It’s bluegrass night with Old And In The Way again. Apparently Jerry Garcia played a mean banjo too. Been waiting on the rain here in central PA. So far it’s been sprinkles here and there. Good that the storm didn’t hit as hard as they predicted. Counting my blessings right now.
Of course racing activities in Charlotte were postponed this weekend due to Hurricane Matthew. The Xfinity race scheduled for Friday night will be right after the Sprint Cup race that was moved to Sunday as well. So it’s the Sprint Cup race @ 12pm and then the Xfinity race at 4:30pm.
There isn’t a whole lot of news this week in NASCAR. Nobody got popped on a drug test, nobody took a knee during the National Anthem, nobody got fired and of course it’s Pink-tober so there’s that. Except for Hurricane Matthew, all is quiet in the land of Left Turns.
Dale Jr is now driving a simulator and claiming he’s way better than 5 weeks ago but the balance issues still plague him. Walking through the garage area and signing autographs still bring on symptoms. This past week he was to give fans who paid $2000 rides on the track but he couldn’t do it. A call to Tony Stewart fixed that. I saw a thank you video on Twitter from Dale Jr thanking Stewart for saving the day. All moneys from the rides went to the Dale Jr Foundation.
The drivers are asking NASCAR to come up with a reward for winning the regular season point race. A trophy isn’t going to cut it either. Some think a bye into the 2nd round would be a good reward. NASCAR is thinking about it.
MONSTER MILE RECAP
So Joe Walsh thanked the troops for their service and gave the command to fire engines. Keselowski brought them to the green flag. He easily took the lead. But by lap 6 Truex was scooting on by to take that lead away.
On lap 20 Ky Bu takes over the lead. Your top 5 is Ky Bu – Truex – Harvick – Keselowski – Kenseth
On lap 36 we got our first caution. Harvick has broken his track bar mount. Larson’s car quits and he has to be pushed to pit road. He gets penalized for too many crew guys over the wall. The electrical issue gets resolved but the damage to his Chase hopes in done. He’s now 39th and minus 3 laps.
Ky Bu retakes the lead.
On lap 64 McMurray thinks he may have a loose wheel. Dillon is having handling issues.
Lap 80 Harvick is back on track. Your top 5 is Ky Bu – Truex – Kenseth – Johnson – Keselowski
Lap 130 sees Truex retake the lead. Buescher and Allmendinger are fighting over realestate. Ky Bu now complaining of handling issues and Truex is putting people down a lap. Only 19 cars on lead lap as of lap 150.
Lap 161 McMurray is reporting a vibration. Dillion is now 1 point ahead of him and in the last transfer spot.
Lap 167 McMurray reports he’s down a cylinder. Larson is in 30th and minus 3 laps.
Lap 178 is a caution for Larson. His right front tire blew. Chase spot is now done. McMurray afraid he won’t be able to maintain minimum speed on restart.
Truex lead them to the green flag on lap 190. Johnson takes the lead but 3 laps later McMurray loses his motor and his Chase spot.
Johnson keeps the lead. On lap 211 your top 5 is Johnson – Truex – Ky Bu – Keselowski – Kenseth.
Green flag pit stop start on lap 276. On lap 279 Johnson who has a sizable lead goes in for his stop and one of his crew members is over the wall too soon. He’s penalized. He gets a pass through and now he’s 16th and minus 1 lap. STUPID!!!!!
By lap 288 everyone has pitted and Truex takes over the lead. Your top 5 is now Truex – Ky Bu – Stenhouse – Keselowski – Elliott.
Truex keeps putting cars down a lap. By the end of the race there are only 6 cars on the lead lap. Johnson never gets his lap back but finishes 7th. Truex wins and leads the most laps with 187. Stewart, Larson, McMurray and Buescher are the first 4 drivers to be eliminated from the Chase.
Top 15 Finishers – Truex – Ky Bu – Elliott – Keselowski – Kenseth – Logano – Johnson – Dillon – Hamlin – Gordon – Stenhouse – Kahne – Stewart – Edwards – Ku Bu
Mr Harvick won the pole under very dark cloudy skies. I did my best Snoopy dance afterwards. This was supposed to be a Saturday night race but Hurricane Matthew had his way and the race is now a day race on Sunday. The race here in May was a day race and Truex led the most laps as well as broke the record for most laps led in a single race with 392 of 400. Today’s race is 100 laps shorter than the spring race. Winds may play a role in who wins. Charlotte is a 1.5 mile quad oval. They’re doing 334 laps for 500 miles.
TRUEX – Like I said, led the most laps in the Spring race and the win. He’s brought that same car with him. Expect a Top 5 or win or a piano falling on him.
HARVICK – Despite the WTF that happened to him at Dover he’s back with a vengeance. He’s got pole for today. He finished 2nd in the Spring and last years Fall race so a Top 5 or win is not out of the question.
JOHNSON – Still not understanding how a 6 time champ and his crew can be SO unchampionship like. But any who, I expect a Top 10 from Mr Johnson.
HAMLIN – Call your local psychic.
BOWMAN – Ran this race last Fall in the #7. He ended up 32nd in his low budget team ride. He’s starting 2nd today in Dale Jr’s #88 ride. I’m sticking my neck out for a Top 10
ELLIOTT – He’s got that quiet fire. Starts 3rd today. Had a 8th place finish in May. Top 10
LOGANO – Last years Fall race winner with 227 laps led. I’m thinking Top 10
KESELOWSKI – Top 5 in spring race. Top 10
KENSETH – The stealth bomber will be there. Top 10
So that’s my story folks. And now for a public service poster….( ;
And I’m outta here……=^!^=
