The Jacksonville Jaguars flew down to San Diego to take on the Chargers and it was a game that can be summed up in one word PATHETIC!!! How can a team that was very competitive against the Green Bay Packers lose 38-14 to a team that did not have their best wide receiver available to play?
The Jaguars were never in the game and the way they played seemed to validate that. What makes matters worse is the Jaguars are in last place in the AFC South. To make it even worse is, those teams who start out 0-2 have a 12% chance of making the playoffs.
Offense the good:
Nothing good. Had more total yards than Chargers but they were junk yards.
Offense the bad:
Bortles picked off 2 times and 1 lost fumble.
Defense the good:
3 sacks. All after the Chargers took a 21-0 lead.
Defense the bad:
I know I put down under the good 3 sacks, but let’s face it they were meaningless. The Chargers had already blown us away.
Special Teams the Good:
Special Teams the Bad:
Jason Myers missed a 50 yard field goal. Had made 16 straight.
Mistake the cost the game:
It may not have cost us the game in general, but there were way too many penalties, 13 in all for 93 yards. The Chargers has 5 first downs from Jaguar penalties.
Five Star Players:
6 targets for 6 receptions, 115 yards, 2 touchdown.
102 yards rushing 1 touchdown.
220 yards passing and 4 touchdowns.
1 sack, 1 forced fumble.
1 target for 1 reception, 15 yards and 1 touchdown. This is he 1st career TD. Congrats Corey!!
Stay positive. There are still 14 games to go and anything can happen, right?
Better yet, did we as fans, and the beat reporters who cover the Jaguars, over-hype or over-rate the team? Just asking those fans who know more than me, and believe me there are a bunch of you, at the place where I work, and the Facebook pages I visit and post on, like Jacksonville Jaguar Fans, Forever Jaguars and WE ARE JAGUARS.
There is talent on this team. Yet this team, in more ways than we liked to admit, is no different than the past several years but it has cost the team more money. Missed tackles, no interceptions, no blitzing, and penalties are things that should have been correct by now.
Frustration from the fans is growing real fast!
I will say, that maybe it is time for a change. Where is the new and improved defense? The pass rush was a non-factor for first 24:38, and by that time the Chargers were running away with no end in sight.
Sometimes it’s hard to say, but maybe it might be time for Gus Bradley to go at the by-week or definitely at the end of the season. Sure he was a genius as a defensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks, but he had the talent to do what he did. With Jacksonville he was the ideal coach, a player’s coach, who would teach and nurture the young players. He also knew that his won/loss record would be dismal considering the Jaguars were going to build from the ground up, the only real way to rebuild the team. But now the team needs to have a coach who is a player’s coach during practice, but has the fury on the sidelines to work the refs, pump up the coaches, and jump on the players when they make a mistake during the game.
This my opinion and I am sticking by it.
The next games is against the Baltimore Ravens, 2-0 and in 1st place in the AFC North. Flacco has thrown 3 touchdown passes all to WR Mike Wallace, and also has 2 interceptions. The Ravens do not have a rushing TD. The Jaguars have scored 37 points yet have given up 65. Bortles has thrown 3 TD’s and has 3 interceptions. Yeldon has rushed for a TD, while Julius Thomas, Marcedes Lewis and Corey Grant each have a receiving TD.
