Searching for something clever to start out with. I got nothin’. Welcome Gabbers and others to my NASCAR Updates & Other Fast Stuff. Just found out Primus is passing my way again in July. Love Les Claypool.
The temps keep doing the crazy up and down. Hot and humid yesterday and then it’s 45 degrees and windy today. The heats off. Not turning it back on. Got to save some money some where. I got a email notice telling me my sweet potatoes are on the way. Wooooo Hoooooo!!! Summer can’t be too far behind.
John Force is still a force to be reckoned with. His win last Saturday gave him #2500. WOW!!!! Saw the video interview and he was his old self. Mouth running faster than his drag way time thanking his crew guys and sponsors all in one breath as he launched into singing the song Singin’ In The Rain as he danced off. Funny stuff. Loved seeing the light return to John. I’m hoping that Peak giving him that life time racing sponsorship gives him what he needs to get just one more championship.
So what of the land of Left Turns?
It’s Danica Patricks birthday today. So if you see her in your travels, make sure you express your best wishes.
Dale Jr will be celebrating race start 600 in his Cup career.
PENALTIES AFTER PHOENIX
Kevin Harvick did not pass post race inspection. He failed because of a track bar slider assembly not being approved. Crew chief Childers gets a 3 race suspension and a $25,000 fine. Harvick loses 10 points and SHR lose 10 owner points.
Brad Keselowski failed weight and measurements after the race. Crew chief Wolf gets a 3 race suspension and a $65,000 fine. Keselowski loses 35 points and Penske loses 35 owner points.
I find issue with both these penalties. How is it that the prerace inspection missed Harvick’s noncompliant track bar slider? With the cars going in a circle at a high rate of speed you will have centrifugal force issues that rearrange a cars suspension by the end of the race. If the car was in the perimeters at inspection then it’s in at the end in my opinion. Were we sleeping when we inspected the cars?
I’m not a Keselowski fan but this stinks in my opinion. The fact that NASCAR is not transparent about how they go about these inspections and coming up with their findings and giving a better believable explanation really pushes my belief of race fixing a bit further. Just saying.
So it was a nice sunny hot day in the 90’s for racing with Logano on the pole. He led them to the green and off they went. Very quiet stage 1 with Logano winning.
Stage 2 saw Hamlin with a tire going down but a caution saves him. Ku Bu is having battery issues for a second straight week. He would be changing batteries ever pit stop. In Stage 2 Elliott takes the lead on lap 8. Keselowski develops a vibration.
Logano develops break issues. It’s 143 degrees on the thermometer on Dale Jr’s head rest. And Elliott wins Stage #2.
Elliott leads them to the green in Stage #3. Kenseth brangs out a caution when his tire explodes. He’s in the wall and now out of the race. Ky Bu now leads.
Hamlin is saved by a caution. His tire is going down. Ku Bu gets a new battery. Logano still having break issues.
With 6 to go Ky Bu is leading and Logano has just hit the wall. His right front tire exploded. Everyone pits except Newman, Stenhouse & Truex. We are going into over time.
Newman leads them to the green. Larson tries to get up to Newman but Stenhouse is not moving out of the way. He almost loses it but hangs on.
It’s Newman for the win.
Top 15 Finishers – Newman – Larson – Ky Bu – Stenhouse – Keselowski – Harvick – Saurez – Jones – Johnson – Hamlin – Truex – Elliott – Bowyer – Dale Jr – McMurray
AUTO CLUB PREVIEW
So Kyle Larson has the pole for todays race. It’s a 2 mile D – Shaped track. Tire management will be the story of the day on this race worn surface. Left side tires take a real beating. Teams will play with air pressures trying to get that grip. Of course 4 tires will be the call at every pit stop. You most likely won’t see a 2 tire call or no pit strategy to steal a win here.
Many drivers to the back for the start of the race. Johnson, Logano, Bayne, DiBenedetto & Gaulding had no qualifying times. Ragan is in a back up car. Menard & Dale Jr changed tires. Jeffery Earnhardt new transmission. All these drivers to the rear for the start.
HARVICK – It will be a free Bloomin’ Onion Monday race. Top 10
KESELOWSKI – Top 10
HAMLIN – He should but call your local psychic.
LOGANO – Starts from the rear and there will be tire management involved. I’ll call it. Top 10
JOHNSON – The crap continues. In the past I’d say hell yeah he’ll get up there from the back but this year…Not feeling it.
STENHOUSE – Dude came out of no where for a Top 5 last week. He has a top 5 here last year at this track. Top 10
ELLIOTT – Top 10
LARSON – Has pole. On a roll. Top 10
MCMURRAY – Having a quietly nice season in his team mate Larson’s shadow. Top 10
TRUEX – Starts 4th today. Top 10
NEWMAN – Coming off a big win last week. Starts 5th today. Top 10
There you go folks. Make your fantasy picks.
And I’m outta here……=^!^=
