One year ago ScottJax went under the knife, ScottJax’s favorite song, NFL, Rays, Walker and more in this week edition of….

Let’s never forget what happened on September 11, 2001

Wow, today marks the one year anniversary of my hip replacement surgery. There are days that I walk fast, and there are days that I start off good and as the night progresses at work I start to slow down. My surgeon did not want me to do heavy lifting. But, in the Postal world you are suppose to be able to lift up to 75 pounds. In my 15 years in the Post Office I have never had to lift that much. But lifting 20 pounds can be a chore, not the least is the wear and tear of the hip. Still no running and hopping. That is to prevent strain on the hip. Bending down is better, though sometimes it takes a minute to get down and get up. But I don’t feel anywhere near the pain and discomfort I use to and that is good. The only bad thing is that I will need another hip replacement for my other hip. I am trying to hold off for four more years.
For a person who is a very upbeat person this is one of my favorite songs..
The Fighting Irish are going to join the ACC in every sport except football, yet they plan on playing 5 ACC football games a year. So are you in, or are you out of the ACC for football? It seems to me your all-in, except you don’t want to give out any of your $$$ your making from NBC.
The Tampa Bay Rays played the Yankees at home with a chance to surpass the first place team, yet only 28,585, 17,652 and 16,711 attended. MLB should consider moving the Rays.
Tulane’s Safety Devon Walker is in stable condition following an operation to repair a cervical spine fraction. The injury occurred during Saturday’s game against Tulsa, in a head-on collision with his teammate. See the video above.
Some NFL milestones were reached this past Sunday. Tom Brady is now in 5th place on the all-time career touchdown list with 302. Brady also is in 5th place in wins by a quarterback with 125. Peyton Manning threw is 400th and 401st touchdown pass, and is in third place. Bill Belichick recorded his 193rd victory, which outs him in a tie for 8th place on the all-time list with Chuck Knox.
Props got to go to RG3, as he led the Washington Redskins to an upset win over the New Orleans Saints, 40-32.
There is now talk that replacement refs will be around to at least week 5 of the NFL season.
David Aker’s kicked a record tying 63-yard field goal. Take a look at the expression on his face when he made it. Classic.
Andy Murray is the first British tennis player in 76 years to win a Grand Slam tournament.
Good-by to Andy Roddick, who retired after his match at the US Open. He won over $20 million during his 12-year career. He won 32 singles titles and 4 double titles and was 609-212 in career singles matches. His only draw-back was for as much talent as he had he only one 1 Grand Slam event and was the runner-up in four others (losing to Federer each time).
Is USC in trouble? Syracuse raked up 450 yards on offensive against the #2 team in the nation. Again, with all the offense Cuse racked up, they still lost, 42-29. Come to think of it the Orange had more total offense than the Trojans 455-445. Wow who would have thought that?? Syracuse is now 0-2.
Next up for Cuse, Stoney Brook.

Jerry “The King” Lawler is in ICU following a heart attack on Monday Night Raw. His son say he doesn’t look too well. There is talk that Lawler might have suffered brain damage. This is speculation due to the lack of oxygen that went to the brain following his collapse.
Is MLB babying its pitchers? It seems to me that no pitcher comes close to 275 innings, let alone 300 innings, which use to be the standard. It looks like maybe 3 pitchers will pitch 250 innings.

Til Next time

Little E wins it and Hoodwood is happy for him!
Greetings from the Hoodwood, where your humble scribe is enjoying the summer and the company of Princess Katie.
Not Guilty! Clemens beats the rap
Now if there was anyone who should have been shouting miscarriage of justice it should be the ones who like me were convinced that Roger Clemens was going to get the gate after allegedly lying to Congress in the wake of the steroid hearings in Congress. But what do you know; Clemens was acquitted on all six counts of perjury. I still think that his more or less clean image and fan friendly fireballer carried a lot of weight; he will get a lot more benefit of the doubt than Barry Bonds will ever get. Bonds deserved reputation of a surly moody enigma of a superstar didn’t get him totally off, he caught one case of obstruction of justice and is still awaiting sentencing on that charge, but one has to wonder if these charges will keep Clemens and Bonds outside the gates of Cooperstown.
