I heard something that I thought I’d never hear on any national media platform – the live three hour blasting of LeBron James, and now after that others in the media as well as fans are starting to blast off on him, often-times using the term “bitch” to describe him. It’s as if the light went off regarding the real LeBron James, and apparently we have Kyrie Irving to thank for it, so let’s look at this drama from Irving’s perspective.
Irving sees that there’s no present in Cleveland for him. He won’t be able to raise his voice about his concerns and he certainly won’t be taken seriously so long as LBJ is there, particularly since he was on the trade block ALLEGEDLY already. So he correctly exercised his right to go public wanting a trade.
Irving sees James’ history. He has seen James’ manipulation of the roster as the de facto GM. He has seen the trifling “If I don’t get what I want…” type of shit, and worse yet the caving in of the Cavs ownership. He’s seen the non-stop media genuflection/bootlicking at the altar of LeBron – particularly out of ESPN. He seen the ALLEGED issue of James entourage – of which I consider the media a major part. He’s been through the drama, and he’s seen enough.
Irving also is seeing that James is doing nothing to dissuade any talk of him going to LA. James has not said a single word to the fans in Cleveland saying that this talk is bullshit or that he would prefer to stay and work things out. Irving sees that James is out the door while manipulating as much as he can in Cleveland and the media to make him out to be the good guy – the guy who brought a championship home.
Irving doesn’t like the post-LBJ landscape, and he’s using his leverage before he can get boned. Quite frankly, I don’t blame him.
He has seen what happened in Miami after LBJ left. Supposedly James waited to tell Miami of his desire to go back to Cleveland AFTER the FA period – so that left Miami in the lurch with no back-up plan that has cost them years. Irving sees that and wants no part of what Miami is currently going through.
Irving doesn’t see a future in Cleveland for himself, and rightly so. James will leave Cleveland in the lurch like usual – doing his best to squeeze as much drama as he can while screwing Cleveland at the same time. This will leave Irving alongside of James sycophants who are making money and not doing much for it. Let’s face it, without James, this is a 45 win team at best.
Irving also sees the future in a way. James is manipulating to get to LA and play with Lonzo Ball, the free agents the Lakers will get, and chase with the newest superteam. If I was Irving, I’d absolutely be insulted that my teammate wants to piss away the three years of championship chases because he wants to be part of the flavor of the day, when there’s absolutely no challenge in the East and the team can get back to the finals again?
If I was Irving and had any sort of leverage at all, I would try to get to Miami. A nice core building, Pat Riley has all the credentials and never stops trying to build, no state tax in Florida, and you don’t have to go through the minefield known as the West. You want to be the man? OK, here’s your opportunity – you can own the East.
But in the end – this is your NBA – it’s what you the fans allow. So the fact of the matter is that a lot of this shit is on you. And now its going to come full circle and we’re going to be stuck with non-stop Laker non-sense 24/7/365.
