How many times have we said that we don’t want any BS in sports? No stupid drama, no diva crap, just playing the game and letting said game stand on its merits. Well my friends, there we are – Hockey. Stanley Cup Hockey is an anachronism, something that all sports were in the past. Steeped in tradition with reverence for its history with respect for the game, your teammates, and your opponents. It was X’s and O’s, playing the game, a lot less commercials, and playing as a team without drama.
Granted, the NHL pays for their refusal to sell out to the suits and the drama, but the hardcores absolutely love the sport and now I see why. It is unbelievably exciting and fun. I really hope that next year the Sharks can come back and maybe win it all.
Admittedly I had more than a passing interest as the Sharks made it all the way, but holy crap when I actually had time to sit down and watch the games, it was damn good watching. It had me on the edge of my seat!!! Think of it, when was the last time you could say that a sport got you fired up? I loved watching the Sharks run. I was skeptical and they proved me wrong. Damn, do I wish they could have taken two more games.
But one thing I take issue with is awarding the Conn Smythe Trophy to Crosby. I would say that it should have gone to all those who played that incredible defense throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
And then you have the complete polar opposite, NBA Basketball. Draymond Green with nut shots and mysteriously he gets suspended for Game five at home? Me thinks me smells a rat here and that rat is LeBron James. How is it that he can lay the wood to fellow NBA darling Steph Curry and nothing happens to him? Oh wait, he got a “T” after the game for his shenanigans with Draymond Green? Something doesn’t smell right.
Then there’s the officiating. I’ll say it again, I understand that it is a very tough game to ref, but if Hockey can do it with far less in terms of issues, why can’t you?
Meanwhile bandwagon fans – who can’t think for themselves – are being led by the nose to root for teams because they win rather than actually giving a shit about the product. Douche bags running around in Golden State gear, and when the next good team comes out, they’ll drop their GSW stuff for the new team of the five year period.
And don’t get me started on the whiny bitches…
Please NBA, regain some freaking control and the players need to regain some damn respect for the game and its fans.
I realize it might not be “cool” in 2016 to actually play the game and let it stand on its merits, but damn if we don’t have one sport that hasn’t sold out and where history, tradition, and respect still mean something. Absolute respect to you Hockey, you do it the right way – at least in my humble opinion.