Perfection! Another No-no
After Matt Cain struck out 14 en route to throwing the 22nd perfect game in MLB history and the 2nd this season, not to mention this is the 5th no-hitter this season (2 AL 2 NL , one interleague) people are starting to wonder openly is this a year of the pitcher? Trust and believe that this won’t be a repeat of 1968 where the batting champ in the AL will bat .301 and one in every five games is a shutout. You don’t see complete games as much as you did back in the day. James Shields led the AL with 11 complete games, but considering that was the most in four years and that no one has more than 20 complete games in better than a quarter century, the no hit feats are more an anomaly than a worrisome trend. Pitchers are balancing out the offensive trend that was so dominant in the 90s and early 2000s. You won’t see a 60 home run hitter any time soon.
Is this finally LeBron’s year?
When LeBron James and the Miami Heat vanquished the Boston Celtics in 7 games many thought they would be too spent to give the young hungry Oklahoma City Thunder any more than cursory resistance, but it seems that the Heat have taken the fight to OKC winning a pair of tight games to take a 2-1 lead. Now your humble scribe is sticking by his pick of the Thunder winning it in 6 games, but the Heat has me seriously worried. James has a look about him almost like a dude I used to watch in the 90s, it seems like the Heat are following his no time for bullshit play. James is playing with almost an anger about him and the Heat are riding his angry play to wins and are getting closer to a title that wonks like Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd are having nightmares about. If LeBron wins this title he would have legitimately carried the Heat to the title and the wonks would have nothing left to say…but I’m hoping that Kevin Durant steals his…ummm…Thunder and OKC wins the title. Not to give the braying wonks more fuel but to keep others from getting the idea of combining players to get a title.
NFL: Is Goodell running a kangaroo court?
Monday suspended Saints LB Jonathan Vilma stalked out of the appeals hearing on his yearlong suspension. Vilma who has maintained his innocence throughout thinks that the appeals hearing which is being run by the same person who handed out the suspension, one Roger Goodell, is a sham. I tend to agree with him. Now it is no secret that I’m no Goodell fan. I think he’s sneaky, egotistical and that he is the NFL. One time Saints defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams has been suspended indefinitely for organizing a “bounty system” to take out other players and Vilma was purported to be the leader of the players making the hits. Vilma has argued that he can’t get a fair shake with Goodell as a judge, jury and executioner, and he won’t.
PHAT DAP/HEAD SLAP
Phat Dap
Phat Dap to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Little broke a 143 race winless streak with a rousing win at Michigan Sunday, doubly sweet that it was on Father’s Day. Little E won by nearly 5.5 seconds over Tony Stewart and ironically won four years to day of his last win in the same place, Michigan Speedway. Hoodwood isn’t a big NASCAR town but there has always been a soft spot for Earnhardt Jr.
Head Slap
To Argentinean tennis player David Nalbandian whose temper tantrum cost him quite a bit. Nalbandian was mad at losing a game point in the finals of the Queen’s Club tournament, a warm up tourney ahead of Wimbledon next month and kicked an advertising board.
The kick shattered the board under the chair of line judge Andrew McDougall, and left him with a gashed shin. Nalbandian was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct and had to forfeit the match and championship to Marin Cillic. Nalbandian not forfeited his prize money about $57,000 but was also fined $12,500. Nalbandian was apologetic saying in a statement that he "ashamed and sorry for the kick that unintentionally hurt the line umpire." But his actions now have him under investigation by English police for assault. See what a bad temper gets you?
Ill add more as the day goes…more about the retirement of LT. Until Next Post Fellow Sports Fans!

