Spec Sheet 3-10 The Super Saturday Speculation
Category: NCAA
Tags: NCAA Picks & Predictions

The†fluidity of†the Spec sheet†is†very†obvious†now†as this sheet†goes†to†press at 12:50p†EST the C-USA final is being played and†unless Marshall rallies to win there will be only two†teams going†from C-USA. Bid stealers like†Ole Miss, St. Bonnies and Louisiana Tech still lurk though. Bids could be reduced from the Big†East where Seton Hall and UConn wait and the ACC where Miami†should be†safe but still†have†concerns

Atlantic Coast
(Conference Class-Power)
Playing For Seed :Duke, North Carolina, Florida State, North Carolina State, Virginia
Needs Help to get in: Miami
Skinny on the ACC: NC State is now bulletproof regardless of what happens against UNC this afternoon. Miami is the only team sweating and I think that they should be okay, but they will feel better as long as their arenít any more upsets
Key Game: North Carolina State vs North Carolina Saturday 1:00 (ESPN) †The Wolfpack face their despised in state rival

Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Tournament : Mar 8-11 Philips Arena, Atlanta
Projected Bids: 6

Atlantic Ten
Conference Class-Mid Major
Playing For Seed:Temple, Saint Louis
Work to do: UMass, Xavier, St. Bonaventure
The A-10 Spec is: Show shocker! UMass stuns Temple and are the lop-eared mutt in the A-10 tourney. Despite the loss the Owls are still way safe and will get an invite. Xavier may still need to get to the A-10 tourney final to get an invite as I think that their uneven season may not be enough to get them an at-large invite just yet. The Bonnies will simply need to win the whole shooting match to get an invite.

Key Game: Xavier vs St Louis Saturday 3:30 (Fox Sports Net) The Muskies need as many wins as they can get. The Billikens are safe.

Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament: March 6-11 (First round Campus Sites) Quarterfinals-Finals Boardwalk Arena, Atlantic City, NJ
Projected Bids:3

Big East
Conference Class-Power
Bulletproof: Syracuse, Georgetown, Marquette, Louisville, Notre Dame, Cincinnati
Should get in: South Florida UConn
Hoping For the Best: Seton Hall, West Virginia
Big East Skinny: Cincinnati makes its first ever Big East title game by racing out to a huge lead against Syracuse then weathering an Orange rally. The Ville thumped Notre Dame to set up a finale between a pair of long time rivals.
Big East Championship Cincinnati vs Louisville 9p Saturday (ESPN) †Madison Square Garden, New York City
Projected bids: 9

Big Ten
Conference Class-Power
Playing For Seed: Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue
Playing their way out: Northwestern

The word on the Big Ten is: All three of the Big Ten champs moved on to the semifinals along with Wisconsin. No shocks no surprises and these teams are playing for tourney seed

Key Game: Ohio State vs Michigan 4:10 Saturday (CBS) The bitter rivals arenít too keen in having to have had to share the Big Ten regular season title this semifinal matchup will settle it for this year.

Big Ten Conference Championship Tournament: Mar 8-11 Bankers Life-Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis
Projected Bids:6

Big 12
Conference Class-Power
Bulletproof: Kansas, Baylor, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State
Work to do: Texas
Skinny from the heartland: Baylor needed no help but knocking off Kansas further solidified the Bearsí bid. Mizzou waits in the finale after throttling Texas who should be okay as long as Bid Stealers like St. Bonnies, Louisiana Tech or Ole Miss donít grab an auto bid.
Big 12 Conference Championship: †Baylor vs Missouri 6p Saturday (ESPN) Sprint Center Kansas City
Projected Bids:5

Colonial
Conference Size-Mid Major
In: VCU
Hoping For The Best: Drexel
Colonial Spec: While the Rams gear up for another tourney run, the Dragons wait with baited breath. Losses by Northwestern, Seton Hall and Washington cheer their hopes as their coach tirelessly campaigns for a tourney slot. Will the Dragons get the bid with 27 wins this season? Such is life on the bubbleÖ

Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Champions: VCU
Projected Bids: 2

Conference USA
Conference Class-Major
Playing For Seed: Southern Miss, Memphis
Work to do: Marshall
Oh Say Can You C-USA Spec: Marshall continues its thrilling run through the C-USA bracket and I think the big boy conferences are quietly rooting for the Herd to win the C-USA title. I could see the selection committee just taking the Herd sticking them in Dayton in the first four and letting a tired Herd team get waxed in a noon game. Instead I see the Tigers going win or lose and Southern Miss hoping that the Herd win the Saturday Morning finale.
Conference USA Championship : Marshall vs Memphis 11:35a Saturday (CBS) Fed Ex Forum Memphis
Projected Bids: 2

