It was refreshing to hear that going into this game it was a battle of 2 first place teams. When was the last time you heard that going into the 5th game of the season? When the game was over the Jaguars were still in first place after a fantastic defensive win, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-9. The last time the Jaguars were 3-2 was in 2010 (finished 8-8) and the last time the team was in 1st place after week 5 was in 1998 (started 4-0, week 5 was a bye week. finished 11-5 and in 1st place).
How impressive was the win against the Steelers? The 21 point win by the Jaguars was the worst defeat at Pittsburgh since December 24, 2006, when the Steelers lost to the Baltimore Ravens 31-17.
How many of you thought with Brandon Linder out that it might be a long day for the Jaguars? Come on I know there were some of us out there. Props to the offensive line for holding up throughout the game.
The Steelers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a field goal, and by halftime the Jaguars had a 7-6 lead on a Fournette 2 yard “Fly-By.” The “Fly-By” was used by CBS announcer Kevin Harlan. In the 3rd quarter Pittsburgh took a 9-7 field on another field goal and after that it was all Jaguars.
At the 6:44 mark in the 3rd quarter, Abry Jones deflected a pass by Ben Roethlisberger and Telvin Smith caught it and ran 28 yards for a pick-6, the first pick-6 in Big Ben’s career for a 13-9 Jaguar lead. Two minutes and 33 seconds later Barry Church intercepted a pass heading for Antonio Brown and ran 51 yards for a pick-6 and a 20-9 Jaguar lead. In the 4th quarter Myers hit a 47 yard field goal to increase the lead to 23-9. The icing on the cake came in the 4th quarter with 3:22 left in the game, Tashaun Gipson had his 2nd interception of the game and 1 minute and 22 seconds later Fournette ran 90 yards for a touchdown and the game was all but over, as the score increased to 30-9. By the end of the night the Jacksonville Jaguars have a one game lead over their division!!
With this win the Jaguars have already won 3 games and have 11 more to go. The team has more takeaways than they did last year (12 to 17).
Respect from the national sports media only comes with consistent winning. When this happens they will talk as if they were all-in for years.
