Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Had a great night under a huge full moon with the grandkids on Friday night. We went to the E-Town Fair. Put the kids on rides which the youngest refused to get off when the ride was over. He’ll be 2 next month and rides excite him. He takes after grammy. Got wheels and a motor? We’re there. Lots of over eating going on as well. Great time had by all.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
Apparently NASCAR has new tire inspectors. Must be a local guy.
IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
It’s an off week for our Sprint Cup drivers and some just got to race no matter what. Josh Wise and Landon Cassill were doing just that. They packed their bags for Austria to do a half ironman. That’s 1.2 mile swim – 56 mile bike – 13.1 mile run. It’s expected that 2700 athletes from all over the world will participate. Good luck guys.
NASCAR MARRIAGES & ENGAGEMENTS
Chad Knaus and Brook Werner were married this weekend. Brook was a former Miss Sprint Cup.
Matt DiBenedetto and Taylor Carswell got married this weekend. Matt drives the #83 BK Racing car.
Kurt Busch asked his girlfriend Ashley Van Metre on Wednesday to get hitched and SHE SAID YES!!! Ashley is a top polo player in America.
DALE JR STUFF
Dale Jr was digging in his closet and got out his dads old IROC uniform to play show & Tell on Twitter. He also had a great poster a fan gave him of his dad. I like Dale Jr’s Twitter account. The guy leads an active life off the track and has some pretty cool stuff to show or talk about.
TONY STEWART’S LAWYERS MOVE LAWSUIT TO FEDERAL COURT
US District Court Judge David Hurd is to over see the case. Kevin Ward’s family has not moved to block the case from being moved to federal court.
Stewart has handed in his response of what happened on that night to the federal court. His response said that he did not see Kevin until he was right there. He didn’t know any one was walking on the track. Didn’t know who had wrecked and did not know Kevin Ward. There were no previous track incidences with Kevin Ward. He also said that The Ward family gave up their right to sue when they signed the waiver to be in the event. He also pointed out that Kevin Ward Sr was responsible for making sure his driver (Kevin Ward Jr) was drug & alcohol free before the event.
The lawyer for the Ward family of course is making a fuss about all that Stewart said. If you’ll look at the photo I have above of Kasey Kahne’s winged sprint car you can see that there’s no way Stewart saw that kid till he was between the wheels of the car. The wing is so low on the right side it’s damn near impossible. Add in a very dimly lit track, Kevin Ward dressed in black, Stewart with a full face helmet and HANS device on, a wing tilted downward to the right side and you have a recipe for a horrible accident. Which is exactly what Stewart said it was and the grand jury said it as well after looking at the videos.
Again, I’m sorry for the Ward families loss but Tony Stewart was not to blame.
Last weekend at Pocono was an IndyCar race. Near the end the leader, Sage Karam lost control of his car and wrecked. The nose cone of his car flew back and hit Justin Wilson. He drove into the inside wall. He was air lifted in a coma to a near by hospital in Allentown but died of his injuries Monday night.
Justin donated his organs to help others and Justin’s brother, Stefan Wilson tweeted,” With #giftoflife@Justin Wilson saved 6 lives today. He just keeps setting the bar higher. Keep Julia & the girls in your prayers.”Aug 25 2015
Many of the NASCAR drivers knew him and raced with him in other series. AJ Allmendinger partnered with him in the Rolex 24 Hour race. He seemed to be the most effected by Justin’s passing.
And there is a lot of debate & talk on whether to put a canopy over the driver or not. Most of the drivers say they drive those cars because they love them and danger is a part of it. Others say it’s time for a change. I’m conflicted. I say with all the technology we have in today’s world it’s possible to have a better built cockpit that would protect them but be open too. I hope it comes to pass before we lose somebody else. Justin was only 27 with a wife and kids.
DOVER HAULER PARADE OCTOBER 1st
Dover International Raceway decided that if Bristol could do it they could too. So the hauler parade was implemented in 2013. Rain washed out the 2014 parade but they hope to get it in this year.
The trucks will be on display at The Blue Hen Corporation Center @ 655 S Bay Road from 3pm to 5pm. Then they will depart for the track at 5pm to end up at the Dover track for race weekend.
So if you’re in Dover that day, there’s something for your to do list.
DAVID RAGAN STILL LOOKING FOR A 2016 RIDE
Says he’d love to stay in Sprint Cup but would consider a competitive truck or Xfinity ride. He doesn’t want to be in a ride that he’d qualify 30th and end up finishing worse. He has no regrets giving up his #34 Front Row Racing ride to drive in Kyle Busch’s #18 or Brian Vickers #55 because he was told there were no guaranteed sponsors to run the year.
Sad to say it but there are too many talented kids in the wings that the competitive teams want in their cars. Ragan is too old by NASCAR standards. If you aren’t in a top team ride by 27 years old, you really don’t have much of a chance to get in one.
Darlington is set for Sept 6th @ 7pm and there will be lots of throwback paint schemes. These 2 are my favorite because Mark Martin had them on his car. I even have 2 die casts with these paint schemes on them. I’m very interested to see them on the track.
So there’s no Sprint Cup race this weekend but there’s a truck race today at 1:30 on Fox Sports 1. It’s a road course at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. I have Erik Jones & Matt Crafton for my top 10 picks. I don’t get to see truck races that often. Still hoping for a non cable or satellite package to be offered over the internet. I can dream. Can’t I?
So there you have it folks. Have a safe one and a grillin-tastic one.
And I’m outta here….=^!^=
