For every girl who has ever picked up a basketball and every man or woman who has ever coached a girls team, today marks the passing of the woman who’s sheer ferocious will played a gigantic part in raising women’s basketball to where it is now.
Coach Pat Summitt died today at the age of 64 after a nearly 5 year fight with early onset dementia. From her legions of players, assistants to those who, like me, were inspired by her no-nonsense approach to coaching the game, there …are few words that will do justice to what she meant to everyone.
I only hope all the girls that I coached realize just how big a deal it was for them to play in a time where Pat Summitt was there advancing the game for generations to come.
RIP Coach Summitt, and thank you.
