Hi Gabbers. Hoping everyone had a great turkey Day and survived Black Friday.
My thoughts for what they are worth.
When did you last care about who won the Heisman Trophy unless it was a race involving a player from your team? What was once a major award is nothing but a yawn fest for me.
Quick other than Cam Newton who was the last Heisman winner to make a name for himself in the NFL.
Look at these Non-Hall Of Fame Names:
Robert Griffin III
These are the last 25 winners. Eddie George and Charles Woodson are arguably the two best winners from the list. Many are never-weres ( guys who were never going to have a good NFL career)
Now the award is supposed to be for the best player but even that is a joke because defensive players don’t win unless they play special teams.
Now look at the previous 15 winners:
Notice some Hall of Fame names do we? Those were the days when the Heisman meant something.
This is why the award has lost all meaning. No names quickly forgotten. It would be nothing if ESPN didn’t make it a big production.
Unless it goes to the kid from Stanford once again it is a joke vote.
I won’t be watching any of the 4 letter word’s madness. Sorry, I’m sure I can find Law and Order, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods or Murder She Wrote reruns. Just kidding on the last one.
On a sad note, John Hot Rod Williams has passed away. He was a solid player for several NBA teams including the Cavs at a time when I followed the NBA. RIP Hot Rod.
Time to drop a few Bowl Games. Sorry, but when 5-7 gets you a Bowl Bid enough is enough.
Personally, I’d cut out about 40% of the Bowls and make them more valid by forcing certain matchups.
Imagine if the SEC number 2 team played the Big 10 number two and the SEC number 3 played the SEC number 3. Matchups like that would be better for the viewing audience I believe.
Also, the time zone a game is played in should be a consideration.
Ohio State versus Notre Dame in Az starts at 10 am? A game that same day in La. starts at 530 pm.
Last time I looked Phoenix was pretty far West of New Orleans.
The groundwork for some future MLB trades was hopefully laid out at the Winter Meetings. Several teams made a few trades and a lot of free agents signed. Cubbies and the Snakes both looked like winners to me at this stage.
The NBA and their stupidity in giving credit to The Unknown Coach of GS is a joke. At Season’s end, Mr. Unknown will be in Big Demand.
A movie I won’t see is the Concussion themed movie. Will Smith trying to do an accent for the role made me laugh, but it isn’t a funny movie by intention.
For the 116th, time we have Army vs. Navy. As a child, this was a must watch game. As an adult, I try and watch a quarter or two.
If you haven’t already done so check out the interesting helmets being worn by the players.
Game time is 9 am Pacific so I’ll let you go and grab some snacks for the Kick Off. Go Navy! Anchors Away.
This game is a true Collegiate game. Very few players will go on to be NFL Heroes but all who graduate and go on are US Heroes.
Be well Gabbers enjoy your weekend.
