One Nail in the Coffin......
Posted by storminnorman on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 6:30:30 PM

As most of you know that read my blogs, I am a loyal Detroit sports fan sometimes to a fault. But after last night's 4-1 loss to the Black Hawks, I have not given up but know who is the better team. The first period of the game was pretty even, and I can only imagine what Joel Quennville said to his team during the intermission. After whatever was said, the Black Hawks came out and proved to me without any doubt they are the better team.

The Red Wings had their chances, despite Chicago's suffocating attack which left the Wings trapped in their zone facing shot after shot for what seemed like an endless amount of time. The Black Hawks out shot the Red Wings 35-14 after the first period, and admittedly the score could have been worse if not for goaltender Jimmy Howard making save after save, until he allowed the second Hawks goal.

The only goal I did not understand was the third goal, when Howard appeared to intentionally knock the puck off the net which led to the puck going in the net for a 3-1 lead. What the hell was he thinking, if he would have froze the puck on the back of the net, covered it with his stick he would have gotten a whistle almost instantly. But instead, he knocks if off the net and the Black Hawks burn him seconds later.

I am tired of the announcers making excuses for the Red Wings game after game, it has gotten very old hearing they were tired from playing Game 7 in Anaheim. Why can't they just say the Red Wings are rebuilding, which for the most part is the truth. There is a lot of youth on both defense and offense, and one day they will be a Stanley Cup contender again just not this year. Even a person with no knowledge of the game itself, knows that replacing the pieces to their Stanley Cups was and is going to take some time We as fans miss Lidstrom and Holmstrom, and knew they would be difficult to replace. I almost feel sorry for the organization, because they have not clue to what they are getting themselves into next year moving to the much bigger Eastern Conference. In turn the streak may end next year, regardless just as simply put as that.....

I am not looking forward to Saturday afternoon's game, even though history suggests the Wings will play much better than they did Wednesday night..

Is This the End? 5-12-13
Posted by storminnorman on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 5:00:00 PM

Is this the end of the line for the Detroit Red Wings and their 22-year playoff run, I think so. I am a loyal Red Wing fan, but with the change to the Eastern Conference scheduled to take place during the 2013-14 season, and their lack of team size in my opinion in just may happen unless they take a different direction and add some size to their lineup. I mean come on, how many times can this team be punished by teams with a huge size difference for which they will face on a nightly basis.

Let's be serious here for a moment, seeing teams like the Bruins 5 to 6 times a year will not be good for the smaller Wings unless they make changes and add size and even more toughness than Jordin Tootoo and Justin Abdelkader provide. But we will see what direction the Wings head after the playoffs are over, these changes are necessary in order for them to compete in the East, and has to happen during this offseason.

Is this the answer to the Detroit Lions problems as a team, I highly doubt it. Honestly I believe Martin Mayhew missed the boat again when he drafted him number 5. I personally believed they should have drafted a tackle to replace Jeff Backus who retired during the offseason. But this is typical Lions draft strategy since the Matt Millen era, draft a project (Charles Rogers, Titus Young) and pray that they work out. When they don't they release them in order to save face. I am not knocking their entire draft, but there were a lot better players out there that were ready to play this year, not two years down the road. I guess its time for the Lions to find a real general manager, who will draft to the needs of the team, and break the draft day trend. Oh wait I forgot, that is why they are the only Detroit team that I have never seen win a championship during my near 49 years on this earth. Why is this, because they do not have a clue!

Well I have to admit that this weekends series against the Indians has been rather interesting, and not the walkover I thought it would be. Nice to see that Tito, Nick and all the other additions are starting to pay off for the Indians. If this trend continues like it should, because those I mentioned will not let the others quit, then the Central Division might stay interesting this year.

Thanks for stopping by, and I will see you the next time.

Hello Gabbers, its been a while since we have chatted last hope everything has been going well for you and the teams that you follow. I found out while I was away that people can be ignorant at best, in how they handle situations and if things keep going the way they are I will be divorced by the end of the summer. But on to the things at hand, I have something sports related issues that I want to get off my chest, I am going to start with a little issue related to baseball that I got into a discussion with a friend of mine at work today.

