Sometimes in life we mess the most simple things. The things that put a smile on our face. The things that we think that will always be there. The people we think that will always be there as was the case Monday with the passing of John Michael Paveskovich at the age of 92. Who was better known as Johnny Pesky for 70 years he was part of Red Sox Nation as a Player ,Coach,Manager, and Broadcaster.

Pesky was iconic around the Red Sox and Iconic around greater Boston. He was one of a few people that was close to Ted Williams. Pesky even in his 80’s was seen in Fort Myers hitting Fungos to young  players

Pesky spent 7 years  with Boston but after his rookie year of 1942 joined the Milatery and than cameback in 1946 at age 26 and played 9 more years 6 with the Red Sox 2 with the Tigers and 1 with the Washington Senators. The beloved Pesky(stats) would hold court each morning at a local diner near his home on Massachusetts North Shore. He had his guys. I was fortunate enough to met Pesky once when I was a child Little Leaguer and he was a broadcaster. It was at our little league banquet he sat at the head table cigar in head ( smoking indoors at functions was common then) He signed each autograph with enthusiasm as we young ballplayers approached . He asked each of us one on one how are season went like we were the only kid in the room. He would end by saying hang in there kid.

Pesky would call each player peckerhead not as some kind of insult that would spark a reaction frpm our current over sensitive nation but more a term of endearment and encouragement and in his own special way of saying hey kid your alright.

Johnny Pesky passed on this past Monday August 13 the same date Phil Rizzuto(stats) did 5 years earlier as did Mickey Mantle as well. It is a sad day in Red Sox Nation as the Czar has gone to join his former teammates Ted Williams and the Little Professor Dom Dimaggio. I hope each time as Red Sox fans we look at the Pesky Pole(Rightfield Foul Pole ) at Fenway Park maybe it shines a little brighter and maybe it will bring a little smile to your face as you remember old #6.

There is certainly, not a good week for Red Sox Nation Pesky’s passing on Monday . Yahoo sports Jeff Passan broke a story on Tuesday talking about a meeting in New York  about Red Sox players calling a meeting with management in an attempt to fire Bobby Valentine. According to the article Adrian Gonzalez texted owner John Henry when Valentine left stating pitcher John Lester in for 11 runs . Management actually meant with the on July 27^th an off day in New York. Apparently Gonzalez and Pedroia were the most vocal in the group of about 17 players. The Red Sox have played spin doctor on this article as Principle Owner John Henry sent an email to the media denying the meetings were to fire Valentine. He says the players were upset at themselves according to the Boston Heralds Scott Lauber

The one the ownership of the Red Sox dislike is any type of bad press. They will spin and change it faster than Barrack Obama changed his position on gay marriage. Red Sox management is all about the brand and quite frankly the Nation is tired of their spin.

Something happened at that meeting and somebody blew the whistle as somebody did in September. I’m guessing it was a very unhappy player. Maybe David Ortiz who has spoken out about his contract and being a free agent. I also suspect that there will be a new manager in 2013.

I also think the current manager has had fair shot then again anybody who replaced Tito Francona wasn’t going to get a fair shot.