Horizon
Conference Class-Mid Major
In: Detroit,
Playing their way Out: Valpo
Spec on The Horizon: Mercy! The Titans went into Valpo and housed the Crusaders for the Horizon title, and garnered their first NCAA bid since 2000

Horizon League Champions: Detroit Mercy
Projected Bids: 1

IVY
Conference Class-Small
In: Harvard
Playing Their Way Out: Penn
Spec on the Ivy Vine: The Crimson are headed for the tourney for the first time since 1946. The tourney had 60 less teams thenÖ

Ivy Group Champions: Harvard
Projected Bids: 1

Missouri Valley
Conference Class-Mid Major
In: Creighton
Bulletproof: Wichita State
Missouri Valley Skinny: Bravo to the Bluejays! They won a thrilling final against potential an Illinois State team that had bid stealing aspirations. The Shockers, who were upended by the Redbirds in the Valley Semis have plenty of cred to get an invite.

Missouri Valley Conference Champions: Creighton
Projected Bids: 2

Mountain West
Conference Class-Major
Bulletproof: New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Colorado State

Spec from the Mountains: I think this conference sends more than the Pac-12, yes I said it. The Rams are good enough to go. The Championship game has a pair of teams that are playing for a better seed.

Mountain West Conference Championship: New Mexico vs San Diego State (MTN Network) Saturday 7p Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas
Projected Bids: 4

Pacific 12
Conference Class-Power
Playing For Seed: Cal
Work to do: Arizona, Colorado
Playing Their Way Out: Washington, UCLA, Oregon Stanford
Spec from the left coast: Are you kidding me? Arizona and Colorado are the last two standing?? I have reduced the number of projected bids accordingly.. The Buffs have made quite a splash in their first season in the Pac-12 but I really donít have any confidence in these teams at all. Who ever wins at the Staples Center gets the auto bid of course and Iíll grudgingly project Washington and Cal, the top two teams in the Pac-12 go to the dance. Thatís it, shut up Pac-12 fans your overall mediocrity has annoyed us too much to bear.
Pac-12 Conference Championship: †Colorado vs Arizona 6p (CBS) Saturday Staples Center, Los Angeles
Projected Bids: 3

Southeastern
Conference Class-Power
Bulletproof: Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Florida, Alabama
Work To Do: Ole Miss
Playing their way out: Mississippi State, Tennessee

Spec is Down South: Tennessee has just exhausted its chances, losing to Ole Miss is the just the last straw. The bids only increase if Ole Miss wins the SEC title but the Rebels will only go with the auto bid. The bulletproof teams are safe, including the Gators who lost a tight thriller with the Tide.

Key Game: Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt 3:30 p (ABC) The Rebels need to keep winning to keep their improbable tourney dreams alive
Southeastern Conference Championship Tournament: Mar 8-11 New Orleans Arena, New Orleans
Projected Bids: 4

Western Athletic
Conference Class- Major
Bulletproof: Nevada
Work to do: New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech
Spec on the WAC: The Aggies chances at a bid just got a whole lot better. I donít think that Nevada will get left out in spite of their stunning upset loss to Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs arenít going anywhere but home unless they win tonight.

Western Athletic Conference Championship †Louisiana Tech vs New Mexico State Midnight Saturday †(ESPN) Orleans Arena, Las Vegas
Projected Bids: 2

West Coast
Conference Class- Mid Major
In: St. Marys
Bulletproof: Gonzaga
Hoping for the best: BYU
West Coast Spec: The Gaels won a classic final over their archrivals Monday night and go back to the tournament for the first time since 2010, weep not for the Bulldogs who will very likely make their 14th straight tourney appearance.

West Coast Conference Champions: St. Marys
Projected Bids: 2

There are others in the mix to be sure. (projected winners in parentheses, projections can and will change with conference winners in Bold) Teams from the always dangerous Big South (UNC-Ashville) always are in the mix and can send multiple teams. Of course the champions from the following conferences get an automatic bid: Amer. East (Vermont) , Atlantic Sun (Belmont) , Big Sky (Montana) , Big West (Long Beach State), MAC (Ohio), MAAC (Loyola-MD), MEAC (Norfolk State), Northeast (Long Island-Brooklyn) , Ohio Valley (Murray State) , Patriot (Lehigh) , Southern (Davidson) , Southland (McNeese State), Sun Belt (Western Kentucky) , Summit (South Dakota State), and SWAC (Mississippi Valley State).
Remember folks, this sheet is fluid, nothing here is concrete and we haven't even brought up the possibility of upsets. But those never happen, right?

Final†Spec ahead of the†Selection show will post†at approximately 4:00 pm EDT Sunday
