I know you rider gonna miss me when I’m gone. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Found a 1972 Dick’s Picks Dead show on You Tube. Pardon me if I start spinning and dancing to the music. Missing Jerry lately. Sorry but the newest Dead incarnation with John Mayer just doesn’t cut it for me. Jerry was a very huge part of the sound and vibe of that band. John can go sing vegetable pop songs.
Halloween turned out a tad bit chilly when the sun went down. I had to stop at the WaWa to get a coffee before our march around the neighborhood in search of treats. Lots of awesome displays. Not a lot of kids though. People tend to have parties in my neck of the woods these days.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
Goodyear is looking to re-up their contract with NASCAR as the official tire of NASCAR. The contract is up at the end of 2017. No obstacles seem to be in the way. Just hammering out the details. Goodyear has been with NASCAR since 1954.
Race car drivers like their records but a record for the most penalties in one season isn’t one they seek. Denny Hamlin could tie or surpass the most in one season this weekend at Texas. Newman and Gilliland each have had 11 in other seasons. Hamlin has 10 pit road penalties this season. Not far behind is Newman, Bffle, Larson, Menard, Ragan & Stenhouse with 7 each this season.
POLITICS ARE EVERY WHERE
Yup. Reed Sorenson will be driving the Trump/Pence car at Texas. Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll blow a motor and retire early. One can only hope.
MICHAEL ANNETT OFF TO DRIVE IN XFINITY SERIES IN 2017
It was announced that Annett will be joining Elliott Sadler, Justin Allgaier and William Byron at JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. Dale Jr will run a 5th car the #88 along with Kasey Kahne at select races.
Annett brings sponsor Pilot Flying J with him. They are the largest operator of travel centers and travel places in North America.
Right now Annett drives for HScott Motorsports which was a one year contract. HScott Motorsports also has Clint Bowyer in the #15 but he will be moving to SHR next year to drive Tony Stewart’s #14.
HScott Motorsports hasn’t made an announcement for what they’ll be doing next year. They may hire another driver or sit out a year. They do have 1 charter which means they could sell it or lease it out.
It was pretty quiet at the half mile paper clip shaped track. No revenge plots unfolding. Lots of drama for the 8 remaining Chase hopefuls. So Truex had the pole. He takes the lead and decides to keep it for a while.
Stenhouse brings out the first caution when he hits the wall. Both Hamlin and Edwards get pit road speeding penalties. Logano gets the lead on the restart. Truex is 2nd followed by Johnson, Larson and Allmendinger as your top 5.
Lap 46 Truex takes the lead back. On lap 74 Larson takes the lead but he soon gives it back. But Truex lets Ky Bu pass him for 1 lap just for the bonus point and then gets his lead back.
Caution for debris on lap 133. Truex comes out of the pits first. Harvick caught for speeding on pit road. It’s back to racing again. Truex allows Kenseth to lead a lap for that bonus point.
On lap 182 Kenseth takes the lead away from Truex. Johnson and Hamlin get to scraping doors and now Johnson has damage. A debris caution saves Johnson on lap 200. He can get his right front damage fixed.
Kenseth leads them to the green flag. Hamlin, Ky Bu, Gordon & Truex are your top 5.
On lap 358 there’s a caution for Edwards hitting the wall right as green flag pit stops start and now NASCAR won’t open the pits till they sort out the running order. Allmendinger is leading but soon has to pit because he’s out of fuel and is penalized for pitting before pit road is open. Johnson’s car shuts off but he manages to get started again.
29 laps later things are sorted out. Hamlin leads them to green. Only 10 cars on the lead lap after all that. NASCAR should’ve red flagged the race till they got things settled.
With 94 to go your top 5 is Hamlin, Johnson, Kenseth, McMurray & Ky Bu
At 78 to go Johnson leads. And even though Keselowski mounts a charge he runs out of laps trying to catch Johnson.
BOOM Confetti. Jimmie Johnson gets his 9th Grandfather clock.
TOP 15 FINISHERS – Johnson – Keselowski – Hamlin – kenseth – Ky Bu – Gordon – Truex – McMurray – Logano – Allmendinger – Kahne – Elliott – Biffle – Larson – Almirola
Austin Dillon has the pole for todays race. It’s a very fast 1.5 mile quad oval. Last years November race saw a lot of tire issues and Hamlin got a pit road speeding penalty. Harvick had 3 separate tire issues plus he had to hold his car in gear at the end of the race. Newman, Larson and Logano as well as a few others had tire issues. Stewart spun out early in the race. Erik Jones took Kenseth place due to his penalty for taking out Logano at Martinsville. So much excitement is in store.
HARVICK – I’m sure he’ll be bouncing back to his Bloomin’ Onion self. Top 10
KU BU – He’s due for a top 10
KESELOWSKI – Had pole last year and got a 2nd place. Top 10
TRUEX – Only a piano falling out of the sky could stop this guy. It might but right now I say Top 10
EDWARDS – Bad luck last week but I say Top 10 this week.
JOHNSON – Really good here. Top 10
LOGANO – Starts 2nd. Top 10
KENSETH – Another top guy at this track. Top 10
DILLON – Pole sitter. Possible. Well ok Top 10
LARSON – If he can keep tires on his car then Top 10
So there you have it. Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday.
And I’m outta here….=^!^=
