There is no sympathy for me in the hearts of baseball fans out there. No one feels bad while I wallow away in the purgatory that the Boston Red Sox have placed me in. I won't find a sympathetic shoulder to lean and expound my feeling on in this bunch.

No, in these quarters, there is no love lost for the Red Sox. They have created their own problems and after years of ESPN and Fox cramming them down people's throats, they are more hated when losing than they were when they were winning. Luke Scott was right; the Red Sox collapse has been a beautiful thing. It has been a beautiful disaster that you could not make up even if you tried to. For every word muttered to the media, for all of the secret meetings leaked to the public, and for all of the snide comments made between teammates and amongst management, this edition of the Red Sox has been an unmitigated disaster.

But I'm not throwing anything more at the television. I'm not going to rant and rave about my misgivings in regards to the posers in red stockings. No, I'm packing up my hats and my jerseys. I'm throwing in the towel and writing off this team for the next six months.

I'm finding a new team to root for.

But I'm not jumping on a bandwagon, that wouldn't be fair to the fans that have endured years of heartache and poured their entire beings into supporting their teams year in and year out. No, I need something purer than that. I need to go back to where baseball is still fun, where it is still a game.

I'm going back to Little League.

These kids know what the game is all about and they love the game, and that is simply exemplified by my new favorite team; Uganda. The Ugandan team took a full year to finally become the first African team to make its way to Williamsport. The team had qualified for the tournament in 2011, but was prevented from entering it after they had trouble getting visas due to birth certificate issues. Yet, they persisted and made their way back in 2012, papers in hand. To see a team rise up from one of the poorest countries in the world and then rise again after a crushing ruling on a technicality the year prior, it is hard not to root for the underdog here. 

This is a team that has had its way paid to the regional tournaments by Richard Stanley, the co-owner of the Double-A Trenton Thunder and he's been responsible for bringing them to the United States. This is a team that received a game with a team from British Columbia last season after they failed to get to Williamsport a season ago. This is a country which has only been playing the game since 2009 and has had to deal with misappropriation of funds and equipment to get where they are in just 3 short years.

I'm rooting for the Ugandan team because I love a good story. I love an underdog. Most importantly, I love a good cause, and growing baseball and the brotherhood that comes with it is a great cause. When they take the field for the first time against Panama on Friday, they will have a new nation of followers cheering them on for all the right reasons.

I'm rooting for Uganda because this is baseball, in all its purity.
