This game was entertaining, exciting, frustrating and heartbreaking.
It was entertaining in that there was 50 points scored, exciting as the Jaguars took the lead, frustrating that officials let the Packers defensive backs hold onto the Jaguars receivers, and heartbreaking when Green Bay stopped us at the 14 yard line.
I had the Jaguars winning this game, and after the game was over, I was scratching my head wondering why we didn’t win. Our offense is just as good as Green Bays. So what was the cause? Then it dawned on me, where’s the PASS RUSH!! Aaron Rogers was able to sit in the pocket, take his cell phone out, call Domino’s Pizza, have it delivered, while waiting for a receiver to get open eat a slice of pizza, then throw the ball after wiping his chin of pizza sauce. So, as it was in 2015 and 2014 this line is no different, only more expensive. There were bright spots on defense Prince Amukamara stood out.
Another bright spot was Jacksonville did not get blown out by a superior team, or a Super Bowl caliber team!
With this loss the Jacksonville Jaguars are now 0-5 in season opening games.
Offense the good:
4th down efficiency.
Twice in the game Jacksonville took the lead (10-7 and 17-14)
Offense the bad:
4th and 3 with 14 seconds left and you’re going to pass the ball. Bortles had a least 5 yards of space to run the ball.
Brad Linder fumbles the ball.
Line gives up 3 sacks.
Defense the good:
Defense the bad:
Defense gave up a touchdown with 56 seconds after the offense takes the lead.
While Jared Odrick got credit for a sack, it was not due rushing the QB.
Were my ears bad, but did anyone hear Dante Fowler’s name mention beside during the introductions of the defense? Yep on a too many men on the field penalty. Other than that all was quiet.
Special Teams the Good:
Jason Myers was 3-3 on field goals (26,39,50 yards).
Mistake the cost the game:
Brad Linder fumbles the ball at Jacksonville 29 yard line.
5 plays later (10:33) Rogers passes to Randal Cobb which was incomplete. Green Bay challenged too many men on the field and the play is reverse.
2 plays later Green Bay Scores.
Another one could have been the one near the end of the 1st half:
(1:09) Green Bay receives the ball at 25 yard line. Johnathan Cyprien called for pass interference. Packers get the ball at the Jaguars 45 yard line.
(:20) At the Jacksonville 29 yard line Aaron Rogers throws a touchdown pass to Adams.
No pass rush what-so-ever.
Concession Stands at EverBank Field The Bad:
You knew for over a month that this game was a sellout, so there was no reason the concession stands in a lot of areas ran out of water, Gatorade, and beer. To top it off, you had people waiting on lines for up to 20 minutes just to tell the fans you were out of said items. How about putting up sold out signs of the items that are out.
During the preseason games, which were at night, temperature in the 70’s the concessioners were in the stands selling drinks, and stuff. When the temperature was 91 degrees not one person came around selling drinks.
Five Star Players:
63,179 attended the game. Sold out!
5 targets for 5 receptions, 64 yards, 1 touchdown.
2 targets for 2 receptions, 48 yards.
15 targets for 6 receptions, 73 yards.
Packer defenders were all over him. Tugging, hanging and grabbing.
39 yards rushing and 1 touchdown, 30 yards receiving
I was getting upset about how the refs were calling the game. But, as much as we don’t like it, we won’t get the respect of the refs until this team is good. Green Bay, New England, Denver, teams like them get the calls, or in our case, against us, the no calls.
This game should teach the Jaguars that they can hang with any team in the NFL. I was not as disappointed as I thought I would be. There is still plenty of time to win the division.
