You don’t even know about wild Mountain honey……Steve Miller is on You Tube keeping me company. A concert from 1976. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff.
Welp, the world didn’t blow up on Friday when Trump was sworn in. You’d think the media is trying to get another civil war started. Can you hear our enemies licking their chops? Come on media. Get it together.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
There’s Monster Truck news. They go left, right, do flips and jumps too. Last Saturday night during the Monster Jam event in Tamps at the Raymond James Stadium one of my favorite monster trucks had a very bad accident. Dennis Anderson driving his Grave Digger truck decided to do a flip for his free style run. He hit the ramp wrong and crashed down on the roll cage trapping him inside. Rescue workers got him out and off to the hospital he went. His son gave an update saying that his dad is coming along fine. He’s up and recovering. He’s also giving him instructions on how to fix the truck. Always telling me what to do.
This is a big deal to me. Anderson is a local guy here in my neck of the woods. He’s from Maryland but I’ve been watching him perform with that truck long before Monster Jam was a thing. I’m glad he’s ok. I’m planning on buying Monster Jam tickets for my grandkids. Love that show.
On Monday at 6 pm NASCAR is to make an announcement about more changes to the sport I love. Right now the points for a race go as such. You get 3 points for the win. You get 1 point for leading a lap. At the end of the race the winner gets 40 points for 1st place. Then the 2nd place gets 39. It goes progressively down until last place gets 1 point.
It is rumored that NASCAR wants to divide the race into segments and award points for the running order at each point in the race. Like extra points for the leader at that segment. This is to hopefully get the drivers that hang back lurking till the end of the race to make a move to get up there and race.
And then there’s the tire thing. Teams will only get 10 sets of tires instead of 12 at the last race of the season in Homestead. Some other tracks will get 1 less set and some will get more. Also teams must start the race in the tires they qualified on. This new rule could put a monkey wrench in strategy. How much practice laps do you put on those tires? How many laps do you take to qualify? Story lines are being formed.
AJ ALLMENDINGER was testing at Charlotte Motor Speedway and it wasn’t the usual track layout he was testing on. Charlotte has a road course. So AJ was testing the 2.3 mile road course. It would seem that the fans have been bugging for a road course in the Chase. So we might just see a road course in the Chase this year. Indianapolis and Kansas also have road courses. Could be an interesting season if NASCAR pulls a track configuration switcheroo.
And then there’s TONY Stewart with his comment that he knows of a really cool dirt track in Ohio…….I’m diggin’ that one if NASCAR would say yes.
This weekend DALE JR was selling some of his cars to benefit the NATIONWIDE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. He took time out to pose for pictures with Maddie who he says beats him in Nintendo.
So if you live near Texas Motor Speedway you can tailgate and RV in the infield during the Daytona 500 for a race watching party. They’ll be firing up the 12 story high big screen TV called Big Hoss. It’s free to the public but if you plan on going they’d like you to RSVP by February 20th at www.texasmotorspeedway.com/DaytonaRSVP
North Carolina lawmakers are trying to save the sport of amateur racing. They’re seeking a permanent exemption for race cars from the EPA Anti Pollution Standards (Clean Air Act). NASCARs are already exempt because they aren’t built for street use. But cars and motors that come off the street to race that are modified for amateur racing are endangered by the EPA’s rule. This could put Saturday night dirt track racing in danger. Lots of junk car races would be eliminated. Big bummer.
With CARL EDWARDS sudden departure from the sport DANIEL SUAREZ got to step into the #19 and ride of his life with JGR. But it created a problem for the #19 team. They were readying the car for the Advanced Auto Parts Clash at Daytona under the lights on February 18th. It’s only a 75 lap race with 2 segments with a manditory pit stop but the team was well on their way with the cars preparation.
Only 2016 pole winners, past Daytona 500 winners and the 12 2016 Chase drivers are allowed to race in it. DANIEL SAUREZ hasn’t raced at the Cup level yet. He doesn’t qualify. NASCAR however decided to allow an exception for SAUREZ to drive the #19 any way. Got to make those sponsors happy you know.
ALEX BOWMAN will be in the Clash. That’s the only race he’s scheduled for. Unless Dale Jr should be pulled from the car again due to concussion symptoms. He can’t find a full time ride in Cup or Xfinity. So he’ll keep his day job in the HMS shop driving the simulator and test driving the cars.
There’s only 34 days left till the Daytona 500. Owen Wilson who is the voice of Lightning McQueen in the Cars movies will be giving the command to fire engines. Big day folks. Hope he don’t screw it up.
Today is a big day too. The Steelers will be going to the Super Bowl. Yup they are. It will be the Steelers vs GreenBay with the Steelers getting trophy #7. Jimmie Johnson got his #7 so I’m thinking it’s a gimmie for the Steelers. That’s my story folks and I’m stickin’ to it.
And I’m outta here…..=^!^=
