Before I get started I wanted to do the proverbial “shout out” to that crazy weatherman in Cleveland who likes our site and reportedly enjoys the tantrums. Maybe I’m just getting older and more bitter, but it seems to me that there is more outrage than sports right about now. I’m kinda getting tired of the outrage police and this whole freaking industry they’ve built for themselves. I seem to recall in a certain document In the span of one week:
MLB – Bob Costas. Apparently on Friday Night, Bob Costas was calling the Chicago Northsiders/St. Louis game and Petro Strop had a bad night – he made the god-awful mistake of giving up two hits, a HR, a HBP, a walk, and only got one batter out, so Costas thought in his smarmy little way he’d push this comment:
“Strop is on his way out, pointing toward the heavens…asking some departed relative for forgiveness for this atrocious performance.”
Now giving Costas crap is usually ok by me because he is a smarmy little bastard, but the outrage over this comment has gotten to full blown panic? Are we to the point where Costas had to publicly say that he would apologize to the kid? Really? Are we to that point to where a stupid comment can make that much controversy?
A good played Baseball game is now being thought of as “the Bob Costas game.” That’s just stupid.
MLB – All-Star Game Voting. We’ve talked about this ad nauseum, but the media continues to be outraged that fans would dare vote Kansas City Royals into the game. They’ve gone so far as to practically beg fans to vote for non-Kansas City Royals.
I’ll say it again, you assholes lost your credibility when you endorsed and condoned ballot box stuffing in the past, mostly in big markets. You aren’t going to get any sympathy or empathy from me and many others. It’s about damn time that small markets took advantage of a rule in order to favor them.
NBA Odds and Ends. People are just looking for any excuse to create controversy in this league. Apparently on Saturday Jahlil Okafor was holding up his jersey in Philly and he dropped it and was turning around. Now all of a sudden this is some kind of offensive. Jesus folks, give it a rest.
Screw it, Bill Burr, where the hell are you to to another epic rant blasting all the assholes trying to make hay out of this?
NASCAR. The left-turn circuit have made a very public campaign of distancing itself from the Stars and Bars. Brian France called the Stars and Bars an “offensive symbol” and that NASCAR would “go as far as we can to eliminate the presence of that flag.” Really Brian? If it bothered you that badly why didn’t you take steps before this? Sorry NASCAR, not buying it. You are doing this because of outrage and business concerns, not because you believe it’s the right thing to do.
He further went on to say this:
“Obviously, we have our roots in the South, there are events in the South, it’s part of our history like it is for the country, but it needs to be just that, part of our history. It isn’t part of our future. We want everybody in this country to be a NASCAR fan, and you can’t do that by being insensitive in any one area.”
Look, I’m on record as saying that the Stars and Bars have absolutely no business being flown over government buildings. As for anywhere else, nah, not hearing that argument – if necks wanna fly that flag over their pre-race parties, who am I to complain, just as I don’t give a damn if somebody flies the gay flag over their party.
So freaking what? What part of ignore it do you not understand? I seem to recall a statement in the Declaration of Independence that went like this:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Can we let people live their lives as they see fit so long as they don’t screw with ours? Why is it that we feel this incessant need to force our beliefs down each others throats?
Let’s assume the outrage police get what they want and get the stars and bars removed. Here’s the slippery slope – at what point to people go after the gay flag, or veterans flags such as the POW/MIA flag? Where does it end?
NBA Offseason – Free Agency. Lots of rumors, nothing substantive – it’s all bullshit – so don’t listen, but here was one tweet that was funny as hell and it comes from LeBron’s personal PR man, Brian Windhorst:
“LeBron James & Kevin Love spent time together today in LA. Wasn’t a free agent meeting, just hanging out sources said.”
This is what reporting has come down to, source-stalking a guy and reporting he was just “hanging out?” This is what passes for legitimate news in the NBA? Way to go ESPN…
And what if they were having a “free agent meeting?” Would that not be tantamount to “collusion?”
Golf – Sad News. Sad news indeed when it was reported in USA Today yesterday that Peter Ooserhuis has the early onset of Alzheimer’s Disease and has known for a year. Oosterhuis was a successful pro golfer and then joined CBS to add his commentary to their golf programming. Peter is 67.
Political Outrage. Then of course we have the non-sense surrounding the sour grapes regarding the decisions of the Supreme Court re/Obamacare, Gay Marriage, etc..
Obamacare has its heart in the right place, and I could see where it’s gonna cause trouble down the line, but if you want to rant about it, don’t blame Obama with one exception – ramming it down this country’s throat. Had the medical complex not gotten so damn greedy, more people could have been helped. Oh by the way, where is the outrage about the obscene cost of health care? Not one person is bitching about that…yet all I hear is outrage about Oil Company profits, WAL-Mart, and so many others…
Gay Marriage. I challenge anybody in the religious realm to show me where Gay Marriage affects your freedom to worship as you see fit. How does it affect how you live your everyday life? It doesn’t so move on.
In closing. Folks, I’m gonna post again before the holiday weekend, but I just wanted to say to you all that partake in the celebration early and won’t be here while I man the fort, I hope you have a happy and safe 4th of July, but take the time to think about our country and what is going on, and if you have a relationship with the almighty, take a second and ask him to help us out because right now we’ve lost our damn minds.
