Calis Campbell waving to Cardinal fans before the game.
Before I start this blog, I want everyone to know that I am a diehard Doug Marrone fan as well as a Syracuse fan (yep that explains why), so with that being said, what the heck happened with the Jaguars last possession of the game. By trying to run the clock out, to send it to overtime, you managed to still give the Cardinal’s enough time to let them get within field goal range. The 57 yard field goal by Phil Dawson reminds me of the last game of the 2016 season against the Indianapolis Colts. In that game the Jaguars tried to control the ball to eat as much of the clock as possible but it did not work. It was 3 rushing plays and a 41 yard field goal to give the Jaguars the lead. Colts get the ball and drive it all the way down the field for a game winning touchdown. It was about ball control in the game against the Colts and it was ball control in this game against the Cardinals. Where did the running game go?? 91 yards rushing and Bortles got most of that….
Bortles carried the offense enough to get the win, and the Jaguars should have won. Heck it seems to me from past experiences Blake plays better when he is in the hurry up offense….
Doug Marrone said “he got greedy.” He must have been talking about when the Jaguars had the ball with 2:47 left in the game with the Jaguars at the Arizona 38 yards and within field goal range. That’s when Bortles threw an interception. I thought Tyrann Mathieu made a great play. Nothing wrong with that. Anyway the Cardinals had to punt so no damage was done.
My concerns where was the offense in the 1st half? More dropped passes.
The good thing is the Jaguars are still in first place going into December. It has been a long time since they are playing a meaningful game in December. By the way, it’s time to fill the stands, on the 3rd of December.