Craig and I were sitting in the break room eating lunch and shooting the shit about our fantasy teams like we always do, when he brought up J.A. Happ taking one of the side of his head last night, thank God he is alright, a cut and a bruise at best, no concussion. Anyway, Craig brought up instant replay and how he thought it should be used in baseball, and if they had a more broader use of instant replay they could have overruled Jim Joyce's blown call that cost Armando Gallaraga his perfect game and more or less ruin his major league career from that point on. My argument is this: in baseball its used exclusively for home run calls which I understand, because after all you are expecting old men with poor vision to make a judgment call from 200 feet or more away which can be rather difficult at times which is fine with me. I mentioned hockey's use of replay for goal scoring only more or less, the puck travels at 100+ miles per hour for which it can be in and out before the referee and goal judge see it, so I can live with that. What do you guys think?

How many of you Bruins fans are getting a chuckle out of the Ottawa-Montreal series, with the Sen's leading it 3-1 going into Game 5? I know I am, somebody should have told the Penguins and Canadians that the Islanders and Senators were going to show up, and play them tough. What a bunch of dumbasses if they thought those two teams were just going to roll over and let them win. Also who would have thought the Canucks would go down in 4 to the Sharks, wouldn't be surprised to see the coach and a lot of player turn over this summer in Vancouver. Sorry Beeze, the Rangers-Capitals series means nothing to me right now, have not watched enough of that one to form an opinion.

If you can't tell I really could care less about the NBA playoffs, for whatever reason I am not interested what-so-ever. I have watched about 5 minutes of the playoffs because I am more interested in watching the NHL and the Tigers.  I know most of all the Astros were glad to see them leave Houston last weekend, getting swept and nearly no-hit by Verlander on Sunday.....

Which NBC dumbass decided to pull the plug on Faith Hill? She was sometimes better than the football game they would show on Sunday night. Oh yes and finally, a little something for the Beeze.....

Finally this one is for Sully, I want to thank him for inviting me to take Old Harry's place this week while he is visiting with his daughter. Hope you have a great time with her Harry as she is home on leave from the Marines. I wish her well, and hope she remains safe as she serves for our country.....

This may even get Old Harry's blood flowing, along with a few others who are from that area. May everyone remain safe, until we meet again.........

Just a little Shout Out to My Friends.....
Posted by storminnorman on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7:39:20 PM

Hello Gabbers been a while since I have been here, been trying to get myself better after my surgery which is has been a struggle just as Sully had mentioned to me before I had it done. I have been taking it easy watching football both college and pro, and thank God it is just about over because I am completely burned out from watching so much of it. I am not going to waste time finding fancy pictures of anything in particular, just trying to get a few things that have been on my mind off my chest. Some of it might be kind of old news, but I just added my new laptop today and wanted to take it for a test spin. Go figure, now I cannot start a new paragraph so please bare with me as I rant.....#1: What the hell happened to Notre Dame in the BCS game Beeze, they got their asses handed to them by the Tide. So much for all the talk about preparation time for that game by both sides, they could have played that game tomorrow with the same results. #2: How the hell could the writers not vote anyone into the Hall of Fame? I loved watching Biggio, and at least he should have gotten in. But I guess the writers had a point to prove this year, fucking assmunches couldn't even vote Jack into the Hall. #3: Who do the owners and players think they are trying to fool with this last minute resolution the the NHL lockout? Do they think they got away with it? I will go watch the Pistons before I drive down to the Joe to watch the Wings. I hope others feel the same, because maybe it will teach these pompous asses a lesson about respecting we the fan and not their wallets, but I doubt it. #4: AND PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS PERSONALLY Red Sox nation, but you still only have 2 decent pitchers in your starting rotation in Dempster and Lester. I am not taking anything away from Clay, but all I have heard on MLB is how good they will be this year. What you planning on doing this year, winning a bunch of 15-14 games this year? #5: and once again please do not take it personally, but I see the Ravens winning on Sunday along with yes I hate to admit it the 49ers. I am a Tom Brady fan, but I believe the Ravens as a team are destined to go this year, they should have never won that game in Denver it seemed their destiny......I have followed the Patriots since Brady left Michigan and became Quarterback, I hope I am wrong but I do not think I will be....#6: I have had it up to my ears with the BCS and their current bull-shit way of deciding who plays in the National Championship. Notre Dame deserved to be in the National Championship game, even though they got their asses handed to them by Bama. I had a problem with Bama being picked to play them, you could tell that the polls were set up for them to make it back after their loss to A & M, and that was the part that was rigged and totally F'D up in my opinion. Well thanks for reading my rants, I will be around more now when I figure this new pc and am able to do a bit more than today. Until next time, have a great week!!!!

