It’s getting colder here in NE as you can see the colors are close to peak around my light pole
My work schedule as we get into the cold season has given some alone time at the office. I’ve managed to spend significant time listening to music and that’s a good thing not a bad thing.

NFL picks and small talk
Thursday night at Gillette stadium:
Miami Dolphins come to the house (the Mall at Patriot Place) that Robert Kraft built
The Dolphins have been hot the past two weeks playing like the team most thought they were before Joe Philbin ( last seen pub crawlin in London towne) got them off to an uninspired 1-3 start. Ryan Tannehill is playing with confidence and the defense is putting pressure on opposing QB’s. A quick turnaround from Sundays games puts these division foes on the spot of shifting gears and getting back at it. The Dolphins are winless in the division losing to both the Bills and Jets, The Patriots are 2-0 in the division with wins over the Bills and Jets. The Dan Campbell Dolphins scored on long deep plays and yards after catches last week vs Houston…The Belichick rule of GTFB for defensive backs will slow the Dolphins who are looking to continue competing for a playoff run in Foxboro tonight. Brady, Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, Lewis and LaFell show us once again that running the ball in October is unnecessary. Pats win and cover the 9 point spread 35-23
~~Belichick speak; chapter 3 paragraph 7b defensive back field calls: GTFB= Get The Fuck Back
London…I’m no fan of London games, especially on Yafnhoo.
Detroit kittens take on the KC Chefs on the British Isles, the game is decided by the Home office of the NFL in New York after a long boring mistake ridden game.
The final play makes the NFL finally realize that they need to simplify the “is it a catch or not” rule. It ends on this note,;
Golden Tate catching a ball and juggling it across the entire end zone…finally securing it while landing on top of an elderly camera man and never actually touching the ground. The officials on the field rule it a touchdown…well, because it’s Golden Tate. All scoring plays are reviewed so The NFL reviews the play and the decision back in NFL headquarters is: The ruling on the field is upheld, Touchdown. The ruling explanation is that the camera man had both feet in bounds and full control of his camera while Golden Tate never let the ball touch the ground and broke the plane of the goal coming and going. Final score 9-7 Detroit.

Lovie Smith’s Bucs travels to Atlanta to take on the 6-1 Falcons. Lovie decides that his offense and defense will swap dispositions and is able to achieve competitive balance… losing 10-7
The Cardinals have fun in the City by the Lake of Erie, visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and beating Johnny Fball 42-9 after the game the Browns sign Ryan Mallett.
The Forty Niners are turned down by the Mountain West conference and so have to continue their NFL schedule. Todd Gurley runs for 200 and the Rams win 30-7
Eli and the Gnats head to Bourbon Street and Archie sits in the stands watching his 2 time SB champion son throw for 4 TD’s… 2 to each team, while Drew Brees drops 3 more on the NY defense and the Saints pull to .500 with a 37- 20 win.
The Vikings defense is playing well, Teddy Bridgewater is growing into the position and AP is running wild. The other side of the coin…Cutler looks horrible and the Bears lose again 30-13
Philip Rivers may throw for 6000 yards and his team may get a top 10 pick before their move to LA…but this week the Ravens offer little resistance in a 35-17 rout.
Andy Dalton has had a great run to 6-0 and the Steelers get Big Ben back. This turns into a shoot out and the Steelers sidetrack the Bengals 33-30
Tennessee, the old Oilers and the Texans, the new Oilers…where is Bum?..where is Earl Campbell?..where is Dan Pasterini for that matter…two teams going the wrong way with guys that forget where the game is and forget to catch a flight. I like Billy O’Brien but can’t see this ending well. Titans 11-Texans 10.
—Just thinking, the Texans and Cowboys have Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett* ( *hey Browns…now an available free agent), Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassell at QB. Is there so few QB’s available that these guys actually are starting options? Isn’t there another McCown somewhere? Can Cooper Manning throw the ball? Are Tom Brady’s sisters available, you know they must have good arms…Weren’t the Molina brothers two sport athletes? Can Tony Romo just suck it up and throw lefty?
Career stats: TD INT Comp % Pass rat Wins Losses
Matt Cassell 97 73 59% 79.8 34 40
b t w 23 of Cassell’s TD’s and 11 of his wins were with the Patriots in 2008
Ryan Mallett 5 7 53% 62.7 2 4
Brian Hoyer 30 27 57% 81 11 9
Brandon Weeden 28 30 57% 74.6 5 19
The 4-2 Jets head to the left coast to face the Raiders. The loss to New England won’t hurt these Jets much. They have a solid defense and will give Carr fits. The Jets bounce back with a solid 24-13 win. After the loss to the Patriots,Todd Bowles was asked what was the exchange he had with Belichick on the field. ” Bill said good game good team, see you in December” when asked the same question by the press Belichick said,” between us”
Seattle is playing decent defense but that offensive line just plane sucks and Russell Wilson has been sacked 30 times and if they can’t fix it would work out to 70. Greg Hardy will be licking his chops and will try to abuse the Seahawks QB like a———ok I won’t go there. If Dallas can put points on the board and can stay away from turnovers…call me crazy but, I see the Cowboys squeaking out a 17-16 win. Many were wondering what Hardy was talking to the Cowboys special teams about last Sunday…Dez Bryant tried to step in to keep the peace…
Aaron has been scary good and Peyton has been scary bad. I think Green Bay stays unbeaten with a 20-14 win in Mile High. The weather should be comfortable for Peyton at about 60 at kickoff but the Packers are a team on a mission to get back to the SB and Denver’s window is closing fast. The defense can carry them only so far.
Indy is playing at a low level and Carolina is playing defense better than the Saints and Patriots who have beaten Luck and friends the past two weeks. Carolina stays unbeaten with a 27-13 win over the Irsays. Did ownership ever think that Sucking for Luck would be Sucking with Luck a few years later? curious turnaround.
Overall the general consensus of play in the NFL had been mediocre this season.
But…This weekend promises some good match ups.
Miami at New England on Thursday, The Jets at Oakland, The Bengals at Pittsburgh and the Sunday night match up of unbeaten Green Bay and Denver.
