Flag Day?? Boxing Sucks?? NHL and more in this weeks edition of….

Today is Flag Day. It is also the 50-star American Flag’s 50th Anniversary. The present flag is the longest standing United States Flag design.

June 14th, 1777 Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag.

President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14th.

Congressional legislation designating June 14th as the National Flag Day was signed into law by Harry Truman in 1949.

There have been 27 official versions of the flag.

Congrats to Matt Cain!! Your Perfect!!

Matt Cain threw the first perfect game in San Francisco Giants history and the 22nd in major league history as he beats the Houston Astros 10-0.

Stony Brook Seawolves. Who are they? What are they? Stony Brook 24,000 students strong and is located on Long Island, New York. Their men’s baseball team beat LSU to advance to the College World Series!!

I did not see the Pacquiao versus Bradley fight so I am not passing my judgment on it. But from what others have said, Manny was robbed.

Boxing has gone down hill over the last 5-6 years. The sport is no longer on regular TV, at least in my area, and I won’t watch it on HBO at 11pm. There is other stuff I could be watching, like Playboy after dark LOL.

Congrats to the Los Angeles Kings for winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

It looks as if the Memphis Grizzles may have found a buyer in billionaire Robert J. Parra who is the CEO of Ubiquiti Networks. The sale is pending an approval by the NBA. In the meantime Michael Heisley will still run the team, but will consult with Para.

You know your getting old when Cal Ripken Jr’s son Ryan was drafted in the 20th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Ryan isn’t the only son of a major league ball player who was drafted. Tate Matheny, Lance Roenicke, Cameron Gibson and Rustin Sveum were also drafted with the chance to play for their dad. Roenicke, 25th round pick by the Brewers, dad is the manager; Matheny, a 23rd round pick, was taken by the Cardinals, who’s dad is the manager; Gibson’s dad, Kirk, was taken in the 38th round by the Diamond Backs, while Sveum was taken in the 39th round by his dads team the Cubs.

There are a lot more players who had family members that were associated with MLB in some capacity. Yastrzemski’s grandson, Mike, was drafted by Seattle; Orel Hershiser’s son, Jordan, was drafted by the Dodgers; Garvey’s son, Ryan, was taken by the Rockies; Dan O’Dowd’s son, Chris, was taken by the Padres and Frank Wren’s son, Kyle, was taken by the Red’s.

I took some pictures of our retention ponds in our development where I live. We have had a lot of rain and they are full. It is expected to rain the next couple of days. When things settle down I will take more pictures and post for all to see.