The Chicken-!@# Way Out
Posted by storminnorman on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 3:00:00 PM

Well yesterday turned out to be an interesting day in sports, talk about a team taking the chicken way out of hiring a more qualified head coach in Phil Jackson who knows how most of these current Laker's roll and what it takes to get them to play to his and their expectations. Mike D. will not survive the life of his contract, not that he will care anyway because of what they are paying him to coach this group of athletes anyway. I guess this applies to a few things I have decided to rant about today here on the Gab, you pick the sport I have something to say.p

This rant can pretty much start with any of the major sports I want to write about, but since hockey and the NHL has pretty much wrecked my winter I have chose those group of bullheaded jackasses to pick on first. How the hell can you solve a labor dispute thousands of miles apart sitting in front of your television and not negotiating? By the way, I think it is rather bogus to sit and blame each other for not getting a deal done when negotiations should have started during the previous season. By the way, I am not buying your excuse of not negotiating during the season its a crock of bull and you all know it......

Here is something that I will actually agree with the Beeze about, get rid of the overtime tie in football. If you have the balls to do so in the playoffs why not do it now? As a fan, we do not mind overtime until its settled, we also are familiar with the facts that most overtimes in all sports end within the first 10 minutes or even the first possession. But after all, we pay good money to come watch the sometimes crappy teams you put on the field, court or ice and we should get to see finality in the game we busted our butts at work all week to pay  for the product you place on the field. But in turn, we cannot blame the NFL for the Ram's inept offense along with the 49ers not being able to make a field goal can we?

Now onto MLB, if you want to make it fair for everyone involved the simply do this get rid of the DH entirely along with home field advantage for the winner of the all-star game. Give home field to the best records in both leagues just like the days when I was growing up. Return the sport I love to its original form, hell even add an extra wild-card play-in game and make the 3 seed play in a playoff game. It will not extend the playoffs any further than it did this year, and maybe give another team a chance to live their dream.....

NCAA we all know you are full of crap, and your system for football sucks so I do not need to go there. The only thing you have going for you is the basketball tournament, you should really take a look at the setup and try it with football, because you know it works. Some how I still see a conspiracy theory taking place, and Alabama making it into the National Championship game if two of the three remaining undefeated teams lose. That's how they roll.....

Finally, Jeff Gordon how can you look at yourself in the mirror after acting like a jackass Sunday and wrecking Clint Bowyer's car? Really Jeff, Dale Sr. has been gone for a while now, do you really think you have to revert back to your days when you were actually good enough to win cups and try and injure other racers? You definitely deserved a stiffer punishment, but because you are who you are you got a slap on the wrist that other drivers would not have received. By the way, Clint has not and will not forget what happened better keep your head up on Sunday revenge is sweet, and don't you think he will not retaliate if given the opportunity to do so.

Well boys this was fun, thanks for reading my post........

