I’ll start this off by saying this game should never have made it to overtime!! Never!! A stupid penalty caused the Jaguars the win. Nothing more, nothing less. Don’t make any other excuses please…Okay maybe the missed 52 yard field goal with 13:06 left in the 4th quarter. But that’s really it, really that’s it.
The Jaguars started off the game as if they were the same team the destroyed the Ravens. They took the ball on the first series of the game and scored a touchdown, on a 10 yard pass from Bortles to Fournette. I don’t know about you, but how many of us thought after this touchdown that this game was going to be a piece of cake. Come on, am I the only one?? Nah, I know a bunch of ya felt this way.
But then a little dose of reality set in. 13 seconds later the Jets scored on a 75 yard touchdown run by Bilal Powell, because no one touched Powell when he stumbled to the ground. This was the longest run in Jets history.
With the game tied at 7-7, each team kicked a field goal. Then with 22 seconds left until halftime punter Lac Edwards threw a pass to safety Marcus Williams for a 31 yard gain. Luckily kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed a 45 yard field goal wide left, and the game was tied 10-10 at halftime.
The Jets took at 20-10 lead on a 69 yard run by Elijah McGuire for a touchdown and a 26 yard field goal by Catanzaro.
After Jason Myers missed a 52 yard field goal wide right the game started getting interesting. With 10:33 left in the 4th quarter and the Jets have 1st and 10 on the Jacksonville 14, it look as if the Jets were going to score one way or another, Josh McCown went back to pass, a backward pass at that, when he dropped the ball. Myles Jack recovered the ball and ran in 81 yards for the touchdown.
(Myles Jack returns fumble 81 yards for TD)
A.J. Bouye intercepts the ball with 3:22 left in the game. On 1st and 10 on the Jets 23 yard line, with 2:00 minutes to go, Bortles throws a 23 yard pass to Fournette for what looks to be a touchdown. I say looks to be a touchdown because there is a flag on the play. Yep, penalty against the Jaguars, Arrelious Benn is called for offensive holding. Gee whiz!! The Jaguars ended up settling for a field goal to tie the game.
In overtime, it went back and forth with neither team scoring. With 1:50 left in overtime, Brad Nortman punts for 45 yards to the Jacksonville 47, and returned for 7 yards to the Jacksonville 40 yard line. On the play Paul Posluszny is called for unsportmanlike conduct and a 15 yard penalty to the Jacksonville 25. 4 plays later Catanzaro kicks a 41 yard field goal to win the game.
There were positives. The Jaguars are still in first place.
18 sacks in 4 games is a new Jaguar record.
6 penalties for 47 yards.
Respect from the national sports media only comes with consistent winning. When this happens they will talk as if they were all-in for years.
