NFL Hall of Fame weekend. I swear the disrespect shown this incoming class of 2017 is amazing. These cats (minus one) are great stories – and yet all I seem to hear about is that one (who I refuse to accept or acknowledge – if he gets in now, why doesn’t Robert Kraft?). I wrote a few days ago about how solid and strong these guys are, but I actually heard push back on all of them except Tomlinson. Some were saying that these guys didn’t have enough “All-Pro” designations – as if that popularity contest is something you need to win. Are you kidding me? I can see in years past some of the names might have been questionable, but not this year – except for one.
I know the tradition is to look forward to see who will make the cut next year and gain entry, but can we celebrate who is going in this year WHILE ITS FREAKING HAPPENING? Can we put the debate about Terrelle Owens in the Hall in 2018 to the side until we install the class of 2017? I’m not asking for much, just a few days so that this class can be honored. Good Lord…
I’m a sucker and a shill for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and yesterday I mentioned the future of the Hall of Fame, and to those who have attended you might be surprised in the changes coming. Here’s the link from NFL.com, you really should check it out – it’s one hell of a surprise. And YES, in the future I will return to Canton and check it out. I look very forward to it. And by the way Canton, it isn’t just about the HOF, you have a VERY nice town with some great food and good people.
Around the camps. Dear Miami, you can’t really be talking about bringing in Jay Cutler, can you? You can’t be serious. Stephen A. Smith is right – everybody questions the heart and attitude, drive, and desire of Jay Cutler.
Dear NFL media, yes, we got it – Tom Brady turned 40. So what? Good Lord, I think they spent more time celebrating his 40h birthday than a vast majority of what was going on in the rest of the camps. If it wasn’t for Tannehill’s injury, I think it would have been wall-to-wall Brady 40th coverage. It was obnoxious and you could tell that Brady was somewhat uncomfortable with it. But what the fuck was with the fans going all out? Do you celebrate your loved ones birthday like that? Somehow I don’t think so. Y’all embarrass yourselves.
Speaking of Tom Brady, this isn’t the first time that Giesle Bundchen has been yapping for all the media to hear and when she does yap, it puts Brady in a tough position having to go back and spend time dealing with the media fallout.
I really like this Green Bay move of Ty Montgomery to Running Back. I thought it was effective last year and now they are going to continue to try it and I think it will work. It certainly gives them many more options and makes it that much tougher to defend against.
Canadian Football. I have had the opportunity to watch Canadian Football every July and August, and while many people scoff at the game, the different rules, and the overall product, let me say to you a couple of things here:
- If you like a pure game without all the silly bells and whistles and “Look at me” stuff that goes on in the NFL, then this is your game. It is pure football. It’s respectful.
- The media is solid – no overhype, just the game on the field as it plays out.
- Football in July does not suck, and the CFL is a primer after a long off-season.
- The talent is there for one hell of a run, and they damn sure lay it all out there.
- It’s actually competitive!!!
There’s some lessons that the NFL could take from the CFL.
I hope that I will have the opportunity to check out the CFL from September to November.
Enjoy your Saturday, and hey, check out Lanz’ post about visiting New York, it’s pretty cool.
