Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Listening to St Paul and the Broken Bones on You Tube. NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts. Dude is standing on a desk in a suit and gold shoes singing like Otis Redding. Looked him up because he’s on the list for the Mountain Jam I’m going to. Looked up Gary Clark Jr and he sounds like Jimi Hendrix came back from the dead to play with The Black Keys. Phenomenal. Can’t wait for that.
So I’ve learnt that the country is insane. What is up with that women’s march? I’m confused. I read the signs they were carrying and it looks A.D.D. – ish to me. What drugs are Madonna on? Blowing up the White House? Ban that be-otch I say.
Trump is not my president gets said all the time. In my humble opinion, if you hope for his failure you hope America fails. I find it interesting that Americans having been screaming for a leader that has a back bone, speaks freely not being afraid to say it like he sees it, being less political with the people’s wants & needs being addressed and no more empty promises. Then one comes along AND GETS elected and they boo & poo poo him. We have such fickle voters.
Lets pray for his decision making skills and hope we make it through 4 more years as the greatest country in the world.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
MORE CHANGES IN NASCAR
Drivers names won’t be on the front windshield any more. Monster Energy and car manufacturer will be there now. The driver name will be on the back windshield on all 3 premiere series.
Teams will have less practice time. This is to make things more efficient and the teams don’t feel they need that much practice time. They will however allow more practice time at Kentucky due to an extra asphalt layer and Texas in November due to a repave.
It’s official with 3 stages in our Cup races. A caution will be called after each stage. The top 10 finishers in the first 2 stages will get extra points with the winner of each stage getting 5pts. The season winner gets 15 extra points. The rest of the top 10 season get extra points too. The 150 mile qualifying races for the Daytona 500 will give extra points to the top 10 drivers. NASCAR won’t allow body panels damaged in wrecks to be replaced any more.
This has major Chase implications because cars going to the garage may not get to come back out. It will however keep the track cleaner with less cautions due to wrecked cars sloughing off parts during the race. I’m not sure I like the stages with the manditory cautions. The drivers are happy though. I guess it’s a wait & see.
PATRICK IN SPONSOR NEGOTIATIONS
Natures Bakery was signed last year and slated to sponsor 20 races in 2017. SHR is now in talks with them on how that will look. Both parties have options and working out the details at this time.
Natures Bakery is a small company with less than 500 employees. It was started by a father & Son duo, Dave & Sam Marson. They sell their products to 50 states and 20 countries.
SHR plans to keep all teams up and running full time in 2017.
LIGHTS AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
On Wednesday night the new LED lights on the back stretch were powered up. Track president Clay Campbell says he’s excited for the rest of the LED towers to go up. He can’t think of a better way to celebrate the tracks 70th anniversary.
The $5 Million project will make Martinsville the first track to have LED lights.
The first race under the lights will be a late model stock car race. The Valley Star Credit Union 300 is up first.
JEFF GORDON IS BUSY
Gordon says he’s willing to sub again if he’s needed but says that Alex Bowman is the first choice as far as he’s concerned. Gordon subbed in 8 races for Dale Jr while Bowman subbed for 10 races.
Bowman’s only race will be The Clash at Daytona. He’ll go back to his HMS day job unless he’s needed or can find a viable race job.
Speaking of Gordon driving….he’s participating in The Rolex 24 this weekend. He is in a team of 4 drivers. Max Angelelli, Jordan Taylor & Ricky Taylor along with Gordon are taking turns driving the #10 Komica Minolta Cadillac DPi-VR. As of 8 am this mourning Max was driving and in the lead.
I was on Twitter last night and saw a 1 minute video of Gordon starting up the car and driving off to practice. Not usually a fan of these cars but I have to say that video made me giddy. No carbon monoxide fumes needed.
UPDATE ON CARL EDWARDS
Newest rumor is that he’ll be running against (Dem) Claire McCaskill for that Senate seat in 2018. When asked about this Carl quoted General Douglas MacAurther,”No man is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless he be vigilant in it’s preservation.”
Matt Kenseth said he’s spoken to Carl several times now and wasn’t surprised nor did he see it coming. He knew that something was bad when all the drivers and crew chiefs were summoned for a conference Sunday night after football. This is Kenseth’s final year in his contract. He’ll be 45 this year.
So that’s what I have for this week. Newsy things are kinda slow but the Daytona 500 is only 28 days away. Woooooo Hoooooooo!!!!! I’m excited.
Hope all is well with all of you.
And I’m outta here……..=^!^=
