 4, 2007. On October 28, 2008, TNA made the transition to high definition on all its television and pay-per-view shows. On February 15, 2010, TNA reached a new deal with Spike TV which moved Impact! To Monday nights. The first episode took place March 8, 2010, and with the help of Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and other former WWE Superstars, achieved its highest viewership ever, with over 2,200,000 viewing the show. Not bad, considering it went up against a live WWE Monday Night Raw. What help TNA was its started Impact! At 8pm where-as Monday Raw started at 9PM. Ratings went down for Impact! After its first Monday showing, so on May 30, 2010, TNA announced that Impact! Will be moved back to Thursday nights and re-branded TNA Thursdays. On May 3, 2011, TNA Impact! Was re-branded Impact Wrestling. TNA is broadcast in more than 120 countries all over the world.

On July 2, 2010, TNA set an attendance record of 5,500 fans at MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, minor league team of the New York Mets.

On November 7, 2011, TNA reached a deal with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) to become TNA’s official training and development territory.

TNA Wrestlers are forbidden by contract from working for WWE, but are free to perform non-televised work for any other independent wrestling promotions, domestic or international. Many TNA wrestlers perform regularly for various independent wrestling circuits in addition to TNA’s weekly show. TNA wrestlers are independent contractors and are not entitled to form workers’ unions or employer health coverage.

The following is what originally made TNA unique:

It was the first American wrestling company to make exclusive use of a hexagonal wrestling ring, as opposed to the more conventional square ring. It was different and it made it more interesting because a wrestler can come at you from different, non-traditional, angles.

It’s X Division featured high-flying, high risk style of wrestling. TNA decided to emphasize high risk nature of the moves that wrestlers performed, removing all restraints on its wrestlers, allowing them to perform almost any stunt like wrestling moves. Even though the X Division was generally created for its cruiserweight wrestlers, some heavyweights like Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe and Abyss wrestled in the X Division occasionally.

The company also employed the unconventional rule that a championship can change hands as the result of a disqualification or count out.

These all changed with the arrival of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff to the TNA scene, as they took a more active role in how the organization was to be run. Dixie still ran the company, but Hogan and Bischoff “had her ear.” Wrestling, in TNA, changed to be more in-line with the conventional way the way of wrestling.
