Baby you can drive my car. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Summer is a winding down fast. Just got back from the E-Town fair with my grandkids. I got a few bites of fair food. Those boys are eating machines. Did find some awesome burritos. A couple guys that didn’t speak much English but they had the goods. Ate a very hot burrito that took my breath away and then I went back for another. Those boys can cook for me any day. I should’ve bought some of that sauce. The grandkids won’t touch that stuff.
Found out last week that Otter Boxes are the real deal. Went out to eat and when I got out of my car my phone fell out into a puddle beside my car in the pouring rain. About 20 minutes later my most handsome son walks in and hands me my phone. Took the Otter Box off and the phone was barely wet. Money well spent. Thank you Otter Box for saving my phone from me.
Tomatoes from my garden make tasty sandwiches. A little mayo, salt and pepper on toasted bread. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Grew a very interesting one this year. bright purple shoulders and red on the bottom. I sat in the yard and ate those. Will get that one again.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
DALE JR’S RECOVERY CONTINUES
That’s right folks, Dale Jr will not be in the car tomorrow or next week. Alex Bowman will be subbing this week and Jeff Gordon will be back in the car next week for Darlington. Nobody knows what will be after that. Hopefully Dale gets a clean bill of health for the last 11 races. It means that if Dale is still in the top 30 in points that he has 1 last chance at Richmond to get a win before the Chase starts at Chicagoland.
KESELOWSKI DRIVES SWEEPSTAKES
Well actually he drove a replica of Sweepstakes. The real car is in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Henry Ford drove the 1901 Ford in a 10 mile race with 40 entries in it on October 10, 1901. He and another guy were the only ones to finish the race because of all the break downs. Henry needed financial support and got it from that win to start the Ford Motor Co. in 1903. Keselowski did a symbolic lap around the Michigan race track and thought he may have hit 50 to 60 mph.
KURT BUSCH’S STREAK IS OVER
The last count was 5901 laps on the lead lap at the end of every race this season. Well add 372 to that. But on lap 372 which was a restart at Bristol Kurt made a bold move for the lead and it just didn’t stick. He made contact with Logano and Keselowski. Both Kurt and Keselowski wrecked out and into the garage. He got his first DNF since Kansas Oct 2014. That takes commitment and focus.
The night race at Bristol turned into a day race due to rain. Seems to be a theme lately. They got 49 laps in and half of that was under yellow till they pulled the plug and decided on Sunday afternoon. Sorry for the fans that had to go home. The stands were packed Saturday night. Sparsely seated on Sunday. But race they did.
So any way. Lap 49 sees Ky Bu in the lead with Elliott – Blaney – Hamlin – Kenseth – Truex – Edwards – Gordon – Logano – Allmendinger making up the rest of the top 10. A competition caution is scheduled for lap 86.
On lap 86 Newman takes 2 tires only and now has the lead. He doesn’t hold Ky Bu back for long. By lap 102 he takes the lead bake.
And it’s the Ky Bu show for a while. Stewart has o make unscheduled pit stops for what he thinks is a tire issue.
Lap 255 is a caution. Newman has scraped the wall hard. Stewart goes to the garage for a new wheel hub. Ky Bu takes the lead with Harvick right behind him. Johnson and Cassill make contact on the restart and there’s a lot of tire smoke. Johnson believes his power steering has gone out.
Around lap 283 Stewart returns to the track.
Harvick to the lead on lap 286. But a caution on lap 308 ruins that. Ky Bu gets out first. He’s having issues though on the restart. Keeps the lead but is complaining of something being broken. Maybe it’s the right rear shock.
Lap 332 Hamlin pits for a loose wheel. Ky Bu is still complaining that something is broken and is trying to diagnose the problem.
Lap 348 Harvick is back in the lead and it’s very apparent there is a major problem with Ky Bu’s car. Ten laps later he goes for a spin and Allgaier hits him hard. He then spins up the track and collects Truex & Larson. So pretty much if Ky Bu would’ve gone in a lap or 2 earlier he’d have avoided body damage and wrecking 3 other cars. DUH!!!!
Lap 372 is the restart with Logano in the lead. Here comes Ku Bu. He makes a move for the lead and can’t make the car stick. He makes contact with Logano and Keselowski. The wreck is now on. There are 11 cars involved. Larson, Blaney, Keselowski, Johnson, Scott, Kenseth, Elliott, and Menard all have damage. Kenseth and Ku Bu get DNF’s. Everyone else fixes their car enough to keep themselves in the race.
Logano leads them to the green but Harvick is hot on the bumper of Logano and soon gets that lead back.
With 85 laps to go Bowyer loses a brake rotor and he’s in the wall. Logano is in the pits getting tape on the nose of his car along with tires.
With 77 to go Hamlin leads them to the green and again Harvick is right there. Seven laps later he takes the lead from Hamlin.
At 67 laps to go a caution comes out for a pop up shower. The cars are brought down pit road to park. It’s now 7:12 pm. Right around the time the race was supposed to start Saturday night. They sit for about 10 minutes and back out they go.
Harvick leads them to the green flag with 51 to go. Dillon tries but can’t take it away.
At 7:38 pm Harvick wins. Harvick & Stewart do synchronized burnouts in celebration.
Top 15 finishers – Harvick – Stenhouse – Hamlin – Dillon – Buescher – Edwards – Johnson – McMurray – Allmendinger – Logano – Gordon – Bayne – Kahne – Almirola – Elliott
PURE MICHIGAN 400 PREVIEW
The drivers were here in Michigan in June. The lower down force package was in effect. It will be in effect again. We have high speeds, fuel mileage strategy games, and shorter rear spoilers. Squirrelly fast with trash on the grill. Don’t know why but there’s always trash floating around on this track.. I think the guys will have a good notebook to check on for their day. Look for Keselowski and Wolf to work the contrarian magic they do. BOWMAN –
Last practice top 5 drivers – Hamlin – Elliott – Johnson – Kahne – Keselowski
It rained Saturday. The truck race there was a couple hours late getting started. Not sure about Sunday’s weather. I’m hoping it’s sunny. PLEAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Any how…..
LOGANO – had the pole and won the June race AND he has pole for today. Trend? I’m thinking Top 10
HARVICK – Top 5 in June. He add another Top 10.
EDWARDS – Top 10 last August here and top 10 in June race. Doable for sure. Top 10
ELLIOTT – Bill’s boy. He had a 2nd here in June. Expect another Top 10
DILLON – A switch seems to be turned on for this guy. If the Chase were to start today he’d have the 13th spot. And that’s even without a win. Can’t leave those things to chance. Top 10.
JOHNSON – He’s been in so much trouble and yet he managed to pull out a 7th place last week. He starts 2nd today. I’ll say Top 10.
HAMLIN – Wrecked in practice but qualified 3rd. Do I trust him? NEVER!! He’s had 12 penalties this year and 8 of them were speeding on pit road. The guy finds more ways to screw himself out of a win or good finish. I maintain he should but you need to consult your local psychic.
STEWART – Feeling good about my most handsome Knight of the Mobile 1. Top 10
LARSON – Needs a great finish. He’s 18th if the Chase started today. He’s been knocking on the victory lane’s door along with Dillon. Top 10
TRUEX – Top 10
McMURRAY – Top 10
So there you go folks. It’s sunday. Footballs back. And yes Scott, I think Dale Jr will be back. He just might not make it into the Chase. He’s sinking fast in the points. Hope everyone is having an awesome day.
And I’m outta here =^!^=
