I don’t know about you, but I really like the summertime. Sports may take a semi-back seat, I just get the opportunity to enjoy the warmth, the length of the days, the grilling, the road trips, the pool, and festivals and events here in Northern California. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t enjoy the 105-110 degree heat or whatever and certainly not the lines, but there’s just something enjoyable – I’ve come to appreciate Summer just a little more than I have in the past.
OK, the Giants and A’s are long out of contention in MLB, but I’m having fun watching Minnesota hang with Cleveland into the end of July. To sit and watch a team that was expected to have 100 losses still in contention at the end of July is actually a pretty cool thing. I harbor no illusions, Minny more than likely will fade out in early to mid-August, but this is the stuff that Baseball is about, that surprise team showing life, so let’s sit back and enjoy the surpises as long as we can.
So which is it with the Baltimore Orioles, they won’t trade away veteran talent according to their GM or trading Zach Britton as has been widely speculated by the talking heads?
Meanwhile, what the hell is Tampa doing trading cash considerations for that burning gas can known as RP Sergio Romo? This guy was so bad (6.12 ERA in 30 appearances) that the Dodgers just let go of him and his one year three million dollar contract.
Well, this is the week that NFL talk starts to take off. I mean to say actual football talk on the field. Let’s hope that there’s little to no non-sense and just a whole lot of stuff on the field to talk about.
We don’t talk Golf here but can I say Jordan FREAKING Speith? The kid is something else and has the talent to be one of the best in the future, who by the way appears to be having a good time doing it. Congratulations young man, and may you have long success – you appear to be one of the few in sports who actually gets it.
I’m thinking that if you’re gonna troll somebody on the net, Conor McGregor isn’t gonna be the guy you want to go after, but Draymond Green (who really and desperately needs a lesson in humility) is learning that today. Telling McGregor to take that Warriors #23 jersey off because he supports Mayweather, McGregor’s comeback was the best of all-time saying it was for C. J. Watson (and wondering who Draymond Green even was).
Back onto the insanity that is Basketball, our old friend LaVar Ball is up to no good again. This time I guess he decided he didn’t like a foul call against one of his AAU kids, so he pulled his team off the court and it was registered as a forfeit against his team. I’m sure those parents who have kids who play for this team is real excited about the prospect of having this guy coach that team. Perhaps the AAU might consider suspending this guy for a bit of time to make him think about the fact that he is not bigger than AAU and Basketball ?
Speaking of the Summer, one of the things I love is a bit of jazz, so let’s start the week on a cool note. I know this has gone viral so long ago 10 years ago, but sometimes music should be continuously shared, and this at the time 7 year old kid playing the guitar like this in front of Carlos Santana is the absolute shit:
The music starts at 1:15 – 4:15.
Enjoy the start of your week and I’ll catch you tomorrow…