Been A While
Posted by storminnorman on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 7:21:08 PM

Been a little while since the last time I stuck my head in at the Gab, for most we re-elected the President or tried to get him fired. Watched the Tigers and Lions disappoint me greatly, and no matter what anyone says seen A & M take down a so-called giant  in the Tide even making them look human to a certain extent. I finally received permission from my therapist to take this sling of my right arm, and  try and re-learn how to use this right hand along with regaining some strength and dexterity in my hand. Guess I really should have spoke with  Sully before I had this done, because this recovery time has seemed like it has taken a long time already and I still have around 50 plus days until I can be cleared to return to work. Anyway, I did not come on here to complain I came on here to share my thoughts....

Verlander stunk up AT & T Park, should have been a sign of things to come.

Kung Fu Panda strikes and sets the tone in Game 1, another warning sign.

Caberera and Fielder couldn't hit their weight, let alone drive in runners in scoring position.

Giants pitching continued to make the pitches when it counted, began to wonder if the Tigers were ever going to score a run after game 1.

Barry Zito pitches another gem, should have been  the MVP because without him they would not have made the series.

Giants celebrate at Comerica Park

Lost another friend, just another statistic of undetected prostate cancer. Had lots of fun with Kerry, as anyone that knew him will tell you the same.

The Lions and their ignorant offensive logic, what the hell are they waiting for, everyone in the NFC North to lose and come back to them. Yesterday was a chance for them to climb back in their division, and like usual they let Adrian Peterson run wild and got exactly what they deserved another loss. I hate to say this because I am a big supporter of Jim Schwartz, but maybe its his time to go. His offense outside of  Matthew Stafford absolutely sucks ass, and you can't blame the defense for yesterday's loss because they spent most of the day on the field because the offense could only convert 1 third down yesterday. Hate to say this about him, but I see a lot of Wayne Fontes in him. No imagination on offense, but enough defense to win most games with a little help or a freaking running game. The Lions can kiss my ass, they may not win another game this year, and I am fine with that....

Did anyone watch the Houston-Chicago game? Daniel Manning got a little Bears ass last night for not signing him didn't he?

Michael Vick, Alex Smith and Jay Cutler getting smoked guess you cannot protect them after all. Sure hope that tie does not come back to haunt the 49ers, and I hope each of these guys are okay and able to play soon.

How the hell is he still quarterback in Dallas? He is or has been absolutely awful outside of yesterday, he only remains because his backup is Rex Grossman....

Gordon wrecking Boyer, and then they go at it in the pits. Damn, I missed it stupid Lions and their losing ways...

Sorry Calvin, if they would only surround you with a running game this team would be awesome. Who woke up the Ravens, 55 points yesterday?

Well guys thanks for reading my post, and have a great week!!!!!

Hello Gabbers, the one armed, one fingered bandit is back after taking a couple of weeks to himself to regain some strength in his shoulder, so please pardon the typos, this one fingered typing sucks! I do have to admit one thing, I have not missed an inning of the playoffs, so here is my take..........

Taking nothing away from DVT's Cardinals or Gerry's Giants, but this World Series is setting up perfectly in the Tigers favor. Both of their teams will not have their aces until at least game 4, while the Tigers who will probably be a flat in the first game.

I am not saying they will sweep or even win the series, I just like their chances considering how the pitching matchups line up. Well this is it for now, gotta take a rest and get ready for game 7. Thanks for reading my post, See you soon....

GO TIGERS!!!!

Storminnorman's Sports Blog- I'm Not a Happy Fan....092112
Posted by storminnorman on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 12:18:20 PM

I pissed off right now, and I will tell you why. I realize that this blog is a little out of date, since the jackasses who run the NHL decided to lockout the players once  again and try and bust the NHLPA again. What right do they have of screwing me out of the one sport outside of football that I actually like to watch during the winter.

I was looking forward to it filling a void in my life while I was off having my shoulder surgery, but all I have to say to the owners is this YOU JUST LOST ANOTHER FAN OF YOUR SPORT, AND YOU NEED PEOPLE LIKE ME TO SUPPORT YOU AND FOLLOW YOUR SPORT! I AM NOT TAKING YOUR SHIT ANYMORE!!

You did this to me once before, and I forgave you because you are my winter sport that I loved to watch. But this time, you have taken this too far.