All Hail the Kings! 2012 Stanley Cup Champs
Greetings from the Hoodwood, where the locals are celebrating the return of Princess Katie. No one is more happier about that than Princess Jasmyne.

Princess Katie visits me every summer from Arizona, (She will be a junior in high school this fall) her little sister absolutely adores her...
NHL: The Kings are Kings of Hockey
After racing out to a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that the Kings would win the Cup, but a couple wins by a gutty Devils team had some pundits saying that they could be only the second team to blow a 3-0 Finals lead. But when the Devils took a silly boarding major in the 1st and the Kings cashed in 3 times on the power play, it was all over but the coronation. The Kings cruised to a 6-1 win and a lot of rarities occured with the win. Jonathan Quick was the spot on lock for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP becoming only the 3rd American to win the award. Dustin Brown became only the 2nd American born captain to hoist the Cup. LA will never be mistaken for a hockey hotbed, but their loyal contingent of long suffering fans have finally got the holy grail of hockey. My favorite image was the NBC shot of the little boy holding the sign saying " My Daddy waited 44 years to see this, Im 1 for 1" All the bearded players hoisting the cup is always the most amusing thing to me and reminds me when the Wings won the cup in 2008, I was made immediately to shave my beard by the girl I was dating who could never understand why I was growing a thick beard in June.
NBA: Finally the Finals
The basketball world gets another week or so to snipe at Lebron James. I think that his performance in the Eastern Conference Finals especially the last two games were about as big money as you could ever hope for. He scored 25 points or better in each of the seven games. He didn’t average 25 ppg he scored 25 or more in each of the 7 games. The only other players to have done that were Kareem for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 74 Finals and Elgin Baylor for the Lakers in the 62 Finals. Keep in mind that neither one of those teams won their series, so Lebron is not only in high company, he led his team to the series win.
The NBA may not have its big markets for the Finals but OKC and South Beach are decent sized markets. The Thunder has a home court advantage support that is getting near feared status. Chesapeake Energy Arena gets and stays loud, as the poor (lol) San Antonio Spurs who came in with a 2-0 series lead and left tied, seriously questioning their cajones. After the Thunder won a taut game 5 in San Antonio, the Spurs looked like a team headed for the gallows. I know, I know they raced out to a huge first half lead but the Thunder had a look like “We got this, man” The rolled right Spurs right out of the building in the 2nd half and left some to wonder if the salad days are over in Spursland. The West might be going through OKC for a minute.
Anyway, lets look at the matchup between the teams and what I think of them
2012 NBA Finals
Best of 7 Series (2-3-2) all games on ABC at 9p except Games 3 and if needed 6 which are 8p games
Miami Heat (46-20) vs Oklahoma City Thunder (47-19)
How They Got here
Western Conference Champion Oklahoma City Thunder
Coach Scott Brooks 4th Season (174-125 regular season, 197-140 overall)
2012 Northwest Division Champions #2 Western Conference Seed
Defeated #7 Seed Dallas 4-0
Defeated #3 Los Angeles Lakers 4-1
Defeated #1 Seed San Antonio 4-2
Leading Scorer Kevin Durant 28.0 ppg (Led NBA)
Fast Fact: Defeating the Mavericks (2006 & 2011) The Lakers (2000-2002. 2004, 2008-2010) and Spurs 1999, 2003, 2005, & 2007) the Thunder beat each of the three teams to have represented the Western Conference in the Finals since 1999
Previous Finals appearances in 1978 runner up, 1979 Champions & 1996 runner up as the Seattle Supersonics
The Thunder are the fast riser in the NBA, where many looked to Chicago as the team poised to take the next step the Thunder have made the bold statement with its youthful core that plays so much older than they are. Of course this team flows from the dynamic yet low key superstar Durant. He is the type of franchise player that everyone thought he would be coming out of Texas. His well rounded game makes him a matchup nightmare. But you miss the essence of the team by just thinking of Durant. High speed guard Russell Westbrook is a scorer in his own right and James Harden is the reigning 6th man of the year. This is a talented and deep team
Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat
Coach Erik Spolestra 4th Season (194-118 regular season, 224-129 overall)
2012 Southeast Division Champion #2 Eastern Conference Seed
Defeated #7 New York 4 games to 1
Defeated #3 Indiana 4-2
Defeated #4 Boston 4-3
Leading Scorer: Lebron James 27.1 ppg
Previous Finals 2006 Champions, 2011
Fast Fact: LeBron James leads the NBA in playoff scoring at 30.8 ppg, his scoring average has increased in each round 27.6, 30.0 and 33.6 in the respective rounds.
