Well hey there!!! Howdy dooooo. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Boy do I feel much better. This week was a bit on the hot and muggy side again but I got through it better than last week. One of my sisters got married Saturday. Quite warm with a hint of a possible thunder boomer but it passed. The day ended well.
So now it’s time to check in on the land of Left Turns……( =
DALE JR WON’T BE DRIVING @ NEW HAMPSHIRE….THAT’S CRAZY TALK!!!!
Well he’s not. Dale Jr was experiencing what he thought might be a sinus infection and when the meds didn’t make it go away he was off to the neurological specialist for a check up. Turns out after wrecking at Michigan and Daytona he was now experiencing concussion symptoms. Bad enough to make him have to sit out this week. Alex Bowman has been slotted into the car.
AND AND AND……if Dale Jr can’t drive next week at the Brickyard 500 in Indianapolis the one and only Jeff Gordon has said he will come out of retirement to drive the #88. That’s more crazy talk. We have to wait till Wednesday of next week for that report to come down.
Lots of good is coming from Dale Jr being in the racing concussion spot light. It’s got everyone in racing talking and there’s even some more drivers donating their brains to science.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen retired 45 years ago but Dale Jr inspired him to donate his brain to the Concussion Legacy Foundation. The 81 year old NASCAR retiree suffers from dementia at this time. His daughter thinks that he never took the time to heal after big wrecks so the hits accumulated. Of course safety equipment was not back then what it is today.
Dario Franchitti also joined into the donation conversation. He retired in 2013 after a rather ferocious wreck in Houston. He thinks that his concussions were accumulative as well. He has 3 Indy 500 wins in his IndyCar career and says Dale Jr is being very brave to come forward and admit to concussion symptoms.
POCONO RACEWAY DEEMED NOT GUILTY
On August 5, 2012 Brian Zimmerman was struck and killed by lightning in the parking lot behind the front stretch grandstands right after the race. Other fans were struck and hurt as well. Brians widow and the other fans filed a lawsuit against Pocono Raceway.
This week a jury found Pocono Raceway and NASCAR not negligent for Brian’s death or the injuries to the other fans. NASCAR said they texted out the storm was coming. Brian’s widow said he didn’t have a smart phone.
Just really liked this picture. I really like Ku Bu to win this week too. Just a thought…( =
NASCAR LOOKING TO CHANGE PIT SPEED MONITORING
At Kentucky last week which I missed and can’t give my opinion on, Truex was 2nd coming into the pits. He got on the left side of Harvick’s car as he pulled into his pits and was penalized for passing Harvick on the left. This is a rule in the books but I don’t understand how he could be passing when he clearly stopped in his pit stall. Truex called out NASCAR for singling him out and not getting anyone else all season long till now. Video footage proved Truex was right about others doing it.
NASCAR said they will address this in the drivers meeting on Sunday before the race. They’re also thinking of newer ways to monitor this on pit road along with the pit speeds and may roll out new rules for this race. It’s a wait and see for now.
I was too sick to watch this race and I had zero time to watch the rerun on You Tube this week. So I’ll just tell you Mr Keselowski won.
Top 15 finishers – Keselowski – Edwards – Newman – Ku Bu – Stewart – Biffle – McMurray – Kenseth – Harvick – Truex – Bayne – Dale Jr – Kahne – Hamlin
NEW HAMPSHIRE PREVIEW
So Mr Johnson has the pole. Not sure where he’s been lately but it hasn’t been up front much. In fact he wrecked last week and ended up 32nd. OUCH!!! Not good. He’s dropped to 9th in the standings but his 2W’s just might save him.
Mr Keselowski now is a lock for the Chase. With 4W’s and being the only driver too far ahead of 31st place Brian Scott to not make the Chase.
Allmendinger wrecked pretty bad last week and hurt his thumb. Xrays proved there were no broken bones so he will race this week.
Edwards lost his pit stall choice after acquiring his 4th inspection failure this year. Because this track is so flat track position is everything. It’s a drivers track. You have to manage those brakes and tires. There is no banking to help you pass. So you’ll be passing in the pits and during restarts. I didn’t see which pit stall Edwards got. So he’ll need some attrition in the stall in front of and behind him to help with his quest to win.
Five fastest cars in final practice were…Elliott – Hamlin – Kenseth – Harvick – Ky Bu. Most laps run were Ku Bu with 60 laps & Hamlin with 59 laps.
JOHNSON – The guy that’s always a threat to win is kind of on my at arms length list. He has pole but hasn’t been doing a whole lot lately. I won’t commit to a top 10. Although he SHOULD.
HARVICK – Absolutely a Top 10
KU BU – Mr Focused this year. Doesn’t self destruct when things aren’t going his way like in years passed. Top 10 all the way and a W this week is my prediction.
HAMLIN – Feast or famine with this guy. HE SHOULD get a top 10 but it’s time for you to call your local psychic if you’re thinking of picking him.
KESELOWSKI – Hottest driver right now. He’s got 2 W’s in a row. Top 10
TRUEX – This guy is star crossed. Dominates almost every lap at Charlotte and then has pit issues, wrecks and penalties. He’s a excellent driver and I will say Top 10
KY BU – Won the Xfinity race on Saturday. Top 10
NEWMAN – He’s creeping up on the Chase spot and may just get in without a win like last year. Was 3rd at Kentucky. Top 10
LOGANO – May just sneak up on a Top 10
KENSETH – Fast in practice. Does that equate to the race too? Not sure but he did finish 6th last year. Top 10
So there we are folks. I apologize for my absence last week but the heat & humidity really knocked me for a loop. Just couldn’t recover enough to write anything. I’m back in form and ready to go. You all have a fabulous weekend.
And I’m outta here…..=^!^=
