Author Note: I am a 30 year Sacramento Kings fan who DOES NOT drink from the vast vat of purple kool-aid in Sacramento, but I do want to see this team start moving in the right direction if for no other reason because ALL (not some) of these fantastic fans (and they are truly that) deserve to see some success. In no way is this blog to defend the Kings, they 100% deserve to be crucified, but…
The media double standard absolutely amazes me. Try as I might, I can’t get away from the NBA and the media.
No sooner does the NBA draft end and the Sacramento Kings are absolutely crucified by at the very least Deadspin and ESPN, and rightfully so. ESPN is absolutely blasting the Kings draft, with Deadspin going so far as to call for abolishing the draft using Sacramento’s ineptness to bolster their argument.
That would be fine – and I agree – Ineptly run organizations or those who tank should not be rewarded for their pathetic leadership.
But I have question for the tough guys in the media, particularly ESPN who it is said is having an absolute field day on Sacramento this morning:
- Where was this level of outrage at the Knicks who have been pretty much an abortion under James Dolan?
- Where is the outrage at Brooklyn who literally handed Boston the keys to power in the east outside of Cleveland with that ignorant trade for Garnett and Pierce – mortgaging their future?
- Where is the outrage over Philly INTENTIONALLY tanking to gain picks?
- Has anybody heard criticism of the Lakers sucking for the past two years, other than what I would call mild criticism of Jim Buss?
- What about Phoenix?
- Haven’t heard word one on the implosion of the Chicago Bulls.
So what, is the criticism of franchises only reserved for what Deadspin calls “dull cowtowns?”
Deadspin is absolutely right about the Kings ownership and management and in the interest of being totally honest, I’m at the end of my rope with the Kings. I absolutely concede the point.
But the double standard that that the media shows is absolutely laughable, and if I was a Bitter Ole Bastard and was anything like my old self, I would call the media a bunch of punk ass cowards because they are afraid to attack the large media markets such as New York, LA, Boston, and Philly. But that’s the old me, the new me just laughs at your double standard.
Make no mistake, I don’t disagree with media attacking the Kings – they absolutely deserve it, but the media shoots down their very own limited credibility when they seemingly refuse to attack the other franchises in the very same boat.
When you all step up to the plate and attack the big markets like you do Sacramento, then you might actually have some damn credibility. Until then, you’re nothing more than the equivalent of Twitter Trolls, no matter how right you are about the Sacramento Kings.