Love em or hate em, the Miami Heat are never boring. Teetering on the brink of playoff doom in the last two rounds the Heat ripped off three straight wins in the conference semis then won a crucial road game 6 against the Celtics behind a staggering 45 point performance by James then pulled away to win a penultimate 7th game on Saturday. The Heat are led by the iconoclastic James and the often mercurial Dwayne Wade who has been battling injuries on the quiet to keep the Heat chugging toward what they feel in their manifest destiny. The return of swingman Chris Bosh have given them a dynamic extra scoring punch and enough of a versatile scoring threat with range to keep a big man otherwise occupied.
How it shapes up
This will not be a slow motion series. Both teams are high energy and can run. Durant and James are scorers of the first rank. The key will be the health of Wade if he is able to carry his part the Heat have a edge. If Chris Bosh puts up points and keeps Serge Ibaka honest the Heat have an even decided edge. But if Wade is still fighting these nagging injuries and Russell Westbrook repeatedly abuses him, and James Harden gives him no rest coming off the bench. The Thunder make this a fairly even series. Many pundits knock James and say he lacks a clutch gene. I think the basketball gods will make the King stew at least one more year. The Thunder play the Heat to a draw through the 1st four games then Durant wins a thriller in game 5 and finish it out in OKC on a Sunday night. Spolestra will have to pay the piper for back to back Finals losses with his job. Thunder in 6
Boxing: Pacquiao got the shaft
Im no Manny Pacquiao fan, I think hes ducking Floyd Mayweather and a fight that could be the biggest of the past 25-30 years. But I think the Pac Man got the shaft as he outboxed a so-called unbeaten fighter in Timothy Bradley yet lost a split decision on Saturday. The numbers say that Pacquiao hit Bradley more. Compubox has him with a 253-159 overall punch edge and a 190-109 power punch edge. Pac Man landed more punches in 10 of 12 rounds. That’s not an opinion, Those are the raw numbers. So what the fuck did two of the three judges see Saturday night? I had the fight 119-109 in favor of Pac Man, AP had it 117-111. He wobbled Bradley twice early and seemed to be in control of the fight till late. Bradley made a nice charge but never hurt Pacquiao. What were these guys thinking? Bradley even looked and sounded like he got something that he didn’t deserve in the post fight presser. Promoter Bob Arum tried to sound outraged but he got exactly what he wanted. Controversy and a rematch, anything to avoid the now jailed Mayweather. When Pac Man beats the crap out of this palooka in November they will talk of a third fight to settle it and Money will have to continue to wait.
Phat Dap/Head Slap
Phat Dap
Phat Dap to Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova. Nadal won his 7th French Open a mens record Monday beating Novak Djokovic in a rain delayed finale. Sharapova completed a career grand slam on Saturday whipping Sara Errani in straight sets Saturday. These are two of the worlds best and they proved it on the unforgiving clay courts of Roland Garros this weekend. A dap and best wishes to Greg Willard the long time NBA ref who was supposed to work the game 6 of the Western Finals but was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The refs working the Finals will be wearing a #57 patch in his honor. Hoodwood sends its best and prays that Willard will take the fight to the cancer.
