Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. How goes it this weekend before fire works and remembrance? Been doing lots of OT and chasin’ the grandkids too. Bought 3 scooters and started to put them together only to find out I needed some metric alan wrenches. Or however you spell that. Had to go to Home Depot with the offending screws to match them up with the right tools. Got 1 and a half scooters put together. I have a rather extensive collection of tools and was rather upset that none of my alan wrenches fit. It must be a chinese metric tool conspiracy of some sort meant to make me spend more money on more tools. It worked. I don’t know why I haven’t learnt my lesson in all these years that it’s just better to buy things already assembled.
Bought a new book this week called When Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. It’s about the funeral industry as written by a rather funny mortician that does You Tube videos. Look up Caitlyn Doughty on You Tube under Ask a Mortician. I read a quarter of the book so far.
So what of the land of Left Turns? Not a lot this week. The drivers had a nice 2 week vacation. Ku Bu got back from test driving F1 cars. He’ll be in a great mood this week for sure. Jimmie Johnson’s daughter out fished him. He posted pictures of her on Twitter. Kyle Larson went dirt track racing and won a race. So it’s now back to work.
Mike Wallace (Brother of Rusty & Kenny) got beat up pretty badly after a Rascal Flatts concert last weekend. He says he parked and there was a pick up truck with guys hanging out before the show that said hi and how’s it going? After the show there were more young guys around the truck and they were now drunk. Mike asked them how’s it going? How’d you like the show? That’s all he remembers because he got punched so hard it knocked him out.
His daughter tried to save him by shielding him but got kicked in the ribs. Mike suffered teeth being knocked out of place, black and blue eyes and other injuries. Police arrested 3 guys.
Kenny Wallace took to Twitter the next day with pictures of Mike’s injuries. I saw these pictures. Mike was definitely hurting.
The Pavilion that held the concert found out that one of the guys arrested was the son of a lawn service contractor they use and they terminated their services. Lucas Lawn & Landscaping released a letter saying that they were being unfairly targeted with verbal attacks online and that their business was in jeopardy from Kenny Wallace posting pictures on Twitter.
I saw the pictures of Mike and then I saw the pictures of the 3 guys that were arrested. No injuries to the 3 guys that I could see. Not even a bloody lip or scratch on any face. Will be watching how this turns out. Seems to me these boys picked the wrong guy to beat up.
And like I said, there’s not a whole lot of news cause all the drivers were on vacations. So we’ll just get right into Sonoma. Road course racing in California.
Racing in wine country this week. We’re doing lefts and rights. Hoping to stay on course and not fly off into a sand trap or tire wall. The smaller teams have a huge chance this week. Allmendinger is great on road courses. He needs that win to get into the Chase. He’s 20th in points. Not enough. Got to have that W.
Sonoma is tough on tires and rear axles. Mears lost his tire AND his rear axle with 12 to go last year. Goodyear says that they have the fix for that this year. They will be flipping tires around for some and assigning them to their spot on the car. No mixing and matching like at other tracks.
Crew chiefs work backwards from the end of the race when planning their pit strategy. Look for Paul Wolf (Keselowski’s CC) to do something contrarian and drastically different than everyone else. Tony Stewart says that once all the craziness from restarts gets worked out that you get into a rhythm and race the track.
Last year Truex got booted into the tires on lap 29 by Ragan. He finished next to last. Allmendinger had a fuel cell issue. Harvick fell off the jack during pit stops. Edwards wrecked. Johnson took a chance and did not pit during a late caution and Ky Bu caught him with 5 to go and won the race.
HARVICK – Had a top 10 at Michigan. If you noticed and got yourself to the Outback Steakhouse on Monday then you got a free Bloomin’ Onion. Top 10
KU BU – His top 10 at Michigan was hard fought but like I’ve been saying all along, you’re looking at a new improved and way more focused KU BU this year. Top 10….in fact I’m calling for a W.
KY BU – Hit a jack rabbit in practice. Caused some duct work damage but He’s ready to go. Another win? Top 10
STEWART – Got his first top 10 at Michigan this year. This is a skill track. I expect a Top 10.
NEWMAN – Dude is a bull in a china closet. Top 10
EDWARDS – POLE…….Top 10
JOHNSON – Time to get it together. Top 10
LOGANO – Sneaky pick. Top 10
TRUEX – Qualified 3rd. Is the bad luck gone yet? Top 10
ALLMENDINGER – Qualified 2nd. Top 10
MS DANICA – Qualified 11th. I’ll give her a Top 25.
PATRICK CARPENTIER is making an appearance in the #32. He’s like $10 in Fantasyland. He might give you a Top 25 too.
So there we have it folks. No rain in sight for Sonoma. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
And I’m outta here……=^!^=
