Welcome to May my friends. How unbelievable is it that we are already one-third of the way through 2016? As we now start drifting ever closer to Summer, I’ve already had the BBQ working, but am looking so forward to doing that even more, and I hope to learn some new recipes.
What’s going on in May? What an incredible month we have upcoming: the Kentucky Derby, the Indy 500, NBA and Stanley Cup playoffs.
For me, it’s gonna be busy too as this is my busiest month with veterans events, including Memorial Day Weekend and our local homecoming.
And then of course there’s Cinco de Mayo followed almost immediately by Mother’s Day.
May is one heck of a month.
NFL Draft. This may be the one year where I don’t ask the question “what was (team inserted here) thinking?” It seemed like a solid, not spectacular draft where everybody improved.
It was a big day for my son as he had three former teammates get signed by teams, one was drafted, two were signed as Free Agents. Two went to Denver, the other to Minnesota. Best of luck to Devonte Booker, John Tidwell, and Solomon St. Pierre. All will have strong challenges to make their rosters in Denver and Minnesota, but I look forward to following their progress and it will be something for me to watch in August.
It was so cool to be able to watch Booker tear up the field at the Junior College level here in Sacramento. An unbelievable talent who I hope does well.
Was it me or was almost every other draft pick out of Ohio State or Alabama? Hey look, I give these kids all the credit in the world. It’s now time for all the other programs out there to step their game up.
Laremy Tunsil. OK look, I don’t care about Weed per se – to each their own. However I do care when we’re talking about decision making, and everything about Tunsil makes me worried about his decision making ability.
So in true Dolphin fashion, Miami (of all places) drafts this kid. So let me see, the team with the O-Line drama of the past, and weed is a bit more plentiful there. And the Dolphins expect this kid to play on the straight and narrow? In South Florida? Odds aren’t good.
Stanley Cup Chase. I admit that I am actually watching a bit more this season, particularly as San Jose finally stepped it up, beating the L. A. Kings and now up over Nashville 2-0. I really like Pavelski, Thornton, Wade, Burns, and the gang. It seems like they have the good mental make up, though I could do without blowing leads in the 3rd period.
Is it me, or are the Pittsburgh Penguins the NHL’s version of the L. A. Clippers in that nobody likes them?
Meanwhile, over in St. Louis the NFL Draft meant absolutely nothing as the Blues have tied up their series with Dallas.
NBA 2nd Round. Well the 2nd round is set, so let’s take a look:
- Atlanta/Cleveland. Atlanta will be a tougher out for Cleveland than many think.
- Miami/Toronto. I’m confident Miami takes this – Toronto struggled with Indiana. Somethin ain’t right there.
- OKC/San Antonio. San Antonio in six games – they’re gonna lose game two at home.
- Portland/Golden State. Clearly Golden State should take this, but Portland will take one at home, and Damian Lillard will thrill fans.
Welp, let’s get this month started!!!