Head Slap
To Hoodwood’s least favorite wonk Skip Bayless who still refuses to give James any kind of dap or credit for leading the Heat back to the Finals. Bayless has repeatedly bashed James and says that he is not a clutch player. He pooh-poohed his 45 point performance in game 6 of the Eastern Finals and openly doubted that he could carry the Heat to a win in game 7. When proven wrong for the umpteenth time (how does this numbnuts stay on the air?) He suddenly became a honk for “his” Thunder, wasn’t this the same jackass that was saying that “his Spurs” would teach the still too young Thunder a lesson? Someone put a sock in this dipshits mouth…I so want Stephen A Smith to beat his ass on live TV one day.
Thats all from the Hoodwood, Until Next Post Fellow Sports Fans!

Mmmm...Yeah, I don't follow Tennis...I did when I was a kid, and I use to like to play, but that was a long time ago...But Saturday morning I was laying in bed, flipping around on the TV, and I saw Maria Sharapova playing at The French Open...If you don't know, every time she swings her racket, she lets out a powerful, grunt, groan, or even scream...
Hot chick, skimpy outfit, making those noises...What better way to kill time than leave this on the tube, and tug on my cock for a few minutes!?!
Then the idiot commentators (two women, one man) start bitching about her noises...Like it's something new...Even a casual fan like me knows how noisy this bitch is...And shit, Tennis should be pushing women to play like this...Wear less, and make hot noises... Ratings would be up...At least among male viewers...
-Moving on...This past week Little Beeze's Baseball practices started...If you've followed this blog, you know I've coached his Tee-Ball teams the last two years...Now we are in 7-8 year old Coach Pitch...(They added in a few 9 year old girls because they didn't have enough sign up for 9-10 girls softball)
The first year the guy that was suppose to be coaching with me, bailed...Dropped his kid off and left...Fucking douchebag...The next year, one of the girls mom signed up to help...But she was also coaching her other daughter's team, so she was in and out, and it was mostly on me...But that was okay with me, at least she was trying, and trying with two kids...Better then the first year...
So then this year I find out at the coaches meeting, that they have paired me up with another dad...And he was actually at the meeting...But it was clear he didn't want to be there, and he quickly passed off everything to me, knowing I has been in the program for a couple years...
So Tuesday was the first practice, and this shit-dick and his kid don't show up...Here we go again...Thursday we have our second practice, and he shows...I re-introduce myself, tell him what we did Tuesday, and what I was planning on for that day...All he says is, "Okay." Nothing else...I get the kids on the field to get started, including getting his kid right into the mix, and he's not around...He's over in the bleachers shooting the shit with some other douchebags...The whole practice he's MIA...Looks like I've got another fucking asshole...
I could use some help with this team...There are a couple boys along with Little Beeze who are good...And my one 9 year old girl is going to be a beast...But then there are a few kids who have barely played, including a couple who didn't do Tee-Ball at all...3 of my 7 year olds, are very young 7 year olds...And one girl's parents are both Mentally Handicapped...Is that the nice way to say retarded these days...She isn't, but it's clear that she's been held back by them...This is her first time in an activity like this...So already I have had to put in a good amount of time with just her...But in two practices, she's throwing well, and is starting to catch the ball...And once she made contact swinging the bat, she didn't want to stop...
That shit makes me feel so good about this damn, "not keeping score" program, and this other douchebag doesn't get it all, and doesn't want to get it...The thought of kicking him in the dick next time a see him has crossed my mind a few times...Hopefully things go well this week...
-This weekend the kids and I were all about hitting some parks...Saturday I took Molly and Little Beeze to one of our favorites...Here they are catching a view of the lake...

Then Sunday morning I took all 3 kids further west, to a really cool park...Lots of stuff for them to do...Molls rocked the swings for awhile, and then got into a community sand pit and got some digging done...They all had fun...Here's the boy rocking his new hair-cut he got just an hour before we hit the park...

He's been asking for a Mohawk for 2 years, and even though Mom was against it, I let him go for it...Now he's ready for a big Baseball season!
