With help from our Scottish friend Connor MacLeod, of the clan MacLeod, we are hijacking this blog.
You are welcome. We are Brutus Buckeye and Biff the Wolverine. (Biff was a living wolverine paraded around the stadium in the 1920’s).
Our mission is to enlighten those of you who do not understand why this is the biggest rivalry in sports.
SEC fan don’t bring that weak crap around here. We laugh at your Iron bowl. Sounds like what Iron Man’s dog eats from.
Michiganders and Ohioans do acknowledge Army versus Navy as the number 2 rivalry. The Catholics and the Prophylactics are number 3. (Notre Dame-USC)
Ohio State and Michigan are border states. They almost fought an actual war over state boundaries. Ohio lost and got Toledo.
Our teams are in the same conference and have been for years. We have faced off 112 times as of today. First game 1897.
The 5 teams with the most wins not counting the Ivy League teams at the start of the 2015 season are: Michigan 923, Notre Dame 889, Texas 882, Nebraska 876, Ohio State 863. So OHio State-Mich. is the only rivalry game with top 5 All Time wins. This is no fluke rivalry that runs for a few years and fades like Florida-FSU-Miami. This is a 100 year plus rivalry.
SEC fan Bama 850 Kudos to them. Auburn comes in 19th at 734. Try harder War Eagle you are behind Tenn. Georgia and LSU.
Big Time players Ohio State 7 Heisman winners Michigan 3. Only 2 time Heisman winner belongs to Ohio State.
Coaches Woody versus Bo, Crisler, Carr, Cooper, Yost, Tressell etc. Now it’s Meyer vs Harbaugh. Give me a rivalry with better coaches at the same time. I dare you.
79 Conference championships for the 2 schools.
We play at each other’s stadiums and have since the rivalry began. Unlike that funny stuff Bama pulled on Auburn about location. When you have to “Cheat” for years against your rival and won’t go to their stadium you are cowards.
The stadiums are two of the largest in the country: Michigan Stadium is first with a capacity of 107,501; Ohio Stadium is fourth at 101,568. Not surprisingly, each team helped to dedicate the other’s new stadium in the 1920s. As Yost wrote before the Michigan Stadium dedication game in 1927: “I can think of nothing that expresses Michigan’s regard for Ohio State more tangibly … than the formal opening of our new stadium. When a man is married, he invariably invites his best friend to be his best man. When he accomplishes something exceptionally worthwhile, it is his closest friend who is first with congratulations. And so it followed that, when we planned the formal opening of the new stadium, we should single out Ohio to meet us on the gridiron”
The President: Gerald Ford played center for Michigan.
Ford had an African American room mate. Something impossible in the SEC during the 1930’s.
Good fashioned hatred against each other. Here are some funny postings each school makes at their rival.
The game is about to begin. Grab that leftover turkey, some nachos or chips sit back and enjoy. Have a great weekend and may your team win their rivalry game. Your normal host will be back next week.
