I’m listening to it rain on the windows right now. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Glad I got my lawn mowed. It’s going to rain for at least 5 days. Pity the farmers. We’ll have corn by 4th of July but field corn for cattle will have to be replanted. Don’t know why the difference in these types of corn. Strawberries aren’t liking this weather either. Too bad because I love frozen strawberry smoothies. My garden is late getting in too. Hoping for a break of some sort the first week of June. I took a week of vacation to TRY and get my tomato plants in at the very least.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
ALL STAR UPDATE
It’s 11:30 as I start writing this blog and I’ve been following the All Star race on Twitter. Actually I’m lost with all the new rules. Segment laps, inversions, mandatory pit stops, who has to pit and who doesn’t according to the drawing and the accidents. Glad I decided not to watch. Everyone on Twitter seems to be extremely confused. Greg Olsen from the Panthers is in the booth and picked 11. That means 11 cars will pit which hands the lead to Jimmie Johnson on the restart with Ky Bu beside him and both on old tires. Thinking I should’ve studied my rocket science in high school after all. Nuff of dat stuff.
BOOGITY BOOGITY BOOGITY LETS GO FORZA MOTORSPORTS 6
Just saw the ad for the Forza video game that’s coming out for Xbox One, Play Station and PC. There will be a NASCAR add on that lets you tour the world in your 2016 stock car. The video looks sharp. Really cool seeing the #48 racing with an F1 car and Super 8 cars. Even on rain. I just may have to check this out. It is after all rated E for everyone. I’m hoping there’s a cheaper steering wheel package than the game chair I saw for $500 but with free shipping. Really think this game will work well with my new 55″ flat screen. VRRR-OOOOMMMM!!!!
SPEAKING OF VIDEO GAMES
NASCAR Heat Evolution is being released by Dusenberry Martin Racing on Sept 13th for Xbox One, Play Station 4 & Windows PC. The top finishing Toyota driver in the All Star race will be on the cover. According to what I’m seeing on Twitter right now that would be Carl Edwards who finished 4th. Congrats to Carl. Never heard of this video game company but I may check out the game.
ROCKINGHAM SPEEDWAY HAS NEW OWNER
At the beginning of May the bidding was open to place a bid on this abandoned speedway. The winner is Billy Salas of BK Rock Holdings of Florida. He bid $3 million so he gets the keys to the speedway.
Kenneth Robinette, chairman of Richmond County Board of Commissioners says the county is ready to get behind anyone who buys the speedway and help get things rolling to create more jobs and commerce for the county. Everyone is hoping Mr Salas has a plan to bring racing back to the speedway.
KEVIN HARVICK SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH SHR
Speculation and rumor have run rampant since it was announced that Harvicks contract extension was up for discussions and that SHR would be driving Fords in 2017. Would he stay at SHR to drive a Ford when Chevy was the only thing he ever drove throughout his career?
Harvick kept telling the media that he had no plans of leaving Stewart Haas Racing. That didn’t stop the rumor mill from chugging away. The biggest rumor being that Hendrick Motorsports approached him with an offer to drive the #5 car. This rumor really caused a distraction for his crew and he felt the need to contact Kasey Kahne in the #5 for a chat.
Harvick told Kahne that no one from HMS contacted him ever. He said that whatever you’re working on keep doing it. Have trust in your team. Believe in your team. Kahne thought this was a pretty cool move on Harvicks part.
Harvick is off to a pretty good start in 2016 with 1 win, 5 Top 5’s, 9 Top 10’s and 688 laps led. He’s happy to be driving in a competitive car with a great team.
The Monster Mile really turned out to be a REAL monster. It almost looked like Talladega when the big one hits. I’m still in awe of what I watched. But here’s a run down.
Harvick had the pole due to qualifying being rained out. They lined up according to Fridays practice speeds. At 1:16 pm the green flag flew and off they went. Harvick took the lead. By lap 26 Danica went down a lap.
Lap 40 was a competition caution. Since it rained the day before this caution was a mandatory to check tire wear. Edwards comes out of the pits first but Harvick takes the lead from him.
Lap 119 is a caution for DiBenedetto wrecking. Hamlin gets a penalty for improper fueling. Edwards comes out first again from the pits. And he leads.
Lap 183 is a caution for Dillon. Something broke in the suspension and he went to the garage. Larson takes the lead on the restart.
Lap 213 Sorenson goes for a spin which causes others to check up and spin. Johnson spins. Harvick stops but taps Wise’s door. Hamlin stays out of the pits and gains the lead. McMurray speeding on pit road. Harvick and Johnson are 20th & 21st.
Keselowski takes the lead from Hamlin on lap 231.
Lap 241 Harvick has made it to 10th and Johnson is 17th. Mean while Larson is challenging for the lead.
Lap 270 Harvick is 6th and Johnson is 10th. Larson is still trying to find a way around Keselowski.
Lap 280 Larson finally gets by Keselowski for the lead but there’s a freak accident. Keselowski has contact with Dillon and tears off the right front quarter panel of his car. And now on lap 289 there’s a debris caution.
Larson still leads. With 75 to go Truex challenges for the lead. With 69 to go he uses a lap down car for a pick and takes the lead.
Caution with 58 laps to go. Stewart’s track bar mount breaks and punctures the oil pan. Johnson wins the race off pit road with a 2 tire stop.
Restart with 46 to go doesn’t go well. Johnson’s gear box is broke. He can’t shift and everyone runs over him. There goes both my fantasy teams.
But Danica is the Lucky Dog. She’s back on the lead lap. There were 18 cars involved in the wreck. Almirola thinks his pinky finger may be broken because it got caught in the steering wheel when it spun.
So after a red flag where all the cars stop while clean up takes place, yellow comes back out and the pits open. Some go to the garage and others just pit for lots of duct tape.
Restart with 41 to go. Kenseth is out front but Edwards loses control as Larson taps him and he goes nose first into the wall. Caution #12.
Now there are 25 cars on the race track. With 35 to go Kenseth leads them to the green flag with a very hungry Larson on his tail.
Larson and Elliott really try to get Kenseth but inexperience can’t beat the veteran driver. He wins with Larson and Elliott still trying to get him.Top 15 Finishers – Kenseth – Larson – Elliott – Kahne – Ku Bu – Keselowski – Hamlin – Blaney – Truex – Bayne – Menard – Bowyer – Danica – Stenhouse – Harvick
Kahne did not pass post race laser inspection. He was assessed a 15 point loss, his crew chief got a $25,000 fine and car owner Hendrick lost 15 owners points. They will not appeal.
So the All Star race is over according to Twitter. Logano has won the trophy, ring and huge million dollar card board check. But we’ll talk about that next week. Maybe I’ll watch it on NASCAR’s You Tube channel later this week. Will be nice on my flat screen.
Until then, I think I’ll build an Ark. My most handsome son and his family just texted me of their return to the Baltimore airport. They were in Florida for a week of sun, sailing and to visit his inlaws. I missed my cutie pies. Need my hugs and kisses.
You all have a safe weekend, and enjoy whatever activity is drawing your attention.
And I’m outta here…..=^!^=