Now the last thing I want to talk about is the media...The mainstream, U.S. media to be exact...All week long, during every nightly news cast...And on every major media outlet, they all keep talking about Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee...Ummm, I'm sorry, I thought I lived in the United States of America...Why the fuck are you ass-hats covering this bullshit!?!
Look at this...This picture shows all the territories that are or were under British rule at one time...

Yes, my ancestors are from Ireland, so right out of the gate, I hate the royal family...But shit, I'm an American...Born in America...That pesky country that fought the British for our independence...So why the fuck is our media so fucking in love with these people...Most of the land the Royal Family owns, they stole...Rape, Pillage and Plunder was their business...So again, Why is the U.S. media so fucking in love with these dolts...
I don't give a shit how old that bag is...Or how long she has been a figure head for that Island...She comes from a long line of assholes, and I'm sure she's an asshole too...Her country is in the same economic shitter that we are, yet they are throwing an insane amount of money around to celebrate the fact that this bitch just won't die...
NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CNN, and all you other idiot media outlets wasting any time covering this shit, need to wake the fuck up, and realize that there is more important "NEWS" to cover...Oh, and that old bag isn't our Queen, because we called bullshit on that shit along time ago...The Queen, and her whole shitty family, along with you media ass-hats, can all kiss my American Ass!
Have a week...
Later, The Beeze.

Gotta love the gigantic flags on display at the various venues Sunday...this one in Washington
Greetings from the Hoodwood, where the patriotism isn’t limited to one or two day out of the the year!
Lots to discuss this week, then I got to get to work on the picks which will be seen on Friday. But first our national anthem. Hats off, please!
Few people can belt it out like Jim Cornelison, he and Wayne Messmer have done some of the most inspirational anthems that I have ever heard. Ok now lets chat
NFL Showshockers
Leave it to the NFL to turn out a few games that no one saw coming. You are damned liar if you said you saw Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing 4 TD’s against the Chiefs in Arrowhead. Its been decades since Ive seen Arrowhead that quiet. I think most everyone saw the Texans beating the Colts but could a team look so fucking bad getting its ass beat like the Colts did. Gary Kubiak obviously called the dogs off in the second half, cause they could have hung fifty on the hapless Colts. Never has a team needed one player for its psyche more than the Colts need Peyton Manning. The thing that irritates me the most watching that game is being reminded that Kerry Collins had the game of his life against my beloved Vikings in the 2000 NFC title game and has been little more than the vice president of the bum of the month QB club. (Rex Grossman is the president, but more on him in a minute) Collins looked old and slow and if the Colts want to have any kind of chance at being a contender they have to right the ship and fast.
The Ravens and Steelers were supposed to be in a slugfest, problem is the Ravens did all the slugging. It has been a long time since I’ve seen the Steelers so punked out . I was quite annoyed though at listening to Mike & Mike this morning chide the Ravens for running up the score, warning that the Steelers would remember that and it could come back to bite them. What a crock of bullshit. Teams like the Cowboys and Steelers give off this “Be afraid of us” aura and when they run up the score and whomp on hapless opponents, its expected and they lord it out loud how “dominant” that they are. But when they get took back of the woodshed, the wonks cluck their tongues and whine that teams are running up the score and that they should have some respect. No one says shit when the Steelers are running up 51-0 scores or when the Pokes are winning 44-14. If they can dish it out, law of averages will come back around.
The Bengals were supposed to be the punch line to the start of a promising Browns season but instead turned the joke on the Browns by rallying to beat the Browns. Andy Dalton may not survive the season but what he showed early may give Bengal fans some hope.
