Hey ho there folks. Welcome to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Sorry for my tardy appearance but winter happened. It was so windy it was raining side ways yesterday. Woke up with a dusting of snow on the roof. After all that nice 60 degree weather in November the wind kicked up and blew in winter but blew out my internet. It’s back and here I am.
So lets see here. What’s happening in the land of Left Turns?
Dale Jr is trying to get cleared to race in February. Hendrick says that the time is close at hand and NASCAR will be allowing some testing for doctors to see if he’s ready to be cleared.
Chip Gnassi is happy with his HMS equipment and motors so he re-signed for 2017.
Tony Stewart met with the media to talk future and was asked if he’d race in Cup again. Stewart reassured everyone that that won’t happen. Homestead will be his final race because he will be too busy for a return to Cup.
He also was happy about getting lots of texts and emails congratulating him and sending well wishes for his last race. However a lot of that was interrupted due to a pick pocket stealing his phone at a carnival. His girlfriend had the find my iPhone app but the thief was already gone before they could get to the parking lot. So he’ll be getting a new phone.
Tire changer Jason Pulver will be retiring after 20 years on pit road. He spent 16 years of that with RCR and even pitted for Harvick. Congrats to Jason and good luck in your next venture.
So what do you do to kill time till you can practice and qualify your race car? You go for a bike ride. This seems like a theme for these 2 drivers. Matt & Jimmie have been keeping in shape and hitting the bike rides this year together.
Tommy Balswin Racing sold it’s charter to Leavine Family Racing. Tommy said it was time to move on. LFR has a charter for the #95 they field every week. Not sure what # they will attach to the new charter for next year or who will drive it. No announcements were made about that.
We are down to the final 4 going into the Homestead race today. Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards & Jimmie Johnson are your 4. Good luck guys.
So it was the last race before the championship is to be decided. Crazy things happened to the contenders and it was here at the end of the day when the dust settled that our 4 were chosen.
Bowman had the pole and he was strong all day. It looked like he was going to get his first win too but fate had other ideas. He did however lead a race high of 194 laps. He led them to green but on the first lap Larson & Logano went for a spin.
Bowman again led them to green with Logano having smoke coming from his bent fender.
By lap 70 Johnson is 3rd and Truex who had to start in the back has cracked the top 10.
On lap 82 Larson goes for a spin when Newman hits him in the rear. Both were trying to slow down to get to pit road. Bowman again leads them back to green. Truex is penalized for passing the pace car that’s on the track while he’s on pit road.
Lap 92 top 5 is Bowman – Logano – Kenseth – Biffle – Johnson On lap 94 Logano to the lead.
On lap 120 Johnson to the lead.
Lap 132 a debris caution for debris. Johnson gets the same penalty as Truex and is now a lap down. Logano leads them to green.
Lap 157 Bowman takes the lead back. Top 5 is Bowman – Logano – Keselowski – Kenseth – Hamlin
Another caution on lap 210 for debris sets up a wreck for Johnson. On the restart Dillon’s car won’t go and Johnson drives into his rear which creates a hole in the front end. He needs a new radiator.
Bowman still leads. Ky Bu and Logano are locked in battle. Each wants that Chase spot.
With 57 to go Truex now has rear end damage after he and Newman get together. Kenseth got out of pit road first but Hamlin leads them to green because he did not pit. Kenseth takes the lead back with his fresh tires.
Harvick is complaining about water temps but maintains his top 10 position. Kenseth keeps the lead till with 2 to go McDowell has a tire go down and he hits the wall hard.
It’s GWC time. Kenseth leads them to green but when his spotter tells him he’s clear he moves down to the bottom of the track and Bowman drives into his drivers door. Kenseth goes for a spin and his Chase spot goes with him.
GWC #2 has Logano leading with Ky Bu beside him. Harvick and Larson are behind them. It’s a crazy restart but Logano keeps the lead and win.
Top 15 Finishers – Logano – Ky Bu – Larson – Harvick – Ku Bu – Bowman – Hamlin – Blaney – Elliott – Menard – McMurray – Newman – Kahne – Keselowski – Stewart
Mr Harvick is on the pole but won’t be going for the championship. Our contenders didn’t qualify well. Ky Bu 9th – Edawards 10th – Logano 13th & Johnson 14th.
We’re on a mile and a half track. The pace car…or I mean truck will be the Ford F-150 Supercrew Raptor Pickup Truck. Ty Dillon will be in the #95.
HARVICK – Not sure what happened to him last weekend but he did get a top 10. I’m feelin’ like a Bloomin’ Onion Monday is in the cards. Top 10
LOGANO – Chaser – Top 10
KY BU – Chase – Top 10
JOHNSON – Chaser – Top 10 & 7th Championship
EDWARDS – Chaser – Top 10
LARSON – Top 10
HAMLIN – Consult your local psychic.
TRUEX – Top 10
KENSETH – Top 10
BLANEY – Top 10
So that’s my story folks. Good luck in your fantasy ventures.
And I’m outta here…..=^!^=
