Got me a Tom Petty concert rolling on You Tube. Still have the windows open. That fresh air is awesome after all the heat and humidity of the summer. Kind of cold getting dressed in the mourning but quite refreshing. Leaves are starting to turn too. Need to get out with my camera and get some pictures of my favorite time of year.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
NASCAR RELEASES UPDATES ON 2017 RULES
Some stuff has been added to the rules package for 2017. Roof hatches will be manditory at Super Speedways. All other races will be optional. Spoiler heights at Super Speedways will be 3.5″ and all others will be 2.375″ unless other wise stated. Energy absorbing material will be added to the toe board in the drivers cockpit area. NASCAR is trying to restrict movement in the rear axle so mandates have been issued for that. The holes in the restrictor plate will go from 57/64 to 7/8 inches. There will be rear spoiler changes. A tapered rear deck fin. Drivers who were out due to medical reasons will be allowed extra testing.
So NASCAR is ever changing as usual. Got to keep the ball moving so you can’t get too comfy.
MARTINSVILLE IS LIGHTING UP IN 2017
It’s Martinsville’s 70th anniversary in 2017 and the candles are not the only thing that will be lighting up. There will be $5 million put towards LED lighting around the track. This will begin right after the October 30th Goody’s Fast Relief 500.
Martinsville will be the first motor sports venue to have this lighting. It is supposed to be more efficient and better quality than traditional halide lights. The tv broadcast should be better because of the LED’s.
What a surprise or should I say head scratcher that race was. Lots of tire failures. They were unraveling. Harvick had the pole for this race and took the lead straight away.
On lap 12 Elliott took the lead. A competition caution was called for on lap 25. Penalty after penalty came from this stop. Kenseth, Almirola, Menard and Jefferey Earnhardt had crew members over the wall too soon. Annett was speeding.
Elliott brings them back to green. Lap 50 top 5 is Elliott – Ky Bu – Bowman – Harvick – Edwards
Lap 62 is a caution. Bowman blows a left front tire and hits the wall taking Mears with him to the garage. Keselowski is penalized for his crew members being over the wall too soon. Elliott leads them back to green.
Lap 82 top 5 is Elliott – Harvick – Edwards – Ky Bu – Larson. Lap 89 Ky Bu comes to pit road for a tire issue. Larson comes to pit road about 15 laps later for a tire issue. He said he felt it unravel.
Lap 111 green flag pit stops start. On lap 117 caution comes out because Logano’s tire went down and he hit the wall. On the restart Johnson leads them to green but Hamlin grabs the lead. Top 5 is Hamlin – Johnson – Keselowski – Buescher – Bowyer.
Lap 155 a caution comes out for Logano hitting the wall again and Harvick is slow on the track. In the pits Harvick’s team is checking the ECU unit for a computer error. He says he smells oil. He finally goes to the garage as does Logano.
Hamlin leads them to green. the top 5 is Hamlin – Johnson – Keselowski – Elliott – McMurray.
On lap 176 Johnson finally takes the lead from Hamlin.
Lap 203 Biffle and Allmendinger to pit road for tire issues. Top 5 is Johnson – Elliott – Hamlin – Newman – Keselowski.
An oil pump bearing is identified as the cause for Harvick’s day being ended.
Lap 253 Allmendinger is in the wall after his tire fails. Caution. Johnson is off pit road first and leads them to green. On the restart Truex gets into Dillons rear and he goes for a spin taking Elliott, Menard, Biffle, Edwards, Blaney, Ku Bu, Scott and Ragan with him. RED FLAG comes out for clean up.
After clean up and the restart it’s Johnson – Hamlin – Newman – Kenseth – Truex as the top 5. Logano is finally back on track minus 79 laps.
Lap 308 Hamlin’s motor goes bye bye. Kenseth beats everyone off pit road. Truex stalls on pit road. His digital dash went out and then the car stalled. Johnson takes the lead on the restart and never looks back.
Ky Bu and Larson were both penalized 30 minutes off practice at Kansas for swerving on the cool down lap after the race.
Top 15 finishers – Johnson – Kenseth – Kahne – Newman – Larson – Ky Bu – Keselowski – Stewart – McMurray – DANICA – Edwards – Truex – McDowell – Almirola
Another 1.5 mile track. It’s a D shaped oval with 267 laps for 400.5 miles of racing. Truex has been really good at mile and a half tracks this year. He’s led 817 laps which is twice as much as the next guy. No rain in Kansas that I know of. Good weather for once. Ky Bu won the Xfinity race on Saturday. Ku Bu will be starting from the back after crashing in the last minutes of the last practice. The 5 fastest in last practice were Kenseth – Larson – Ku Bu – Elliott – Ky Bu. Harvick and Stewart put up the fastest laps at 183.7 mph.
HARVICK – Two weeks in a row a part failure has take him out. It’s just been made public that HMS and SHR have not really shared info even though SHR gets their equipment from HMS. Now SHR will be with Ford next year. So I’m a wondering about…you know….sabotage. Makes me wonder. Top 10
TRUEX – Like I said, he’s got 817 laps led at mile and a half tracks. In the May Kansas race he led 172 laps but a bad pit stop sent him back in at 52 laps to go when he was leading. Top 10
BLANEY – Top 10 in the May race and last years October race. Got to give credit. Top 10
KY BU – Won the May race and had a top 5 in October last year. Top 10
KENSETH – Has pole. got wrecked out of last years race but had a top 5 in this May’s race. Top 10
JOHNSON – A late pit road penalty took him out of contention in the May race. But it’s go time now. Top 10
KAHNE – He’s another Hamlin. Call your local psychic.
LOGANO – Last years winner. Top 10
KESELOWSKI – Top 10
LARSON – Top 10
So there’s my top 10. Hope all is well in The Gab world. My Petty concert is winding down. Nice stuff he’s playing. Not the usual offerings. I’d love to see him again. Yes Tom, You wreck me baby.
And I’m outta here…=^!^=