But the real showshocking rookie was Cam Newton who acted a damn fool in his debut 421 yards 2 TD’s in the air and one rushing. He made some grown ass man throws on Sunday. I was shocked to say the least. He’s still got some awful mechanics and he made some ill-timed throws but Carolina had to be happy with their first pick. Newton is showing a lot of promise. On other side of the field Kevin Kolb made a strong debut for the Cards, their offense will have no trouble scoring points but their defense is paper thin. They were able to get away with it because the Panthers are still well the Panthers. But they wont get away playing defense like they did for very long. I knocked Rex Grossman but he was quite respectable in the Redskins upset of the Giants…and yes that was an upset. The Giants should be ashamed, they were favored to win easily and Eli Manning just stunk it up. Im still annoyed that I thought the Eli was ready to make a name for himself and be the Manning who was winning games that they were supposed to win, instead he looked so much like the lost little boy making dumb throws. The Giants are in real danger of fading away from the collective consciousness of the New York football fan. Speaking of New York…
The overratedness of Romo…
Ive been called a hater, but Im just don’t buy into the collective thought of Tony Romo being anymore than a so-so QB. Yeah, yeah I know he had a monster 2007 throwing for over 4200 yards and 36 TD’s and a monster 2009 with over 4400 yards and yeah I know his 95.6 QB rating is outta sight. But he’s no winner. The man-gina that is Colin Cowherd has an unabashed bromance/man-crush on Romo and vociferously defends him. I think of him as a poor mans Eli Manning, Manning at least has a Super Bowl ring and has won big games. More often than not, Manning will make the dumb head scratcher throw. Romo is the same way but without the backing pedigree of big wins. His interception late in Sunday’s loss to the Jets left many asking “Why???” Romo is living in the large shadow of Troy Aikman, someone Ive never been a fan of but was someone who more often than not could be counted on in the clutch. I cant say that about Tony Romo, gaudy numbers or not, he has not proved to be an elite QB to me. People keep trying to make excuses for him, but the fact remains that he’s not a young buck QB anymore. At 31, he has had too many excuses made for him and why he cant get over the hump as an elite QB. Look at the tape, would Rodgers, Brees or Brady made that dumb throw? I doubt it. Come on you Romo boosters defend your man and his lack of game. I double dog dare you.
Speaking of overrated…Notre Dame’s nightmare
I am not shy about my loathing of Notre Dame and its coach Brian Kelly. Yes, I am bitter that he jilted my alma mater before the biggest game in school history for that self-righteous group of fakes in South Bend. I wont apologize for being gleeful at the fact the Notre Dame is not only 0-2, but blew a 24-7 lead to Michigan and lost 35-31 before a record crowd at the first night kickoff at the Big House. Do I feel sorry for Kelly? Hell, no. He gets what he deserves and the uppity Irish fans who acted insulted that they weren’t a top ten team are now in real danger of being 0-5. They get Michigan State who are a lot better than when they pulled the okey-doke on the Irish last year to knock them off in OT. They then go to Pitt and Purdue before getting a lollipop game against Air Force. If you thought BK’s head was going to pop like an overripe melon in the first two weeks, how do you think he will be if the Irish are 1-4 or 0-5? Notre Dame fans are fickle and will turn fast. Ask Fat Charlie who went from a step from sainthood to finding For Sale signs in his front yard outside of two years. BK will find how easy he had it in Cincinnati real fast and Im enjoying every minute of it.
