The Arizona Cardinals played their best football of the year Sunday afternoon. In the process they completely demolished the Green Bay Packers and most probably laid claim to being the NFL’s best football team. With the 38-8 drubbing of the Packers the Cardinals earned, at the least, a first round playoff bye and the guarantee of at least one home playoff game. The victory upped their overall record to 13-2 and established an all-time best 9 game winning streak for the team while in Arizona. The timing is perfect as Arizona is playing its best football of the season right now as the NFL Playoffs loom large.
The Cardinals defense sacked Aaron Rogers and his back-up 9 times, the most sacks that they have had in a game since moving to the desert. The defense also scored two touchdowns on fumble recoveries. Arizona’s offense and defense completely destroyed the Packers. Ironically Green Bay (10-5) is still in the playoff hunt and need only to shake off the pummeling that Arizona just laid on them and beat the Minnesota Vikings (10-5) in Green Bay next Sunday to win their Division.
The win against the Packers guarantees the Cardinals the #2 Playoff seed in the NFC and, with a home win next week against the Seattle Seahawks (9-6) coupled with a Carolina Panthers (14-1) home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-9), the Cardinals would earn the #1 seed throughout the playoffs.
Head Coach Bruce Arians said after the game that it was, from start to finish, the Cardinals best played game of the year. Anyone who watched the game (including Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani) would (No Doubt) have to agree. The Green Bay Packers were completely and totally annihilated by Arizona.
