HAPPY EASTER!!! Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. The weather is a tad bit nicer here in the northeast. I’m enjoying that.
Bought myself a 55” Hiesense Smart TV. Been binge watching episodes of Roadkill on You Tube. I even have a You Tube button on my remote. GENIUS!!!! Love this show. Even if you’re not a car person this is an awesome show. The editor of Motor Trend Magazine goes out with another guy on adventures. They buy junk cars and drive some where. One of my favorite episodes is the one where they buy a 55 Chevy shell and drive to a speed shop in Oregon to get a rolling chassis. They eventually in other episodes put this car together and name it Blasphemi. They put a Dodge motor with a Hemi in it. I love the car.
Another episode finds them in The 24 Hours of Lemons race with a 80’s Datsun they dubbed Rotsun. The goal was to do 24 minutes and then after that 24 laps. The adventures of keeping that car running just makes you laugh.
Some other episodes include doing a motor change on an El Camino in Summit Racing’s parking lot in a snow storm, Putting dirt tires on a low rider and hitting the desert, buying a Mazda mini pick up with a boat motor in the bed of the truck which they race, putting a junk Ford Ranchero together to go ice racing in Alaska, buying a very junky General Lee looking car to fix up and do a mock chase seen at Subaru’s back woods car testing facility and putting a blower on a Jaguar and taking it to the drags.
The stuff these guys think up and get into is great. After I finally see every episode I guess I’ll be ordering Sling TV and Netflix for my tv watching. Got to have cartoons for my grandkids…..and me.
What of the land of Left Turns?
Things are kind of slim this week. It’s Easter vacation for NASCAR.
March 25th was Ms Danica’s birthday. She’s looking good.
Mobile 1 has a set of commercials on it’s You Tube channel celebrating Tony Stewart’s retirement. I still can’t believe he’s retiring. He’s only 44 years old. Where did the time go?
Matthew Dillner Tweeted that he is betting the 2 year old rumor of Audi coming to NASCAR will come to happen. Sounded pretty sure of himself too.
This past week of racing brought out some drama and everyone is wondering just how far NASCAR is going to go with it’s new behavior policy. Starting with the Xfinity race on Saturday when on the last lap Ky Bu has a flat tire and NASCAR doesn’t call a caution. On the radio he is irate and sarcastically thanking NASCAR for fixing races. He did finish 2nd and according to NASCAR rules 2nd & 3rd have to be at the media center after the race with the winner. He said he was too mad to go and figured he’d get a discount on his fine if he didn’t show up and say what he wanted. NASCAR fined him $10,000 and probation for 4 points races as punishment for not showing up.
After the Auto Club race on Sunday Martin Truex’s crew chief Cole Pearn made some ugly comments on Twitter about Joey Logano not being able to see Truex because of his squinty eyes. He later apologized. NASCAR is still looking into that one. Logano did talk to Truex after the race and he did take the blame for getting Truex into the wall.
And then Ms Danica got a $20,000 fine for walking up the track to give Kasey Kahne a “What the Hell was that” wave after he wrecked her. Still a no no to get out of the car and walk up the track to gesture to your favorite driver even if they’re under caution.
So I would say that Danica did disobey a rule. A safety rule at that. That fine is justified. To me no fine or even a blip on NASCAR’s radar should happen with what Cole Pearn said. Logano does have squinty eyes. As far as Ky Bu’s comments about NASCAR fixing races is concerned? NASCAR has a lot to do to show me they aren’t. I don’t like group qualifying. It’s subjective. Not definitive. I want to see the debris when it’s a caution at the end of the race especially. Phantom Cautions come out too often. The burden of proof is on NASCAR. Show me you’re not.
AUTO CLUB RECAP
Damn Superman won and ruined my fantasy league 1-2-3 finish. With 2 laps to go I had it, Harvick, Ky Bu & Elliott. But it was not to be. In those last 10 laps anything can happen and it usually does.
So Austin Dillon had the pole and the Xfinity win from Saturday. He was riding on a wave but Harvick in 2nd just took that wave away. To the lead he went. By lap 8 Dale Jr came up on Ku Bu too fast and hit him in the rear. Ku Bu must pit. Dale Jr says his car is tight now.
By lap 12 Vickers scrapes the wall. Truex is on the move.
Lap 25 Vickers to pit road. Right side sheet metal damage and a tire going down. Lap 27 Chris Buescher scrapes the wall. Caution. Hamlin has radio issues. Can’t talk to his crew. Edwards wins the race off pit road.
Edwards leads on the restart but Harvick takes the lead 3 laps later.
Lap 48 Larson hard into the wall. His left rear tire went and severed the brakes too. Harvick wins the race off pit road.
Lap 71 Harvick and Allmendinger pit early. They have tire issues. 10 laps later others start to pit too.
At half way Harvick – Johnson – Truex – Elliott – Kenseth are your Top 5
Lap 121 Caution comes out when Kahne bumps Danica and she goes for a spin into the wall hard. Then Ms Danica walks up the track to give Kahne that nasty “What the hell was that” wave. Kahne says he didn’t mean it but he is called to the NASCAR hauler along with his crew chief after the race for a chat. Kahne was down a lap and was fighting with Danica who was on the lead lap just a bit too hard for that position.
Truex wins the race off pit road but Harvick is 2nd. Within 7 laps Harvick takes the lead again.
Lap 155 is a debris caution that jumbles things up because there are drivers on pit road. Dale Jr, Truex, Johnson, Kenseth & Edwards. Dale Jr gets the free pass (Lucky Dog) and Truex gets a speeding penalty. Jimmie gets the lead.
7 laps later Harvick takes the lead and sets sale for a win. Except NO!!!!! Ky Bu gets a flat with 2 to go and it’s no GWC time. Hamlin has the lead but Jimmie pushes Harvick out to the lead. Now it’s Harvick with Jimmie on his bumper. On the last lap Superman takes the lead and Harvick is 1st loser. BOOM CONFETTI…….JIMMIE JOHNSON
Top 15 Finishers – Johnson – Harvick – Hamlin – Logano – Stenhouse – Elliott – Edwards – Allmendinger – Keselowski – McMurray – Dale Jr – Scott – Vickers – Newman – Menard
Next race is April 3rd at Martinsville. Will Danica take out Kahne? Will we have more behavior violations than actual rules violation? We’ll talk about that next week.
Until then, get your seed catalog out and give it a hug. Dust off the grill. Wash the salt off your car. Dig a hole for no good reason other than your outside.
And I’m outta here………=^!^=
