Hi folks. Haven’t been around much because well, the fact is that after five long years I got a job. Mrs. B.O.B. has been out on fires for 35 consecutive days now with no sign of when she’s coming home and adding that in plus my stuff with veterans organizations and yeah, I’ve been a bit busy.
So what’s going on in the NFL world?
Today will be fun as there’s three games I’ll watch: San Diego at Minny to see the new stadium, Cincinnati @ Jax because I want to see the new Jags, and then Arizona at Houston as I want to see if the Cards can wake up out of their slumber.
Colin Kaepernick. Does Kaepernick have a point, regardless of how inflammatory he was?
Nobody can deny there’s problems out there. Nobody can deny that there has to be a major review of police training procedures with respect to use of deadly force. Nobody can deny that crime is bad and people are scared. Nobody can deny that there has to be a way to bring policing and community together. And nobody can deny the coarseness and lack of respect out there. But words can’t fix this – only actions can. That’s why this type of inflammatory rhetoric helps nothing – it only makes the problems worse.
At the same time I have to ask the question: other than words, what has Kaepernick done in the community? I ask that not mockingly, only to see if his deeds match his words. Has he contributed to make things better? Has he gone into Hunters Point in San Francisco or the bad parts of San Jose or Oakland to see if he can try to come up with something better, maybe being a role model or big brother to those folks – because nothing sure seems to be changing based on words.
And then there’s the other side of the discussion: we have to take a look at the hypocrisy of those who are wrapping themselves in the flag. Do these people jump the shit of those who ignore or disrespect the anthem at games regardless of level? Do you hit them with the “lack of respect” card? How many times at a High School, JC, College game, or even at a bar or Buffalo Wild Wings when the anthem is being played has anybody paid attention? In other words, what about the fans who just get loud, don’t take their hat off, or stand in reverent silence while the performance is done? I get pissed, but I’m part of the problem because I say nothing.
And by the way, there’s persistent rumors that Kaepernick isn’t exactly Mr. Popular in the locker room either, then now this morning I wake up to a rumor that there may have been a potential Kaepernick for Bridgewater trade being discussed with Minny which his comments apparently killed.
Uh Minnesota, if this is true you need to have your head examined.
San Francisco. It has become clear what the game plan is against Chip Kelly, play ball control. Chip Kelly will be out of the league in two years.
Tony Romo. Well, the myopic Cowboy fans are gonna get their wish and it appears Dak Prescott is gonna be the starter while Romo faces 6-10 weeks down with a broken vertebrae in his back. It may be a good thing for Dallas. Get the kid some experience – next year was the target anyway.
Ben Watson. The injury gremlin that made his home in Baltimore last year apparently likes the city of Crabs. They aren’t done with the Ravens as TE Ben Watson went out with an Achilles tear last night.
Aqib Talib. That hit he laid on the Ram QB going out of bounds last night was uncalled for.
At what point does Denver and the NFL sit this punk down?
Denver QB Situation. And what now Denver? Siemian is about average, and now Paxton Lynch has rose up. And what of Mark Sanchez? Will we see him on the waiver wire or will he be the emergency QB?
Speaking of QB’s… Teams might want to look at the waiver wire or make some calls as that kid Joe Callahan in Green Bay is impressive, and as crazy as this sounds in San Francisco, Jeff Driskel may generate more interest then Colin Kaepernick.
Buffalo Bills. Good Lord is there a team in the NFL with less expectations than Buffalo? Injuries and suspensions have wiped out the hopes of the fan base. And then there’s the Ryan brothers…
New York Giants. Good to see the New York Giants offense made an appearance in the end zone finally actually scoring.
Tennessee. Watch the Titan bandwagon grow with that incredible run game they have.
Cleveland. I’ve gone on record as liking the housecleaning they have done and while I don’t expect them to be competitive, I also don’t like the fact that they serve as Bill Belichick’s Minor League roster. Trading Barkevious Mingo to the Patriots is one thing, but how many times has the Pats gone and got players out of Cleveland?
College Football. Cal and Hawaii kicked off the CFB season by flying to the land down under. Too bad it ended up that Hawaii got their asses kicked. I wonder if those crazy Aussies were in the stands calling players less than men for wearing padding during their football game.
Comedy Central Roast. It appears as if Rob Lowe is next on the list to be roasted by Jeffrey Ross and the Gang. And now Peyton Manning has found something to do with himself as he will be a part of it.
In Conclusion. Football is back, my juices are flowing, and all is right with the world, as much as it can be. I couldn’t be happier. Now it’s time to settle in for a 10AM game.
Enjoy the day…