I Don’t Hate but…that song gets on my nerves
I made a roadie over the weekend to see my alma mater play at Tennessee and for a brief moment, it looked as if my beloved Bearcats were going to stand toe to toe with the Volunteers and slug it out. The jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead behind an electrifying run by Isaiah Pead and despite being caught asleep at the switch on an onside kick after the Vols first touchdown, were very much in the game having rallied smartly to knot the score at 14 at the end of the first. Unfortunately the Vols did most of the punching in the 2ndand 3rdquarters and the Bearcats fell 45-23. Tyler Bray shredded the Cats for 405 yards passing and the Vols outscored the Cats 31-9 in the final 3 quarters. The thing that I expected but didn’t figure it would irritate me as much was the almost continous playing of Rocky Top. I mean geez they play that fucking song at every turn. I’ve been to Neyland Stadium for a few games and know that Rocky Top is the schools fight song, but I guess I blocked it out most of the time for the other games cause it seemed like it was on a continual loop. If anyone plays that song anywhere in my vicinity they might get cut…
MLB’s suddenly frantic races
In cities like Detroit, Philly, Phoenix and Milwaukee they are marking time till they book playoff spots. Though the Brewers are quietly hoping this last charge by the Cards is more bothersome for the Braves in the wild card race than for a NL Central pennant. There are some still tight races. In the AL West the Angels are trying to stay within arms length of the defending AL champ Rangers. They want to make that last three game series in Anaheim be a winner take all showdown for the division crown. Meanwhile the Yankees are trying to shake the Red Sox and Rays, the latter just coming on relentlessly enough to make the Red Sox panic. You usually see Sox Nation panic when they play the Yanks but the Rays have pushed them hard enough where a playoff berth is no longer the foregone conclusion that it was six weeks ago. And don’t think that the Bombers are secretly hoping that the Rays not the Sox get the Wild Card so that they can avoid their nemesis who has owned has a decided 11-4 on them and get the Rays who they have played more evenly this season going 6-5 and having 7 more games to play them. The Red Sox are clearly panicking as they see the Yanks pull away from them and the Rays creep closer. The margin is 3 ½ on both sides. This will be an interesting 3 weeks to be sure
Phat Dap/ Head Slap
Phat Dap
Dap to Alan Moore who kicked an extra point for NAIA Faulker’s 41-19 win over Ave Maria. This wasn’t just some pimply faced walk on living a dream. Moore is a 61 year old grandfather of five. Here’s a real old schooler for you, he made his kick straight on not soccer style which is the norm nowadays. Moore is the oldest player to not only get into a college game but score. The Vietnam vet actually played for Jones College in Mississippi in 1968 before joining the Army. He served his country then worked in construction before retiring in 2009. He decided to try his hand at kicking after watching his alma mater play last year. Hats off to an old vet still making good kicks.
Head Slap
Head slap goes to Serena Williams, not for her straight set loss to heretofore unknown Samantha Stosur of Australia in the US Open final Sunday but for her needless tantrum at chair ref Eva Asderaki who cited Williams for a code violation during the early part of the match with Stosur. After ripping what she thought was a winner and yelling “Come on!” to herself, Asderaki awarded Stosur the point ruling that she was reaching for a backhand shot and was distracted. Now was the call a bit suspect? Yes, but Williams melted down, yelling at the chair and throwing insults at Asderaki calling her a hater and telling her to “Don’t look at me.” Now this wasn’t on the level of Williams’ tantrum in the 2009 US Open where she blistered a line judge with a profanity laced tirade after being called for a foot fault in her loss to Kim Clijsters. She got docked $82K for that. Instead she got a minor $2K fine for this outburst. I understand being intense and wanting to win, but Serena just looked like a sore loser. Though it was early in the match, it was clear that the call bothered her enough to rattle her off her game and give the unheralded Stosur enough of an edge to win her first major, something that deserves dap in itself. Serena should know better and really made an ass of herself…no pun intended.
And Finally your Bandits Football Update!
The Chocolate City Bandits got their 2 time GMFL title defense off and winging with a 114-64 win over the Tourch. Tourch head coach Montez Watson openly bragged that there was a new sheriff in town and the Bandits wer e yesterdays news, but behind 41 points from Drew Bledsoe and 25 points from Kenny Britt, the Bandits were never threatened. “Guess it’s the same old bad guys in Black, beating the pants off the pretenders…old news”
The Butler County Bandits were defeated by Team Butters 81-57 as Wess Welker had 25 points. The Bandits will hopefully bounce back in the HHFL.
As stated earlier, the weeks picks will be posted on Friday and hopefully will be better than last week…until next post fellow sports fans!