I will not feel sorry for you when your league or teams are forced to fold, your greed as owners set you apart like no others. I do believe Hotch is right when he said this not to long ago Fuck You you inconsiderate bastards. You do not care about us the fans, who pay for your suites and your high ticket and concession prices. Especially for those teams that yearly are the doormats of the league, their fans have to suffer........

I said  this about baseball during the last strike, I vowed to never return to another game. It took me 3 years to forgive them, it may take longer for you. Your owners are always playing the money card with the players union, saying they do not deserve their fair share. You do not care about me, so I no longer care about you.

You do not care about the Kings fans who outside of watching the Laker's win championships over the years, never have got to experience this feeling of defending the Cup. I have had that feeling 9 times in my life, and there is nothing like being the fan of a champion in a sport, you have bragging rights over everyone who roots for a team in your league.

So because of your greed I will be forced to watch this, the World Championship Tour of King James. Thanks a lot for forcing this upon me, hell who knows maybe I will follow college basketball this fall instead of you upon your return.

Thanks for reading my post...

Remembering.............
Posted by storminnorman on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11:30:00 PM

I really do not like talking too much about this day, but I thought I would remember those who died senselessly; and our soldiers who are fighting a war they do not need to be fighting. Taylor was only a couple months old on this horrible day, which if you were like me you just sat glued to your television in shock of the events that had taken place that morning...

I think that it's only fair to those who died making the ultimate sacrifice that day, we take time to honor them and their families. After all sports will always be here for us to debate, while they will sadly missed and remembered by their families on that day. Osama is dead, that is a fact. But it does not make up completely for that day. Fuck Bin Laden, it should have been sooner.......

For those who have fought and died during these two wars, I want us to remember you on this day as you have made the ultimate sacrifice dying for your country. The good news out of all of this, is a fellow friend has returned to work unscathed. His tour of duty is over, and hopefully he will never be called upon again.

This is apparently the season for the Tigers, as they face the White Sox in Chicago which for the most part is not their problem. They seem to handle them without much problem, but the weekend series against the Indians may determine their postseason aspirations. I would like to believe that they honestly have a chance to win their division, but it's probably going to take a sweep both the White Sox and Indians for this to happen.

Who would have thought they would be the team to decide the Tiger's season? I wish they played the Sox as tough as they do the Tigers.............

Apparently the cardiac kids have not lost their swagger, another game won in the 4th by Stafford who look awful for most of the game.

So bite me Jim Schwartz, you still suck as a coach. If you cannot motivate your team to get it going out of the gate, then maybe bring back Wayne Fonts, because at least his teams played 60 minutes and not 15. I would like to retract one thing I said on FB to Gerry, the 49ers are even better than even I thought even if they had to hang on late. Screw Sanchez and the Jet's even Beezer's high school team could slap the Bill's with 48.

Welcome to the league RGIII, the sleeper pick at QB on one of my fantasy teams. Hey Harvey, I seen your boy Kolb is back at QB. I have to admit, I have an all Texan offense Schaub, Foster and Tate but yet they were playing the Dolphins...

To Sully, Frags and Lanz Brady looked like himself, outside of one highlight when I seen him get peeled off the turf. Oh and one more thing, there is something that I forgot to do.......

Have a Great Week Gabbers, will be seeing you soon.......

It's Been Fun!!! 9-8-12
Posted by storminnorman on Saturday, September 08, 2012 at 12:15:00 PM

It has been a fun year blogging here at the Gab.

Going from being unknown,

To filling in for Hotch.

Sharing a seat on Sunday,

with always an opposite view.

But as always,

good things must end.

I am not going away, oh hell no this is way too fun.

I am taking a break for a while,

to take care of myself.

I will be back to rile Sully, Beeze and Harvey

just like I have always done.

Who knows you may see me,

from time to time.

As I mentioned before,

unlike others who have came and went

their own way.

I still have plenty to say.....

So take care of yourself Gabbers,

and continue to spread the news....

of a revolution in blogging,

where it is nothing like the Sporting News....

See ya soon!
