If you don’t believe that Deflategate is a witch hunt with the cards stacked against Tom Brady from the very beginning then you’re either one of the haters I’ve grown accustomed to hearing from, particularly the New York Propeller fans or you’re seeing this with blinders on. Take for instance the Wells report, we know now it was edited by Goodell and his cronies prior to its release. It ended up saying exactly what they wanted it to, and of course it was going to, Ted Wells who made a nice chunk of change, $5 million to be exact, is Roger’s boy, so how else was it going to turn out?
Next we have the so-called destroying of Brady’s phone, this yet another leak from the NFL front office, so was it any wonder TB didn’t want to turn it over, not only that but was told his phone was not going to be part of the investigation when he went to meet with Wells. As I said the other day in a comment, what difference did it make if he turned over his phone or not, they already had the two cell phones from the ball boy and equipment manager that had conversations with Brady, so what else did they want? I’m sure a lot of you know by now, especially if you have a cell phone, most data, particularly text messages can be retrieved from the carrier. Not only that, but phones nowadays that have cloud will easily be able to load your phone with almost everything that was on your last one. I did this not long ago and when I switched phones, not carrier, most of my texts from my contacts reloaded, so I don’t see what all the hoopla is about other than saying he destroyed it, yet Brady proclaims that he bought an iPhone 6 to replace a broken Samsung after the Wells report was released. Another no big deal in my opinion.
Then there was the hearing the commish chose to sit in as arbitrator, instead of doing what’s common practice in arbitration hearings where both sides agree from a list of independent arbiters. Seems to me that the intent here was to keep this as close to the Shield as possible. After all, if anyone independent had listened to this then the scientific evidence would have carried more weight, not be omitted entirely by a bias judge – Goodell.
What also carries no weight with me and I said this on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday morning, the balls that were flagged as underweight by Colts then checked by the referees at halftime and corrected where Brady had a much better half throwing the ball, where was the competitive advantage? There was none, and DP agreed. This is where in my opinion this was merely an equipment violation at the get go, but it’s been escalated by the league to make an example out of Brady and the Patriots. I mean really, we’re talking about air in a ball, fucking air. Too much I guess is okay, as Aaron Rodgers has openly admitted that’s how he prefers them prepared, but if for some reason there’s not enough then it’s compared to PED’s…as stated in Goodells decision.
To say this commissioner is out of control is an understatement. Why owner’s put up with him is beyond me. There are no guidelines for suspensions and certainly not continuity to them as they’re seemingly handed down after the court of public opinion has weighed in. We’ve seen players accused of domestic violence get this same amount of games, even get reduced, but Tom Brady is being called out as uncooperative…huh? Ten hours of testimony in New York, a sit down with Wells where anything he asked for then he got according to Donald Yee, Brady’s agent, but he was still uncooperative. It’s hard to believe we’ve come to a point where you have to prove yourself innocent if you play in the NFL. Last I checked this was not the military where once you sign on the dotted line you basically have no rights.
In closing I just hope the NFLPA takes The Shield to the cleaners and this whole debacle gets tossed out a high rise window…with Goodell leading the way.
